Chapter 79 - Summer, Sunshine, and something worth cherishing

*** This was quite difficult to write. On one hand they are both teenagers, yet I had to make them mature enough to make the future relationship stable. Then I had to balance the fluffy romance and realism.

Like I said, if this is going to be the last, this has to be perfect. It can't be immediate, but also must leave a strong impression. Not to mention I don't want her to be just a show piece, she needs to play a part in the journey.

PS- did you guys plan together or something to vote exactly the number of stones needed for rank 69 ? 💀

I arrived in Florida under a veil of deliberate anonymity—a simple mask and a dark hoodie concealing my identity as I stepped off the plane with my luggage. I even got some stares at first due to my choice of clothes, but the airport security understood once they saw my passport.

I wanted to remain as low key as possible, to avoid the swirling rumors and flashing cameras that had become all too familiar. Although I knew it can't be avoided completely.

I texted Kate describing my getup, and she told me where she was waiting. It wasn't hard to find, considering her car had quite a few paparazzi surrounding it. I guess the Marvel movie gig is already public knowledge.

Yet fate, as always, had other plans.

Outside the arrivals terminal, Kate was waiting in her car. Her eyes sparkled with anticipation, and despite my efforts to keep a low profile, her smile shone bright enough to melt any disguise.

As I walked toward her, she got out, rushed forward and wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug. For a moment, I felt the warmth of her embrace overpower all the doubts and pressures of my recent life.

"Adriano, it's so good to finally see you," she whispered, her voice carrying a mix of relief and excitement. I returned her hug with equal warmth, trying to hide my smile behind the mask.

But even then, the paparazzi had been waiting just outside the terminal. Reporters, hidden behind bushes and parked cars, caught a glimpse of us together. Soon enough, snippets of conversation floated by—rumors suggesting that the rising Hollywood actress might have a hidden boyfriend, given the way she clung to me.

I raised an eyebrow as I noticed a few flashes and whispered comments. "Seems like you've got quite the reputation already, miss popular actress" I teased lightly.

Kate laughed, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. "It's nothing compared to yours. If they knew the shady looking guy I' hugging is actually the world's most expensive footballer, the whole media would go crazy." she replied, her tone playful and teasing.

The car ride from the airport to Kate's home was filled with a gentle hum of soft music and light conversation. We exchanged small comments about the Florida weather, the excitement of her hometown, and even a few jokes about how I'd almost become a "secret celebrity boyfriend" today despite my low-key efforts.

When we arrived at her luxurious home—a charming, modern style house with a neatly manicured lawn, a large pool and a well designed gazebo —Kate parked the car, and we stepped out.

I could feel the humid Florida air, and as we approached the front door, Kate's smile widened. "Welcome to my house," she said, her voice laced with warmth.

Inside, the atmosphere was relaxed yet vibrant.

The living room was cozy, adorned with family photos and soft furnishings that made the space feel lived-in and inviting. Kate's parents and her uncle were gathered in the dining area, engaged in quiet conversation. As soon as they saw me, the room lit up.

"Ah, you must be famous Adriano!" her mother Shelly Upton exclaimed, rising quickly from her seat to greet me. Her eyes were kind and inquisitive, and she reached out to gently pat my hand. "I've heard so much about you from my daughter. Welcome to our home."

I respectfully replied , " Thank you for your kind words ma'am. It's a pleasure to meet you. I can see where Kate gets her good looks from, " , which made her laugh gently. Kate told me before she used to be a state Tennis champion. Her father was an athletics director at a school.

Her father Jeff upton, a tall man with an easy smile, extended his hand as well. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I guess you are reason Kate finally saw some sense.

You are a good young man. I won't mind if you want to date my daughter," he said with a hearty laugh that filled the room with a sense of good humor.

Kate's uncle Fred Upton, a jovial fellow with a booming voice, clapped me on the back. "Welcome, welcome! You're now part of the family, whether you like it or not," he joked, drawing laughter from everyone.

Unlike his calm demeanor, her uncle was a USA representative for Michigan fro Republican party. They were a well off family ever since her great grandfather.

Kate looked slightly embarrassed but happy as her parents and uncle began peppering us with questions about our meeting and friendship.

"So, Kate, how did you meet him?" her mother asked, a note of gentle curiosity in her voice.

Kate hesitated for a moment, glancing at me before answering. "We met on the plane, on my trip to Hawaii. At first we didn't talk much, after I got scared during a turbulence, I grabbed Adriano's arm, and after that we started talking." she said softly.

Her father interjected, " you were holding onto him like you never wanted to let go, eh?" His eyes twinkled with humor as he teased.

Kate blushed, "Dad, come on!" she replied, though her smile betrayed that she was pleased with the attention.

Her uncle laughed and added, " And how was it for you Adriano? I hope my niece didn't sprain your arm, she's got a strong grip ever since she started horse riding."

I laughed and replied, " That's quite interesting, but no, she didn't. I have had worse tackles remember?"

Kate diverted the topic , " We should totally go and have a ride at the ranch. I want you to meet Roanie, my beautiful girl. She is the sweetest. "

I chuckled, " hope she doesn't kick me or throw me off ," earning a playful punch from her.

Once we were all seated at the dinner table—a long, polished wood table set with fine china and glistening silverware—the conversation took on a more familial tone. Between courses of delicious home-cooked food, Kate's parents inquired about my life and career.

"Adriano," her mother began between sips of wine, "tell us, what is it like playing football at such a high level? We know you've achieved so much at such a young age."

I smiled softly. "It's been an incredible journey, full of challenges and rewards. Every match, every goal is just the paving the way for the grand victory. But the media and the pressure sometimes get to you."

Her father nodded, leaning back in his chair. "And what about your plans for the future? We hear there's a lot of transfer drama these days."

I paused briefly, choosing my words with care. "There are many offers, but we are hashing out the final details. It should be announced after my vacation here.

Right now, my focus is on continuing to grow as a player and embracing new challenges. I want to play where I can truly show my talent and win trophies, while having a supportive team. "

Kate's uncle chuckled, "Sounds like you're one of those passionate players who isn't afraid of a little risk. That's good. But maybe give us a little hint?" He asked in a conspiratory tone.

Kate's dad also learned forward, " Although I don't watch European football much, I watched the world cup. I saw you demolish our national team haha. Now I know why Kate decided to watch the game and cheered when you scored!"

Kate hid her face, " I'm socially dead."

I chuckled and patted her head, " It's alright. That's kinda cute. Now I can say I have another celebrity fan," which made her groan again.

Kate's mother intervened," You boys stop bullying my daughter. Isn't it normal to admire a good player? " She paused then added with a smirk, " Specially if it's a handsome player who she has a crush on."

We laughed together and Kate just gave up and slumped.

The conversation shifted from my career to lighter topics—fun stories from my time in Portugal and Spain, the quirks of American food, and even some playful teasing about how I managed to keep my composure despite the intense media circus.

Kate's father, ever the gentle interrogator, asked in a warm, joking manner, "So, Adriano, any plans for settling down in near future? Or are you too busy scoring goals to find love?"

I grinned, "I think there's always time for both. Football is my first love, but who knows? Life might have room for something—or someone special in future." Kate's eyes met mine for just a brief moment, then she looked away with a shy smile.

Dinner progressed with laughter and lively conversation. The atmosphere was relaxed yet filled with a subtle tension of expectation—Kate's parents were clearly curious about whether this meeting was the start of something more serious between Kate and me.

But every question was met with gentle humor and polite deflection. Kate, though shy at times, made it clear that she valued our friendship and was open to seeing where things might lead, without any pressure.

After dinner, we all moved to the living room for dessert—a spread of fresh fruits, pastries, and iced tea served in the warm glow of a chandelier. We talked about some of my future plans including the charities I wished to found. Kate's father and uncle both were interested and told me to reach out if I needed any support.

Kate's mother leaned in to me and said softly, "You have a very kind heart, Adriano. Just remember, you're always welcome here, and you'd better take good care of my daughter."

I laughed lightly, "I'll do my best, ma'am. I promise to treat her with the utmost care. Although we are just couple of friends getting to know each other."

Her father, with a playful wink, added, "I already approve of you. Compared to the boys these days, you were raised right. As long as you stay the way you are now, you've got our blessing."

The evening ended on a cheerful note . I went to sleep that night with a mix of warmth and excitement. The family's genuine hospitality and humor had touched me deeply, and I could sense that Kate was just as relieved to have her closest people meet with me and hit it off. I can understand her feelings, but I wanted to take the time to truly get to know her.

The morning after my arrival in Florida, Kate and I set out together to explore the sunny State. Although she warned me about not going to swim in the lakes, their swamp puppies would love some some Portuguese cuisine.

The day began with a leisurely drive along a coastal highway, where the warm breeze played with our hair and the rhythmic sound of waves crashing on distant shores provided a soothing counterpoint to our conversation.

Kate sat in the passenger seat, her eyes bright with excitement as she pointed out colorful murals and quaint storefronts along the way. "This area has such a creative vibe," she said. "Look at that art district—we'll have to stop there." Her enthusiasm was contagious, and I found myself smiling at how genuinely happy she looked in her element.

We eventually pulled over in a vibrant art district, where every wall was adorned with bold, imaginative paintings and graffiti that told stories of the local culture. Street performers mingled with artists selling their creations, and the air was alive with music and chatter.

At one point, we even stopped to watch an impromptu acoustic performance by a local guitarist, the soulful melody perfectly capturing the relaxed spirit of the neighborhood.

Although soon, some people recognized Kate and started crowding us, so had to leave sneakily. We laughed as we drove away while joking we should have brought some security with us. Kate being the usual American, just told me get a license and a gun , while I chuckled nervously after hearing her dad has a collection of them.

After a while, we resumed our journey, this time heading toward a bustling street market. The market was a vibrant mix of colors: vendors sold fresh produce, handmade crafts, and an assortment of local delicacies. The aroma of sizzling street food mingled with the scent of tropical fruits, and lively chatter filled the air. It almost felt like Spain somehow.

As we sat on a weathered bench beneath a canopy of draping vines, Kate turned to me with a thoughtful expression. "Adriano," she began softly, "what are you really looking for in this new chapter of your life? Is it just football, or are you open to… other things?"

I paused, taking a deep breath as I considered her question. The garden's tranquility seemed to invite honesty, and I met her gaze with sincerity.

"I think I'm looking for balance," I said quietly. "Football has always been my passion—it's the fire that drives me—but I've realized there's so much more out there. I want to experience life fully, to enjoy every moment beyond the pitch. I'm open to new experiences, new connections… maybe even finding someone who shares my energy and passion.

But I'm not looking for a casual fling. I want something real, something lasting. I may be young, but my past relationships have taught me the value of stability and genuine connection."

Kate's eyes sparkled as she listened, her smile gentle and encouraging. "I believe that too," she said, her voice warm. "There's something magical about finding someone who truly understands you—not just your successes, but your struggles and dreams as well.

It's like discovering a partner who can walk beside you through every victory and every loss."

I smiled at her words, feeling a sense of kinship that went beyond mere attraction. "Exactly," I replied. "Sometimes, it's easy to get caught up in the adrenaline of success, in the roaring crowds and flashing cameras.

But what truly matters is the quiet moments—those shared joy and sorrow, the sincere conversations, the feeling of having someone who truly gets you."

Our conversation flowed naturally, punctuated by comfortable silences as we both savored the beauty of our surroundings. The garden's vibrant colors and gentle sounds created an intimate atmosphere, and I felt as though I could speak openly with Kate about everything.

She was definitely different from what I imagined at our first meeting. That was a nice surprise. Although my rational mind was hesitant, my hear wanted to explore whatever this was .

Her smile was radiant as she squeezed my hand ."To be honest, I wasn't like this before I met you. I wqs into having fun, going to partys and living with excitement. The people around me didn't help either, as they further encouraged me saying this how to live life.

But when I left my modeling days behind, I finally began to understand what truly matters. I've learned that success isn't just measured by fame or fortune—it's about authenticity, connection, and sometimes, taking a leap of faith."

Our conversation grew more intimate as we talked about our dreams for the future. Kate confided, "Sometimes, I feel like I'm caught between two worlds. The glitz of showbiz and the reality of everyday life. I've seen people disappear when the lights went out, and I've learned to value what's real. I want to build something lasting—not just for a moment, but for a lifetime."

I listened intently, appreciating her vulnerability. "I know exactly what you mean," I said.

"Football has been my life for so long, but I've come to realize that it's just one part of who I am.

I want to create balance—a life where my passion for the game is complemented by meaningful relationships, new experiences, and moments of genuine happiness. I'm not just chasing goals on the field; I'm chasing a happy and peaceful life."

Kate's gaze softened, and she offered a quiet laugh. "I suppose that means we're both in search of something deeper than just fleeting success. I want to have fun in my youth, but I also want to wake up one day with my loved one and feel secure, loved, and understood. That's not worth giving up for momentary fun."

The afternoon sun began its slow descent as we drove to a scenic overlook where the ocean met the sky. The view was breathtaking—waves gently lapping at a sandy shore, the horizon painted in shades of orange and red.

We parked our car and sat on a bench overlooking the water. The conversation shifted to lighter topics.

"I remember when I first came to Florida as a kid," Kate said softly, her eyes reflecting the sunset. "Everything felt so new and full of promise. It was like the state itself was a fresh start."

I nodded, gazing out at the endless sea. " I can relate a little. When I moved to Spain with hopes of a new beginning, I kinda felt the same. But that didn't last long.

There was a moment of silence as we both took in the beauty around us. Then, with a playful glint in her eyes, Kate whispered, "I hope you know, I've been waiting for this day ever since you accepted my invite.

It feels like everything is falling into place. Although I love acting and it's my dream, it can get tiring after a long day. But with you, I feel just right somehow. I like your company, and how you say just the right things. " She looked away shyly, perhaps thinking she was too forward.

I smiled, feeling a warmth that wasn't just from the setting sun. "Sometimes, the universe surprises you with exactly what you need, even when you least expect it. I'm ready for these new adventures, Kate—whether it's exploring hidden gems in Florida or sharing a quiet moment with someone who truly cares."

Kate smiled softly, and leaned on my shoulder with a hum, enjoying the warmth, and for a few minutes, we sat in silence, letting the beauty of the moment speak for itself. It was a simple action, but it carried a promise—a spark of something that might grow into a deeper bond if given the chance.

As the day slowly turned into dusk, we returned to the car and drove to a quiet beachfront park. The sky had transformed into a tapestry of vibrant colors—deep purples, fiery oranges, and soft pinks merging together in a spectacular display.

We found a spot on the soft sand and sat down, the cool evening breeze providing a gentle contrast to the warmth of the day.

There, with the sound of gentle waves and the soft hum of distant conversations, we talked about our dreams and our past.

Kate mused to herself, "Sometimes I feel like my life has been a series of auditions—fleeting moments that never really stick. I want something more lasting, something that feels like home."

I listened, the sincerity in her voice resonating with my own experiences. "I understand that completely," I replied. "For me, football has been my life—a passion that's always been there. But even I know that without balance, even the brightest victories can feel hollow. "

Kate broke the silence with a soft, playful tone. "Adriano, if I had a dollar for every time someone told me to just focus on my career, I'd probably be a millionaire by now.

But sometimes, I think it's those distractions that make life interesting. Maybe… maybe we shouldn't rush to define everything right away. Just enjoy the ride, right?"

I nodded in agreement. "Enjoy the ride—yes. And who knows? Perhaps along the way, we'll find something that makes us truly happy, something that isn't just about football or fame."

Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath. "I'd like that," she said softly. "I'd like to see where this ride takes us."

Returning to her home later that evening, everyone gathered for dinner. This time, the setting was more relaxed—a casual BBQ at the house, with her parents and uncle seated around a large dining table in the backyard.

Lanterns hung from the trees, casting a warm glow over the gathering, and the air was filled with the aroma of grilled seafood and fresh vegetables.

Kate's mother took her away to help her prepare the food while we sipped on some cold beer and talked about sports and life.

"Adriano, how did you get started in football?" her father asked with a twinkle in his eye.

I replied, "I grew up in a Porto in Portugal, dreaming of bigger stages. Every match, every goal, was a step toward that dream. But when I suffered an injury, it wqs almost over, we evn had to move to a rundown house to afford my medical fees.

But I never gave up, and it paid off it seems. "

Her uncle, added, "It's rare to see someone so grounded despite all the success. You seem like a man with both passion and heart."

I chuckled and said," Thanks for your kind words. It was a difficult journey, but I managed somehow. Now I want to challenge myself at the next level."

Meanwhile, Kate and her mother walked into the kitchen side by side. Her mother asked her gently once they were inside, "So honey, tell me about your day with Adriano. How was it?"

Kate, still glowing from the day's adventures, replied, "It was amazing. We went around, saw some beautiful places, and just enjoyed the whole journey together."

Her mother, curious but gentle, asked, "Do you think there could be something more? I mean, sometimes it seems like you two share a special connection. Although I feel some distance from Adriano sometimes."

Kate blushed and hesitated for a moment before saying, "We're just getting to know each other. Right now, it's about friendship and fun. We're taking it one step at a time." She then added, " His past experiences have changed him . He doesn't want to jump into anything immediately I think."

She laughed, "Well, I approve this guy if you want to date him. He seems like a fine young man, and I can see he cares for you. "

She smiled and hugged her . "I just want you to be happy, dear. And if he makes you happy, then that's all that matters."

Kate blushed and replied, " Mom, we are not that close....yet."

Her mother teased her, " Oh? Then perhaps we should let him meet your Aunt Christina's daughter Alex ? She would love to fight with over him."

Kate just gave up and slumped, " Alright, I like him! And I will ask him about our relationship after we ge to know each other more. Just don't poke him too much about this, I want him to accept me on his own without any pressure."

The dinner conversation was lively and humorous. Kate's parents asked about my experiences, my ambitions, and even made lighthearted jokes about the challenges of international travel. I could feel the warmth of their hospitality, and it made the prospect of a future together feel a little less daunting.

After dinner, as the evening wore on and laughter filled the room, Kate and I found a quiet moment on the back porch. The air was cool and the stars shone brightly overhead.

"I really enjoyed today, Adriano" she whispered, leaning close so that only I could hear. "I feel like I learned so much about you, not just the footballer, but the person behind the star player. And I like this version of you."

I smiled softly. "I enjoyed it too, Kate. Today was a nice change of pace. I think sometimes the best moments are the simplest ones. I'm glad I spent it with you."

She leaned forward and gave soft peck on my cheek that lingered a while. Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, the conversation turned from playful banter to something more heartfelt, a promise of future possibilities that neither of us had yet fully defined.

** When you are better than someone, their first instinct is to hate . - Virtuosso

Some people really lack shame . I would honestly not rant as much here if I was stealing someone else's hard work and posting, then Begging for money here, cz I have already lost all dignity 😂😂

So in chapter 144 of his book, this dude took a jab at me, trying to insult but fail 💀 you already know which story it is cz most of you guys read it too , hell even I did. I ain't giving free advertisements !

Previously this guy sent his dogs who came and made trouble here( check the mutual activities and all their comments at that time) who complained about the story being fully ai , chinese fic copy, and romance when this book started getting popular xD.

While that guy was basically living on these things, yet they never complained in his book about ai, or chinese fic, and even rated highly ? Isn't that super suspicious!

It's not like those mindless trolls can think on their own, someone obviously targetted this book.

Even a baby can see the pattern kiddo, but I don't care about what idiots say or do anymore. I don't make a living here so I can choose to quit or continue.

If go patreon route , atleast it'll be my own work. But you, you'll probably starve if you quit , and I don't wish ill for anybody in real life, despite my coarse words sometimes.

Atleast I write my own thing and don't lie to the readers.

Since he wrote shit about me , I just dropped some hard facts lol. I know he's gonna read this. People can find out the truth for themselves or be stupid and stay in bliss, upto them.

I am not perfect, but atleast I'm honest and actually gave a shit about people's opinions and tried to improve myself.

Honestly, I'm not even putting too much effort , just writing in my free time. Yet a so called great author had to read my shitty story and remark badly about shitty ol me in his own book, cz he's insecure despite claiming he can take criticism?

Isn't that a bloody syphilitic cumshot to the face ?😂😂😂

btw, I have 4 books with more than million views despite quitting halfway, with more powerstones without begging for it every chapter, and all of them my own work, not piggybacking on others . Let that sink in before you insult me💀

Peace out ! ***
