Olivia's scream had barely escaped her lips when strong arms caught her mid-fall. Her breath rushed out of her lungs as she crashed into a warm chest, her face buried against his steady heartbeat.
She gasped.
'Lucian.' Her eyes landed on his face.
He held her tightly, his grip steady despite the sudden weight in his arms. The branches above them rustled gently; he had leapt down from the tree.
"You really like falling into trouble, don't you?" Lucian said, his voice calm, but there was a flicker of concern in his eyes.
Olivia's heart slammed against her chest. She opened her mouth to speak, but only managed a breathless, "You… you caught me."
"Of course," he said. "Again."
Lucian gently set her down, his hand lingering a second too long on her waist before stepping back. Olivia coughed, trying to hide the furious blush creeping up her neck.
She didn't miss the way his eyes lingered on her a moment longer than necessary before looking away.
