Lucas staggered slightly as he fully returned to himself, blinking as if reorienting, before his lips twisted into a smirk. "Well, at least I know whose side Manic is on."
Ava rolled her eyes, trying to ignore the way her body still throbbed with need.
"How's Kade?" she asked, her voice softer now, genuine concern slipping through.
Lucas exhaled, running a hand through his already messy hair. "He'll live." His gaze softened as he took a step toward her. "For now."
"Come to me, Ava," he murmured.
"I hate you."
Lucas smirked, "I know."
And then he pulled her close, his arms locking around her.
"I'm dumb," Lucas murmured against her temple. "I made all the wrong decisions today. This past week has been terrifying for me. I wasn't thinking right."
"Ahhh…" she moaned softly, gripping onto his shirt tighter.
Lucas kissed her, to ease her a bit.
Ava's world tilted, her fingers slipping into his shirt and digging into his skin.
She shouldn't want this.
