Ayla got up, making space for the senior who took her place, and could see that everyone seemed to receive an understanding. Which was that he did not want her in that way, and the senior was saving him.
She wanted to defend herself, but no one would believe her. Oh well.........
The senior that had taken her place was breathtaking, and now seated at a different place, she stole glances; they looked good together.
Ayla took a different seat,
Her phone rang, and she saw Derrick on it. Why was he calling her? Now, of all times? Should she just ignore him?
Her mind raced; maybe something had happened, and he had an emergency,
She answered it hesitantly.
"Hello."
"You bitch."
Well, there goes the emergency theory out the window.
Ayla headed outside, not wanting anyone to hear this conversation,
"What?"
"How dare you cheat on me?"
Ayla reached outside, and she felt her temper rise swiftly.
"First of all, I didn't cheat on you. I only got with Xavier after our break, and you were the one who cheated and dumped me. I don't know what more you want from me."
Derrick sneered in rage, "Now that you have another victim, you act differently. This Ayla is not the real you. He does not want you for you, he wants something."
Her heart hurt; who knew that his words would still pain her after all this time. When would it get better?
"I can't believe you. Don't you care about how you hurt me, Derrick?"
She inhaled, waiting for his answer, hoping......
"No, you stupi...…"
Her phone was snatched. She looked up to find Xavier standing there, and Ayla got a fright. How long had he been standing there for? Listening to he private conversation.
"You call her again, and I will make sure you don't see the light of day."
He hung up and handed her back her phone.
Before she could say anything, he walked away, and Ayla was left there, standing alone and reeling.
How humiliating, saved by her boss again. He knew it was Derrick because he was listening in on her conversation.
Ayla took some deep breaths and headed back inside. She looked around but couldn't find him.
Ayla went to her friends, and they welcomed her back,
"Your jackets." She remembered.
"Are you that tired?" Carrie asked.
"No, why?"
"They are over there, and thank you." Antonella beamed back.
She felt lost. "Alright."
"We see what you did there." This time, it was Shelly.
"Huh?"
"Xavier brought them to us." Carrie giggled.
"He did?" Ayla was shocked.
"Yes, we thought you knew," Casandra added.
She just smiled. This was great, now she had turned the CEO into a butler just lovely.
The night felt too long. Ayla made sure to avoid Xavier with everything that she had. She made sure to be with a friend at all times.
That was not needed, as Xavier was not keeping an eye out for her. After some time, Ayla felt as if she could breathe.
Yet Derrick's call had marred her evening, she was now hung up on him. The bastard had won.
At least he too was having a horrible evening; that is why he had called her raging. The great part was that Xavier had told him off.
She smiled; his evening would be double ruined as Xavier had gotten under his skin. She knew Derrick well.
She shook her head, not really. What did she know about Derrick that was true? He had played her so well.
Ayla wondered if she should go to Xavier and explain to him that it was not planned. That Derrick had called her out of the blue.
No, she should tell him to stay out of her private life; he did not need to meddle into it. She was an adult and could take care of her own business. No, that could come off extremely rude, and she would forget keeping her job.
Should she apologize? No, he had been the one to follow her outside. If she did that, he would think that it was okay for him to cross such boundaries.
She sighed; this was not in her cards for the evening. How had she, having fun watching her friends dance, turned into this?
Ayla snapped out of her thoughts and looked around. She found Xavier's eyes, and hers widened.
She just nodded and looked away, his gaze was too intense for her to hold. Ayla looked to see if anyone had noticed, but no one had.
The trip finished, and Ayla filled Sammy in on everything that had happened during the trip.
"I love your boss, He sounds like the sexiest man alive."
"He could be."
"You like him, don't you?"
"No, Sammy, I truly mean it. he is very handsome and he has everything."
"He wants you," Sammy replied.
"No, it's something else."
"I wonder how long it will take for you to realise that he wants you. Derrick is such a dick, should fuck off."
She laughed, "I knew you would be in support of kicking him to the curb."
"I also want in, give me his number so that I can cuss him out too; I need to have another go at him."
She laughed, "Not a chance. I'm leaving him in the past."
"And hello, Xavier."
"No, hello to workaholic Ayla."
"Doesn't sound as fun as mine."
"Well, I prefer mine Sammy."
Now, back at the office, everything was back to normal.
