Several hours earlier...
"Dad!"
The scene was chaos. Dust and smoke choked the air. A young boy, no older than twelve, knelt beside the wreckage, his small hands frantically digging through the rubble.
"Why? Why? Why?!" His voice cracked, tears streaming down his face. His jet-black hair hung messily over his eyes, and his clothes were torn from the collapse.
Around him, the world spun in a blur. Critically wounded civilians, children crying, and Chaos Agency members moving around, evacuating survivors into helicopters.
Everything blurred together, screams, smoke, the metallic scent of blood. The world spun too fast, too loud, too much. He barely registered the weight of a firm hand settling on his shoulder.
"Kid, we need to get going."
The man behind him stood at an imposing 7 feet tall, bald with a smooth scalp that reflected the sun. His eyes were sharp, his expression calm but intense. His black combat boots thudded softly against the wreckage, and his black leather uniform added a weight to his presence that seemed to demand attention.
"Dad." The boy's voice cracked again as he looked at his father's crushed form beneath the rubble. "If the Chaos Agency had gotten here sooner… maybe this wouldn't have happened." The boys shoulders sagged in despair. "But I can't leave him here. I can't just-"
"I know," the man said softly, cutting him off. "But we can't stay here forever. You need to come with me."
With a gentle but firm grip, the burly man scooped Caleb into his arms, lifting him away from the tragedy, leaving the boy's cries to echo in the destruction.
The pair would eventually reach a rescue helicopter and the burly man would place the boy in a seat and sit directly Infront of him.
His expression would change a bit as if contemplating what to say until it rested on a saddened one. "What's your name kid?"
The boy wouldn't respond for a few seconds, tears still rolling down his face. "M-my name is Caleb."
"Well my name is Cyrus and do you have anyone else that can take care of you?" Caleb rubbed his eyes, wiping away the tears before speaking. "I have a close family friend that's like a brother to me... But I don't even know if he's alive."
"What's their name? I'll make sure to check back with the chaos agency to see if we've evacuated someone with their name."
"His name is Kian."
----------------------------------------------------
Present time
"So your telling me that the captain told you to observe this guy and to stop the evacuation team from picking him up." Cyrus would say as he looked at a big screen showing Kians battle with the flying abomination.
Sam would keep clicking away at her computer as she'd look up once or twice. "Pretty much, it's a little crazy but I understand why. The only other creature to have abilities like that showed up all the way back when the rifts showed up."
"Yeah but still, this kid looks like about your age and you aren't even 18 yet!" Cyrus growled as he tapped his boots against the metal floor. "So what if he's in a contract with that thing? That doesn't mean we get to decide whether he lives or dies!"
Cyrus let's out a sigh as he calms down. "I will say though, this Kian kid is impressive. He's still incredibly weak but with that ability and his mind. I have no doubts that he'll become an incredibly strong individual in the future."
"If he gets to live that long." Cyrus would glare at an opening door as the captain would walk inside. "Oh Cyrus, what a pleasure to see you! What brings you here?" The captain would offer a handshake only for Cyrus to ignore it.
"You know exactly why I'm here. I know this kid might be a dangerous individual but that doesn't give you the right to decide whether he live or dies. You've seen the footage, he obviously doesn't know what's happening either."
The captain would keep a calm composure and would simply point at the big screen. "I'm not trying to kill him. I'm simply evaluating him and deciding whether or not he'd be a good fit for the Chaos agency and from what I'm currently seeing." A small smile would come across the captains face.
"He'd be a perfect fit."
---------------------------------------------------
In the heart of Felgardis
Kian was currently staring down the no longer winged abomination while holding his right arm while it was healing from the fall. 'Me and this thing are about equal in both strength and speed. I'll have to use my new ability if I want to win this.'
"Hey, y'know what? I never gave you a name." A grin spread across his face, wicked and taunting. "How about… Vermin?"
The monster got extremely angry as it's teeth opened. "Quiet worm! I was made perfect by the Golden sovereign! I am an Aurelius!" It's voice sounded squeaky and incredibly annoying. Like a spoilt brat.
"Man, you were way scarier before you opened your mouth. Now you just sound like a brat." Kian would speak with an annoying smirk on his face
His right arm was finally done with healing as it snapped back into place after being broken by the fall. "About time! I was getting bored, but hey, I'll make sure this wraps up quick for you. Can't let someone as weak as you keep me down for long, right?"
Kian would yell as he got into a running stance and
Boom!
"Guess you aren't the only one here faster than sound either!" He'd land a punch directly into the guy of the Aurelius after catching it off guard.
The punch sent the monster flying back . It skid across the ground before finally digging it's claws into the floor, slowing it down until it stopped.
It growled, a golden substance spilling from it's mouth. "Oh did I make you bleed? Well there's plenty more where that came from!" Kian charged at the monster with the monster sprinting towards him as well.
Before the monster could get close. Kian skidded to a stop causing a large cloud of dust to block the monsters vision. The monster turned its head in every direction trying to figure out where Kian was but... "Behind you!"
Kian exploded forward, swinging a brutal right hook. It connected causing a few of the monsters sharp teeth to get knocked out. As the monster tried to recover, Kian slammed his fist into the earth, causing a jagged spike of stone to burst upward. It pierced through the Aurelius's gut with a sickening crack, its body jerking violently as the rock lodged deep into its flesh.
The monster screeched but wasn't done yet. In response it grabbed Kians side and ripped out a large chunk of flesh. "Graaahhh!" Kian screamed but he wasn't done yet. In response Kian threw an uppercut straight into the monsters triangular jaw. Breaking off the stone piercing it.
The punch threw the monster into the air but before it could get anywhere Kian raised the ground around it to trap it and continued pummeling it with a barrage of full powered punches. The monster was screeching and tried to escape but couldn't due to being trapped.
"Bet you wish you had those damn wings right about now?!" Kian continued throwing punch after punch after punch. So much so that the monsters already fucked up face was even more fucked up.
Squelch
Eventually Kians punches slowed down until he was eventually just slapping it. "Hey are you okay." He asked mocking it. The monster was still breathing although it was incredibly hard due to how much it's face had been punched in.
"Insignificant worm," the Aurelius rasped, a sickly gurgle in its voice. "You think you've won? The Golden Sovereign is watching… and he never forgets." Its milky, half-crushed eyes weren't even focused on Kian anymore. It wasn't speaking to him. It was speaking to something else.
Before Kian could speak, the Aurelius seized up, convulsing in violent spasms. Its skin boiled, splitting open like overripe fruit, chunks of flesh sliding off the bone in steaming globs.
"What the-" His words caught in his throat as the creature collapsed into a steaming, pulsating mass of flesh, its eyes floating lifelessly on top.Kian had to try to not throw up his lunch. "I think I lost my appetite. Guh I guess I should try this then."
Kian retracted the casing around the flesh mountain and place his hand on it. He could barely look at it as the mound of flesh turned into a red liquid and swirled into his palm.
The strength boost was like no others. The strength boost he gained by absorbing the scourge tier monsters felt insignificant compared to this. 'All this strength gain is cool and all but... Who the hell is the Golden sovereign? Whoever or whatever it was, that monster had spoken of it with devotion, like a fanatic worshiping a god. And gods had a way of noticing when their followers disappeared.'
Kian felt a wave of unease come over him. "Can this day get any worse."
---------------------------------------------------
It had been a few hours since Caleb arrived at Amita. "The city of hope" but Caleb felt no hope. He was as hopeless as one could be. He wanted his dad he wanted Kian.
That man, Cyrus had brought him here. Wherever here was. In all honesty it looked like a cell. The only thing weird was that everything was very high tech. Glowing blue line were on every wall seeming to have a strange liquid substance.
'The world was spinning, just like it was all the way back when mom died. Why does this keep happening. Why does everyone I touch die!' He sat on the bed sulking. His eyes turning red from how much he'd been crying.
But before he could continue feeling sorry for himself the man from earlier barged into the room.
"Hey kid, how are you doing." Cyrus came in, having to bend over a little bit to fit through the door. Caleb was unresponsive, only giving a slight nod.
Cyrus would look in with a sad expression, tightening his lips before speaking. "Well I have to bring you to speak with the captain of the Chaos agencies combat division."
"What does he need me for?" 'Calebs tired expression twisting with confusion. "Questions maybe, I'm not too sure myself." Cyrus responded as he motioned for Caleb to follow him.
While walking through the hallway of the building, Caleb caught a glimpse of Amita. Tall skyscrapers filled the sky, with long elevators that lined each of them. Cars and trains flew freely through the sky having to occasionally stop at a floating traffic light.
Delivery drones carried packages through the sky. Some people could be seen wearing hovering boots as they flew across the street.
Caleb looked out of the window in awe. He knew Felgardis was a relatively poor city compared to others but this is crazy. He felt out of place.
"Hey we're finally here ." Cyrus spoke as he stopped at a large metal door with a keycard in his right hand. "Are you ready?" He asked concerned.
With a gulp, Caleb would nod his head.
------------------------------------------------
'Huh. He actually won. Not bad, but still reckless… He doesn't even realize what he is yet. But he will. Soon.' He looked at the footage in front of him with a calm look on his face.
"Sam, send in Al to pick him up." At this Sam would do a double take from her spot on a chair behind him. "Wait are you serious, look I have nothing against Albert but the dudes a nut job."
"I've never heard you speak like that before. It's refreshing compared to your usual laziness." The captain would say with a small smile on his face. "Ugh, fine I'll send him in, but don't blame me if he fills that dudes head with a bunch of nonsense about the earth being flat." She would dial a number on a phone on her desk as she put it against her ear.
The captain would let out a slight chuckle before hearing the large metal door behind them open up. "Umm hi are you the captain." Caleb would say nervously.
"Yes that would be me, and you must be Caleb." The captain would say with a small smile. Caleb would simply nod while
looking towards the front of the room and spotting the footage.
"Wait what, Kians alive?" Caleb would say with his voice cracking. The captain would nod his head as he responded. "Yes he's alive, that's why we're sending an evacuation team to his location as quickly as possible.
Cyrus would glare at the captain. 'Bastard, he's making himself look good, he was the one who cancelled the original evacuation helicopter in the first place.'' If looks could kill the captain would be long dead. His fists clenched. He knew the Captain's decisions were based on cold calculations, but it never sat right with him when lives were used like pawns.
'Although...' Cyrus would think as he looked towards Caleb.
He was crying as a happy expression spread across his face. 'Kians alive... He's alive. I thought that I lost everyone.' He'd look up at the captain as a big grin spread across his face. "T-thank you." He'd say while sniffling, trying to wipe the tears away. "Your welcome." The captain would say as he ruffled up Calebs hair.
A big smile spread across the captains face as he spoke.
"I'd like to personally welcome you to Amita, the city of hope."
