Renjiro rubbed his forehead, a low groan rumbling in his chest. He felt buried under a heap of jobs—four quests, all undone, staring him down like angry shadows.
First, he had to clear out the kobolds in the Ash Mountains, grab their gold mine, and set up a small camp to unlock a new elf fighter called an Ancient Treant. Next, he needed to crush the ogre tribe under the Ogre tribe leader, and take over the whole Forest to get a new elf building called a Elder Tree Of Wisdom.
Then, he had to start the Elf Kingdom in one month for a chance at some gear. And now, he had to scrape together five million gold coins to make the Eternal Tree stronger—or it would sleep forever, and he'd lose a rank.
'Four big hills to climb,' he thought, 'and I've barely started walking.'
He turned to the Eternal Tree, its old, twisted face watching him with hope. The bark looked rough and gray, like wrinkled skin, and its branches swayed slow in the soft wind.
