I couldn't go through with the wedding, not when every fiber of my being was screaming his name. But how the hell could I make him believe me now? After everything I'd put him through, after every promise I'd broken, how could I possibly convince him I meant it this time?
I pulled out my phone and unlocked the screen, the glow illuminating my fingers as I typed out the message. The words felt painfully inadequate, their simplicity mocking the storm raging inside me.
"Hope you made it to your apartment safely."
My thumb hovered over the send button. It was such a small thing, a drop in the ocean of everything I wanted to say. But I didn't know what else to do. I just needed him to know I was thinking of him, even if he didn't care. Even if he didn't respond.
With a deep, shaky breath, I pressed send. The little "delivered" mark appeared beneath the text, and I stared at it like it might hold some kind of answer. It didn't.
