Seraphina felt the weight of Adrian's gaze like a physical force pressing down on her. His words sliced through the fragile moment she had just found comfort in, shattering the relief of reuniting with her children.
His stormy gray eyes were dark with something she couldn't quite place…anger, pain, disgust? Maybe all three.
Her heartbeat pounded in her ears, but she forced herself to remain calm. She had expected many things when she came back, but Adrian wasn't one of them.
"Theo, Olivia, let's go." She said, putting the kids down from her arms and holding their hands. She felt all the energy leaving her body. She feared she would drop the kids which is why she put them down. She turned around to leave without saying another word when she heard him again.
"You really didn't waste any time, did you?" His voice was thick with venom, laced with a bitterness that made her stomach turn.
