Darius scanned him like a studious scholar scrutinizing a thesis paper. There was something in the way his eyes flickered around his face, searching, prying, as if he's trying to unravel secrets that Auri himself had no clue about. When his searching gaze settled on his lips, Auri had to suck in a deep breath in anticipation, until the man finally pulled away.
Auri breathed a sigh of relief. The man was over six feet tall and towered over him so easily. With their height difference, it would be a lie if he said Darius didn't intimidate him. But what was that about?
"You seem well," Darius commented. "I take it that you received divine healing from the empire's dogs."
Auri rubbed his nape. "Something like that."
"You must be a believer, then."
"Not really. I'm not the religious type."
"Oh?" Darius cocked his head to the side. "So you're saying you received divine healing despite being a nonbeliever?"
