I was deep into my research again, sifting through encrypted files and piecing together fragmented leads about Richard's hidden past, when Marion pulled me aside in the quiet corridor of our secure facility.
His usually calm expression was marred by worry, a look I hadn't seen on him in a long time.
"Selena," he began, his voice low and earnest, "I think you're getting too close to the truth."
I frowned, setting my tablet aside. "Too close?" I echoed, not quite understanding. "I'm just following the trail. I need to know what he's been up to if I'm to protect us."
Marion shook his head slowly. "It's not just about Richard. There's more at stake here. Gonzalo's organization... their reach is dangerous, far beyond what you might imagine." His eyes searched mine as if pleading for caution.
"I don't have all the details, but I've heard whispers. I worry that if you keep digging, you might attract attention, attention that could put you in harm's way."
