Chapter 22 - The Warmth in My Hands

Usagi's POV:

Okami-kun let out a small breath, his eyes flickering with something unreadable—guilt, maybe? Shame?

"I'm sorry you had to see something so lame…" he murmured as we reached home.

I didn't let him finish. Placing both my hands on his cheeks, I made him look at me, my gaze firm and unwavering.

"Don't you dare call yourself lame," I said, my voice steady. "And there's nothing wrong with feeling scared or weak. You don't have to force yourself to be strong… at least not when you're with me."

For a moment, he just stared at me, his usual unreadable expression slipping. Then, with a quiet sigh, he closed his eyes and leaned into my touch, as if finally allowing himself to breathe.

Okami-kun… He looked at me, his usual guarded eyes softening just a little.

I took a deep breath and continued, "I never asked… because I can feel how much you've been avoiding your past. You haven't opened up about it to anyone, and those rumors about you… I never believed them." I tightened my grip on his cheeks slightly, grounding both him and myself. "But let me tell you this—I believe in you. And after being together for two years, I know you struggle to express yourself. So I won't ask."

His fingers twitched slightly against mine, but he said nothing.

I smiled softly. "But if you ever feel like sharing your pain… I'm always here to listen. I won't judge you."

For a moment, he didn't move. Then, almost imperceptibly, his hands found my wrists, his grip warm yet hesitant.

"…Thank you," he whispered, so quietly that if I wasn't this close, I might've missed it.

I clapped my hands together with a bright smile. "Now, let's eat something good! I'm starving!"

I paused for a few seconds, long enough for Okami-kun to glance at me curiously. Taking my chance, I stepped closer, standing on my toes as I grabbed the collar of his jacket. Leaning in, I whispered teasingly in his ear,

"How about… I eat you tonight?"

"Huh? Wh-What are you saying?" His face instantly turned red, his usual composed expression completely shattered.

Hehe, that's exactly what I wanted!

Before he could react, I grabbed his collar and pulled him down, pressing my lips against his in a sudden, playful kiss.

Just as I broke the kiss, he panted, his breath uneven, his face completely flustered.

"A-Are you... W-What are you doing?! You sinner!" he stammered, trying to regain his composure.

Hehe, too late for that!

"Is it wrong if I wanna eat up my boyfriend?" I teased, flashing him a cheeky smile.

Hehe, he's all red! Mission accomplished—at least for now. I successfully distracted him, but... that expression from earlier still lingers in my mind.

With that said, I have to find out what scars his heart holds. No matter how long it takes... I want to be the one who heals them.
