Chapter 7 - Carlisle Cullen...Unknown lands

Rian was sitting in the bed of Bella's truck drawing the school waiting for the bell to ring announcing the beginning of another boring day. He looked at Bella who was listening to music with her ear buds, when he heard a loud screech. Looking up he saw a black van speeding into the parking lot out of control the driver had turned the wheel causing it to turn sideways sliding towards the truck. Time slowed as Rian's eyes narrowed, black lightning crackled around his body. He moved quickly hoping to get to Bella on time, out of the corner of his eye he saw a blur.

Just then the van hit, glass shattering and metal screeching. Rian arrived a second later only to see Edward with his arm outstretched with a large dent in the passenger door of the van. He was relieved Bella was okay, even though he knew Edward would save her he still couldn't help being worried. With adrenaline pumping he hadn't even noticed the large shard of glass in his arm.

"SOMEONE CALL 911!"

Rian looked over the crowd who was staring at him, he tilted his head in confusion following their gaze down to his arm. He saw a shard of glass two fingers long sticking out of his forearm. He was about to pull it out when Bella rushed over swatting his hand away.

"Don't! You know that you're not supposed to pull it out, if you do you'll just lose more blood."

Rian could only smile awkwardly, he had almost forgotten that he had a crowd of people around him. They waited for no more than 5 minutes in which Tyler the vans driver kept apologizing to Bella. When the paramedics arrived they took in the situation quickly, they immediately wrapped Rian's arm then checked on Bella and Tyler.

As the paramedics were working Charlie's cruiser pulls in. He jumps out immediately walking up to Rian checking him for more injuries not seeing any he checks on Bella. The paramedic closest to him explains what happened, Charlie's face becoming so red he looked like a tomato. He turned glaring at Tyler storming over like an unstoppable storm.

"Give me your license, you won't be driving for quite a while."

He growled holding out his hand leaving no room to argue. Tyler grimaced as he grabbed his wallet pulling out his license reluctantly handing it over. Charlie grabbed it and turned away, walking back to his cruiser to follow the ambulance to the hospital. Arriving at the hospital 15 minutes later Rian and Bella were led to a room along with Tyler.

"I'm so sorry Bella... I'm sorry."

Tyler apologized for the 10th time in 20 minutes. Rian growled in annoyance pulling the seperater closed. He had grown tired and irritable listening to Tyler's voice repeatedly apologizing. He looked at Bella who seemed more exhausted than anything as they waited for the doctor so they could go home.

As they talked they heard the door open, a man of 30 years old with short blond hair and pale white skin walked in. He saw Charlie and walked up shaking his hand.

"I heard the chiefs kids were brought in."

He looked at Rian and Bella and smiled walking over to Bella.

"Isabella Swan... I'm Carlisle Cullen, I hear your friends of my son Edward."

"Just Bella is fine. And I'm honestly not sure of that, Dr. Cullen."

"Hmm...Well Bella how are you feeling, any pain?"

"I feel fine, it's my brother Rian you should look at."

Bella said exasperatedly while shaking her head. Carlisle smiled gently and chuckled, pulling out a small light.

"Please follow the light."

Carlisle then proceeded to move the light left, right, up, and down. He clicked his pen and wrote down his notes.

"Well other than a probable minor concussion, you seem fine although I do recommend that you take it easy for the next week or so. No strenuous exercise in that time."

Charlie sitting close by sighed in relief. Bella got up and left the room mumbling something about Edward. Carlisle the walked over to Rian taking in his bandaged arm. He asked some questions about how he felt...you know doctor questions. He unwrapped Rian's arm while asking Charlie to leave along with Tyler. Once the left Carlisle looked at Rian once more.

"Okay Rian I'm going to pull this shard out of your arm then re-wrap it...is that alright?"

Rian just nodded with a dead fish look on his face. He held out his arm to Carlisle and took a deep breath. Carlisle smiled and with a quick practiced motion withdrew the glass shard and within moments had Rian's arm re-bandaged.

"Now I expect you to stay clear of physical activity with your arm for the next 2 weeks. We don't want you coming back with an infection or worse."

Carlisle then went out of the room, sending Tyler back in so he could talk to Charlie. As they were discussing the medical advice Rian happened to hear a loud voice a little farther down the hall.

"Bella you hit your head, you have no idea what you're talking about. You should get some rest."

Rian tuned everything out wanting nothing more than to go home. He hated hospital's and their cheap cleaning supplies, the smell he knew was to cover up the stench of death. That's what hospital's were to him a place where many die every day. He wanted absolutely nothing to do with them and the demons who called themselves doctors.

Rian was sitting on the backseat of Charlie's cruiser on their way home listening to Charlie asking questions about what happened. Bella repeatedly comforting him telling him we were fine. He just closed his eyes and took a nap on the way home. What felt like hours was in reality only minutes before they arrived in front of the house, Rian's eyes fluttered feeling the car come to a stop. Opening his mouth wide a yawn escaped while his eyes adjusted to his surrounding's. He took in the forest for a few seconds before getting out of the car and heading up to his room. Closing his door he sank onto his bed with a groan.

Rian went through today's events down to the last second, he couldn't help but feel he'd failed to protect his own sister. First he felt shame which morphed into anger at his own weakness. He was so far into his own thoughts he hadn't noticed the shadows in the corner of his room shifting into what looked like an arch. In the arch was a set of completely black door's with glowing red runes covering the entirety of the arch.

*Shhhh* The eerie doors slowly opened releasing and aura of death and despair. Out of the doors stepped a lithe woman with long flowing hair and red eyes, she was holding a spear identical to the one Rian had used in the fight with Jared, the vampire. She looked coldly at the scene in front of her, noticing Rian's lack of awareness her mouth formed a frown.

"Unacceptable..."

Came a frosty voice, Rian finally noticing the woman's presence tried to move only to find his surroundings change abruptly. He found himself surrounded by darkness, his skin finally taking it The Cold. He turned around to face who attacked him, taking in the woman who had brought him here.

"Weak...this is entirely unacceptable. You will train."

The woman turned abruptly and left, leaving Rian without a second glance. Rian confused looks around, he saw mountains and dead trees and something else, something unnatural. Something that promised and unpleasant death should it get it's hands on him. Rian didn't even think he just acted he turned on his heels and bolted in the opposite direction without a second thought.
