Chapter 65 - Semi Final IV : Brilliance

The game restarts and, as anticipated, Bayern surges forward angrily, keen to strike back quickly. The next five minutes are a test for Utrecht's defense and Amani's leadership. Bayern presses with urgency; their midfield pushes higher, and their fullbacks overlap aggressively.

In the 24th minute, Bayern nearly finds a breakthrough – their left-back, joining the attack, whips a teasing cross into the Utrecht box. A cluster of players leap for it; the ball pinballs around and falls to Bayern's striker at the penalty spot. He swivels for a shot, but just then, the tall centre-back dives in with a last-ditch block, deflecting the ball away. It is heroic defending, and his shout of triumph after the block is almost as loud as the crowd's cheers.

Bayern aren't done – their right winger collects the loose ball, which immediately fires it low toward the far corner. The Utrecht keeper reacts superbly, getting a fingertip to push it wide. Corner for Bayern.

The small crowd of Bavarian fans find their voice again, urging their team on. The corner comes in dangerously, but once more, the tall centre back is there, rising above a sea of bodies to head it clear. For a moment, it's chaos in the box – Bayern sends it back in, and Utrecht hacks it away.

Finally, Amani Hamadi gets a foot on the ball at the top of the box and coolly dribbles out of danger, drawing a foul from a frustrated Bayern midfielder who yanks him down. The whistle and a free kick relieve the pressure. Utrecht's supporters applaud vigorously, chanting player names in appreciation: "Niels" for the big defender's bravery and a loud cheer for Hamadi's composure to draw the foul and end the siege.

Amani helps Amrabat and others up from the turf, patting their backs. One can see Hamadi's mouth moving as he speaks to his teammates, likely saying something like "Great work, keep it up." His Elite Composure is emanating – even after that frenetic spell, his expression remains focused and calm, which rubs off on the others.

With Bayern having thrown so many forward, Utrecht looked for chances to counter a second time. In the 26th minute, after weathering the storm, Utrecht managed to slow the pace and string together passes again. Amrabat and Van der Heyden combine in midfield, exchanging short passes to draw Bayern's midfielders in.

When two opponents converge, Van de Heyden deftly chips the ball over them to Amani, who has drifted into a pocket of space behind. Amani brings the ball down and immediately switches play to the left with a diagonal pass – another attempt to spring Malik on the flank. Malik does well to win a throw-in near the corner flag, giving Utrecht a breather deep in Bayern territory.

As the clock ticks toward 29 minutes, signs of urgency and frustration show in the Bayern ranks. Their earlier confidence has been rattled. This boils over when Malik, continuing to trouble their right-back, gets clattered from behind after releasing a pass. The referee's whistle is sharp – a late tackle. Malik ends up face down on the grass. Utrecht's fans boo loudly while Bayern's coach grimaces.

The ref brandishes the first yellow card of the game to Bayern's right-back.

Amani was the first to Malik's side, already crouching as the winger pushed himself up on his elbows. "You good?" Amani asked, offering his hand.

Malik nodded through a wince, extending a leg to stretch out the ache. "Yeah," he muttered. "Caught me clean, though."

"That's alright," Amani replied, his tone calm but steady. "Let them lose their heads. We keep ours."

As the Utrecht players gathered around the ball to reset for the free kick, Coach Pronk's voice rang out from the touchline, urgent and commanding. He pointed toward the fourth official, who had just signaled the approaching halftime interval.

"Five minutes, boys! Five minutes!" Pronk barked. "Keep it compact! No risks now!"

Utrecht restarts play with the free kick near the left touchline, about 40 yards from Bayern's goal – too far for a shot even for Amani but a good angle to deliver a ball into the box. Instead of a cross, they opt for a short routine to retain possession, mindful of Pronk's caution. Bayern, expecting a cross, are caught a bit off guard as Utrecht work the ball around on the ground. They seem content to wind the clock down to halftime with the lead.

But Amani Hamadi has other ideas. He senses that Bayern's guard is down; their intensity lulled as they anticipate the break. As Utrecht knocks the ball around the back, Amani drifts into a more advanced pocket. He signals subtly to Tijmen and Malik to be ready and then presses up a bit himself.

At the 32nd-minute mark, a Bayern defender tries a risky pass from the back toward his midfield. It's slightly off-target – a Bayern midfielder has to stretch to control it, and his touch is heavy. This is the cue Amani has been watching for.

In a flash, Amani pounces. He closes down the receiving midfielder and cleanly pokes the ball away, suddenly finding it at his own feet with green space ahead. The turnover catches Bayern completely out of shape – their midfield was spreading wide, and their left-back was already upfield. Now, Amani is charging toward their penalty area with only two defenders and the goalkeeper to beat.

He's 25 yards out, slightly left of center, with one panicked center-back stepping up to challenge. One defender is racing to cover Malik and another covering Van der Heyden's run to Amani's left. Scanning quickly, Amani realizes he has just enough space to attempt something audacious.

He decides to try his luck from a distance. With hardly a backswing, Amani plants his left foot and strikes the ball with venom, laces driving through it with pure technique. The Advanced Dipping Shot activates, sending the ball on a sharp rising arc. It lifts like a missile, hissing through the air as the center-back in front of him instinctively ducks, shielding his head. Then, as if it had second thoughts about flying too high it drops.

The Bayern center-back in front of Amani ducks instinctively as the shot whizzes over him. The Bayern goalkeeper, off his line at the edge of the six-yard box, backpedals and leaps, arms outstretched. The ball swerves and drops like a hawk – just beyond the keeper's fingertips. It slams into the top corner of the net with a satisfying thump.

GOAL!!! 2-0 to FC Utrecht! The silence shatters into an explosion of noise. If the celebration for the first goal was loud, this one is deafening. The audacity and brilliance of the strike has everyone on their feet. Hamadi – from 25 yards, in a semifinal, with seemingly nothing on – has produced a goal worthy of the professional stage.

Utrecht's players cannot contain themselves. Amani himself stands frozen for a half-second, arms out wide, disbelief and joy mixing on his face, then lets out a roar of triumph. Malik is the first to reach him, throwing himself at Amani in a flying hug as he practically tackles him.

"BRO! What even was that?!" he yells in his ear, laughing through the shout. The rest of the team floods in, mobbing him with uncontainable joy.

On the touchline, Coach Pronk is momentarily in shock, hands on his head and mouth agape, before he laughs and throws his hands up in celebration. The Bayern players are devastated – some literally sink to their knees. Their keeper lies on the ground, knowing he was beaten by a moment of pure class.

The Bayern players? They look shell-shocked. One defender drops to his knees. The keeper lies still for a second, staring at the crossbar, hands still frozen mid-save. Their coach buries his face in both hands, shaking his head. They'd been undone by a bolt of genius.

The Utrecht fans are beside themselves. That section of supporters bounces in unison, singing at the top of their lungs. One older Utrecht fan has tears in his eyes; he might be thinking of all the times his club was overshadowed by the likes of Ajax or PSV – and here their youth team is 2-0 up against Bayern, with a goal that will be talked about for years. Even neutrals are applauding now. A group of Ajax supporters, who moments ago were subdued, are now clapping and murmuring about Hamadi's goal. Field 2 has become the place to be.

Amani's teammates are patting his head, ruffling his hair – "Captain's goal!" someone shouts amid the huddle. Amani, face flushed with excitement, allows himself a broad grin. But even as they trot back, he's signaling calm again.

Through the adrenaline, he yells, "Reset! It's still 0-0!" – meaning they should play like the scoreline is level, not sit back, but not lose focus either. It's a big ask for a bunch of teenagers brimming with emotion, but coming from Hamadi, they heed it.

Indeed, Bayern looks shell-shocked at the kickoff. There's a delay as one of their players is slow to get up – cramped, or maybe just deflated. The referee adds a minute or two for the celebrations but soon blows the whistle for halftime.
