Chapter 57: Dark Demon Discovers the Pistachio

At the corner.

Dark Demon had not truly left.

As soon as he was out of Virt and Robert's sight, he stopped to listen.

Virt and Robert hadn't bothered to lower their voices, so their entire conversation was clearly overheard by Dark.

"So that's how it is. That flower card has a new function it can peek into someone's affection level."

"Wait, isn't that the protagonist's must-have ability in a Galgame? It's presented this way?"

"So, he was trying to increase my affection level just now?"

"Is there some kind of reward? Or maybe unlocking a CG? Haha, it couldn't possibly be unlocking a CG."

"Although it seems useless, I can't let him freely peek into my mind."

"In Harry Potter, there's Occlumency, which can seal the mind to resist mind-reading spells. At higher levels, it can even simulate false memories. There's no way this world doesn't have something similar."

Dark listened for a while longer. As more people began to fill the hallway, he quickly left.

"Next class is Teacher Kazel's. If the flower card creation really has nothing to do with Teacher Kazel, maybe I can get some information from Virt."

...

When Dark arrived at the Magic Theory classroom, Emma Matisse had already taken the front row seat.

He smiled and, as usual, sat in the back row by the window, waiting for Virt and Robert to arrive.

Based on Virt and Robert's behavior, he had a theory: even if Virt could gain benefits by increasing others' affection levels, it should only work with certain special individuals.

Like, for example, the main characters in a game!

So, Emma should probably be one of them too.

Sure enough, with about five or six minutes left before class, Virt and Robert unusually entered through the front door.

Moreover, Virt deliberately held the [Lust] card in his hand.

Although he pretended to be casual, it was obvious that he used [Lust] to scan Emma!

Then, Virt and Robert hurried to the other side of the back row.

Before even putting down their bags, they huddled together to check the card.

[Name: Emma Matisse]

[Rarity: SSR]

[Affection Level: 31]

Robert exclaimed in surprise, "It's 31! Virt, it's about the same as many others. It seems Emma doesn't dislike you as much as she appears. I wonder what her affection level for me is? Maybe she doesn't dislike me that much either?"

Virt glanced at him and gave an awkward smile, "Haha."

But then, he noticed something on the card a lock!

Though it wasn't a golden lock like Dark's, it was orange.

He immediately touched it, and a line of text appeared below the 🔒: Unlock at Affection Level 80.

"Is it because of the rarity?"

Virt quickly caught onto the key point.

"Dark's rarity is UR, so it's a golden lock. Emma's rarity is SSR, so it's an orange lock. Even though I don't know which one is rarer, it's undoubtedly related to rarity."

Robert also realized the key point, his expression turning slightly grim, "So, the reason my card doesn't have a lock is because..."

Virt quickly comforted him, "Don't worry too much, Robert. Let's check someone else, like Teacher Kazel?"

Robert's eyes lit up, "Even Emma and Dark have locks. The professors must have them too."

Virt whispered, "Keep it down. When the professor arrives, we'll figure something out."

...

"My rarity is UR, and Emma's is SSR?"

Dark picked up his pen and wrote down a tier list in his notebook: N, R, SR, SSR, UR.

"It's probably this kind of ranking. Rather than rarity, it's more like a hierarchy of value."

"If unlocking some reward at Affection Level 80 is the goal, there should be further unlock conditions, like Affection Level 90 or 100."

"Truly a world derived from a Galgame, complete with all the elements."

"But raising affection levels in the real world isn't as easy as with game characters."

"No, I didn't get to fully enjoy the last piece of gossip. This time, I'm going to savor it!"

Even now, whenever Dark thought about the gossip he heard on Friday, he felt a faint sense of joy.

It had really helped ease the [Wrath] building up inside him.

"Virt Gold, perhaps you're a pretty good pistachio."

...

Teacher Kazel was half a minute late to class, and there was still a bit of white bandage visible on his head.

This completely ruined Virt and Robert's plan to corner him at the door.

They could only hope that Teacher Kazel would come down from the podium on his own.

But Teacher Kazel rarely stepped down from the podium unless he was handing out assignments.

→The footstool on the podium told the story.

During this class, Teacher Kazel taught the "Universal Method for Creating Magic Spirit Cards" and recommended a book called The Art of Magic Spirit Creation A Universal Handbook.

Most students listened attentively.

Dark, of course, was also very focused.

This knowledge was crucial for a magician, as textbooks alone could only teach so much.

Teacher Kazel mainly taught a "Basic Creation Method," which combined several creation arrays and ended with the No. 1 Creation Array. By throwing in some potions, plant organs, monster teeth, fur, eyes, blood, and other materials, one could start the creation process.

However, this method was highly random. No one could predict what would be created until the process was complete.

Dark preferred to call it the "Random Creation Method."

In contrast, the The Art of Magic Spirit Creation A Universal Handbook mentioned by Teacher Kazel contained more refined "Basic Creation Methods."

The book categorized the creation methods of Magic Spirit Cards by race and attribute.

Fifteen races, twenty attributes, and three hundred different basic creation methods!

"Perfect, that's exactly what I need."

Dark noted down the book's title and planned to borrow it as soon as class ended.

After finishing this section, Teacher Kazel gave the students time to copy the notes on the board.

Then, he stepped down from the podium to check if the students were taking notes seriously.

When he reached Dark's side, he glanced at the densely packed but neatly organized notes and nodded slightly before turning to the other side of the classroom.

Virt and Robert were over there.

The two quickly pretended to be taking notes. When the professor turned the corner and walked forward, his back to them, Virt knew the opportunity had arrived!

He immediately picked up [Lust] and aimed it at Teacher Kazel.

In the next moment.

"BOOM!"

A burst of pink mist erupted from the surface of [Lust], and the card trembled violently.

Virt was startled and quickly pressed down on the card.

But Teacher Kazel had already turned around, his brows deeply furrowed as he stared at him.
