Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: After the Truth of the Clan Extermination

Rin let out a sigh of relief. She could accept Obito killing strong enemies, but if he had slaughtered innocent villagers, she would have been troubled.

Kakashi couldn't help but mock, "That Itachi, he really was utterly heartless."

Minato showed some sympathy, "I think… he must have been in pain too. Just from the fact that he carried out Danzo's orders, you can tell that he loved the village. For the village's sake, he had no choice but to kill his own clansmen. I can't even imagine how much mental pressure he had to endure."

"It's just that both he and Danzo were too extreme in their thinking."

Obito nodded, "Itachi, from the night of the massacre until the day he died, lived in constant suffering. Even I could feel his exhaustion."

"To be honest, I have no right to judge Itachi, since in my past life, my thinking was also quite extreme."

Then, Obito turned to look at Kakashi, "Actually, if your mindset hasn't changed yet, then you don't have the right to judge either. After all, based on your thoughts when you were five years old, Itachi perfectly executed the mission assigned by Konoha's higher-ups. So how could that be considered wrong?"

Kakashi suddenly felt a chill in his heart. Fortunately, he hadn't turned into someone like Itachi.

Rin, on the other hand, suddenly snapped out of her thoughts, "So, Obito, you alone dealt with the elite Uchiha forces that Minato-sensei said even the entire Konoha couldn't easily handle?"

Her eyes lit up, filled with a hint of admiration.

Obito felt a little embarrassed, "It was partly thanks to Itachi as well."

"The Mangekyō Sharingan has an overwhelming suppressive effect on the Three Tomoe Sharingan. Attacking one's own clan is the most fatal situation. The Uchiha's most troublesome illusion techniques became useless in the face of the Mangekyō. On top of that…", Obito paused for a moment and looked at Minato, "Minato-sensei, my Mangekyō ability is a space-time ninjutsu. You also have space-time ninjutsu, so you should understand how fast such techniques can kill ninjas weaker than us."

Namikaze Minato thought for a moment and nodded, "Indeed, as long as my opponent isn't as fast as me, lacks effective defensive survival techniques, and doesn't understand my abilities well enough to respond in time… then killing them usually takes just one move. The difference between a Jōnin and a Genin doesn't really matter in that case."

Obito smiled, "My situation was similar. When we first met, even you, Minato-sensei, almost fell for it, let alone ordinary ninjas."

Minato nodded in understanding, "I think I get it now. With you and Itachi ambushing them with two pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan, it would have been easy to take out most of the Uchiha clan. But what about Fugaku? If Fugaku was there leading the resistance, he also had a Mangekyō Sharingan, so he wouldn't have been that easy to deal with."

Obito thought for a moment and sighed, "Fugaku and Lady Mikoto were killed by Itachi. Judging from the situation, they died in their own home without any signs of struggle. It seems they understood that Itachi had sided with Konoha. They acknowledged their rebellion had failed, and instead of fighting their son, they chose to die at his hands voluntarily…"

Minato felt a bit regretful, "I see… After all, he was their son. Thankfully, Kushina didn't know about this. Otherwise, if Mikoto died, she would have been heartbroken."

Now that everything was mostly clear, Minato relaxed.

At this moment, he became curious about Obito, "Obito, to be honest, I'm very interested in your Mangekyō Sharingan's space-time ninjutsu. I know that using the Mangekyō now puts a heavy burden on you, but I've heard that even in your Three Tomoe state, you can use part of your Mangekyō abilities?"

Obito grinned, "Minato-sensei, I actually wanted to exchange insights with you about using space-time ninjutsu."

"How about we have a spar? That way, you can experience Kamui's abilities firsthand."

Minato's eyes immediately lit up with a competitive spirit, eager to try, "Obito, it's getting late today. Let's postpone our spar until tomorrow. I also want to see just how strong you are now."

Obito couldn't help but recall events from his past life, "Minato-sensei, actually, during the Nine-Tails attack, I fought against you once. You even taught me a lesson, Flying Thunder God Second Step into Rasengan on my back, completely catching me off guard. Thinking back, that really didn't feel great."

Minato awkwardly scratched his head, "Really? Kakashi never mentioned these details to me."

Still, he knew himself well. The Flying Thunder God Second Step was one of his trump cards. If he had to use it, that meant Obito had been strong enough back then to force his hand and put him under immense pressure.

'Was Obito really just fourteen years old at that time?'

Seeing his student grow to this level, Minato actually felt quite gratified.

Minato smiled, "Alright, we've talked for so long. Everyone must be hungry. Let's set up camp, build a fire, and have dinner."

The three younger ones nodded. The group quickly got to work, and before long, they had set up two tents and started a fire.

Soon, they sat around the campfire, enjoying the bento Kushina had prepared, the grilled fish Kakashi made, and the rice balls Rin had wrapped. They cheerfully savored the peaceful moment.

Even Kakashi narrowed his eyes in satisfaction and praised, "Sensei's wife really makes delicious food."

[A/N: This is a reference to Ultimate Ninja Storm, where it's established that Kushina's cooking is good. However, the timeline is three years later, so at this point, it's unclear if her cooking was already good or if it was still 'dark cuisine.']

Rin watched Kakashi eat with a smile and asked, "Kakashi, your face is clearly very handsome. Why do you insist on wearing a mask to cover it?"

Obito snorted, "Why else? To act cool. This trick must have made countless girls fall for him."

Kakashi said nothing but instinctively sped up his eating. He took small bites, quickly finished his meal, and immediately put his mask back on.

Only then did he leisurely respond, "Maybe it's just a habit. Ninjas always hide in the shadows. I only feel a sense of security when I wear my mask. Otherwise, I feel uncomfortable all over."

"Tch!", Obito scoffed in disdain.

Kakashi turned the question back on him, "I remember we prepared four tents. Why did you only take out two?"

Obito instantly looked awkward, "Four is too much and a hassle to pack up later, hahaha!"

Then, Obito looked at Rin, "Rin, do you still remember what you said before the mission?"

Rin was confused, 'What had I said?'

Obito replied, "Of course, about sleeping together! Look, both tents are quite large. It's just right for you and me to share one, while Kakashi and Minato-sensei share the other."

Rin's face immediately turned red, and she glared at Obito, "Hmph, so this was your plan all along."

However, after thinking for a moment, she sighed, "Fine. Since I promised, I'll keep my word. As long as you don't have any bad intentions, there's nothing wrong with sharing a tent."

"Yeah!", Obito made a victory gesture. He swore he really didn't have any bad thoughts.

It was just… after being alone for so long, he just wanted someone to stay with him.[T/N: 😑]

The next morning, a faint mist lingered in the forest. Obito slowly woke up and found that Rin was already awake, staring at him the whole time.

He felt a little embarrassed, "Rin, is there something on my face?"

Rin shook her head, "No, it's just that… you look really nice when you sleep, so I couldn't help but look a few more times."

Obito's face immediately turned red. He quickly got up and went outside to wash up.

Rin chuckled, 'Sleeping with Obito isn't bad at all. In fact, he's the one who's more shy.'
