Chapter 1 - Death

After he had walked for a very long distance from the school, he came out from the bush and stood in an open space — It was a large area of field that was covered with short grasses, nothing could be hidden in that plain grass field and there was no place to hide even if one wanted to unless he turns back into the bush. But Alex turned around and to his shock, the bush was nowhere to be seen.

"What—" He stuttered. He was halfway through his shock when he suddenly began to hear sounds coming from up.

He raised his head and looked up, coming down to him was a group of people dressed in white robes with golden swords in their hands.

The one who seemed to the the leader was wearing a large cross around his neck that reached his belle.

"Is he the one with the ancient bloodline?" The leader asked.

"Yes, priest!" One of the members of the group replied.

"What are you waiting for? Begin with the ritual!" The leader then said and all the members of the group raised their swords in the air as they descended and glowing beams streamed out from the swords and made a circle with a pattern in the center of it. The golden circle was large, large enough to swallow a large area of land and it descended upon Alex who was still clueless as to what was happening.

Before he could realize what was going on, the pressure being emitted from the circle was pressing down on him like a weight. He tried to stand on his legs but he couldn't and ended up falling on one knee and even at that, the pressure continued coming down at him.

"Wh-who are you?" He muttered.

"We are the liberators! We are here to carry out our obligation—" Not yet done speaking, the leader noticed the purple glow that was being emitted by Alex and pulled out his sword. "You are trying to use your bloodline powers, I will not to allow you succeed!" He said in an authoritative tone and raised his sword, making a vertical slash in the air.

A wave of force spurted out and danced its way to Alex and he was blown into the ground. Even with the force, the circle was still intact and was still coming down at him.

"Your existence is a curse to humanity or do you not know?" The leader asked as he stared into the hole in the ground. "Those around you will keep dying one after the other until no human is left. As a leader of the liberators and a true worshiper of the deity, I will annihilate you and bring peace to humanity again. I will wipe away the curse your birth brought along with it!"

"Did you kill my uncle?" Alex asked as he climbed out of the hold with a cut on his face. The earlier slash in the air got to him and gave him a deep slash on the face.

"I killed everyone associated with you," The leader replied.

When Alex heard 'everyone' he charged again because the 'everyone' means both the innocent servants working for Damon as well. What have they got to do with him that they must die for?

"You've got to be kidding me," he mumbled and opened his arms. Purple glows began to surround him, forming flames and turning him into a body of purple flames. "If I perish I perish, it got nothing to do with anybody!" He yelled and the flames suddenly burst out and scattered all over, even the golden circle was shattered into pieces and all the members of the group were blown away — only one remained standing in the air.

"Leader, is he trying to —?" That one person asked the leader who squinted his eyes upon realizing what Alex did.

"We still have to do the final blow," the leader said and drove his sword toward Alex who was kneeling unmoving on the ground. He raised his head slowly and watched as the sword made its way toward him.

He smiled weakly and just before the sword could get to him, it stopped midair and soon broke into pieces.

"The life is mine to take and no one's," he mumbled and fell to the ground.

"Leader, is he?" The one member remaining asked the leader.

"He is dead," the leader replied.

"But how?" The man asked him.

"He somehow figures out that we weren't just after his life but the bloodline power so instead of letting us have it, he destroyed it. What he doesn't know is that destroying the powers will take his life," the leader explained as he gazed at Alex's lifeless body with a mix of anger and regret in his eyes.

"We didn't kill him, is that a failed mission?" The man asked him.

"Not until we don't return with his body. Now go and get him," the leader said to him.

The man nodded and floated down to carry Alex's body but as soon as he went to touch him, his body disappeared without a trace.

The man froze, his outstretched hand trembling slightly as he stared at the empty patch of ground where Alex's body had been. "Leader—he's gone!" His voice wavered in disbelief.

"What?" The leader's expression darkened as he descended, his white robes fluttering around him. His golden sword trembled in his grip as he scanned the area, searching for any trace of Alex. "Impossible. No one should be able to move under the effects of the purification circle, let alone escape it."

The remaining members of the group, still recovering from the blast of purple flames, gathered behind their leader with wary expressions. One of them stepped forward, his voice cautious. "Could it be the bloodline's final defense? If he severed his connection to the ancient power, perhaps it triggered some kind of escape mechanism."

The leader clenched his teeth, his hand tightening around the hilt of his sword. "Even if he destroyed the bloodline, his physical body should not have vanished like this. Someone else—" He cut himself off, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the sky. "There's another force at play here."

The man who had tried to retrieve Alex's body knelt on the ground, studying the faint scorch marks left by the purple flames. "What now, Priest? Should we report this to the High Order?"

"No." The leader's voice was cold and sharp. "We cannot return empty-handed. Without his body, the curse lingers. If he survived… he will surface again. And when he does—" His grip on the sword flared with golden light. "I will be there to end him for good."

A tense silence settled over the field as the golden remnants of the ritual faded into nothingness. The wind stirred the short grasses, as if the battle that had taken place was nothing more than a fleeting whisper.

"Spread out," the leader commanded. "If he's still alive, he won't stay hidden for long."

Without hesitation, the Liberators dispersed in all directions, their white robes blending with the light of dawn as they vanished into the horizon. But no matter how far they searched, there was no sign of Alex, only the lingering chill of the power he had unleashed.

And somewhere, far beyond their reach, Alex drifted in the void between life and death, his body broken but his will far from shattered.
