050 Combusken Debut! Blaze Kick by Contest
"Torchic evolved?"
A.J's pupils shrank. He clenched his fists, feeling a mixture of shock and frustration. Why did fate seem to favor Qin Yun so much?
If Wang Man's Pokémon hadn't been Shiftry and hadn't used Sunny Day, maybe the battle would have ended differently.
Wang Man was a formidable trainer strong enough that even A.J. wouldn't have an easy time defeating him. But the cruel reality was that Shiftry's primary Grass-type made it vulnerable to Fire-types like Torchic.
"How can this be…" A.J muttered bitterly.
As the brilliant light of evolution slowly faded, Torchic's transformed figure stood proudly in the ring no longer a small chick, but a fierce Combusken!
Combusken's body was now covered in orange and yellow feathers, its once tiny wings replaced by strong, clawed arms. Its sharp talons dug into the ground, radiating a newfound strength and fighting spirit.
Combusken's evolution sent ripples through the crowd. Some gasped in amazement, while others clenched their fists in anticipation.

Qin Yun studied Combusken with awe. He hadn't expected it to evolve so soon, nor did he expect it to reach Entry-Level Peak strength so quickly.
"Nice job, Combusken!" he praised, smiling at his Pokémon.
More than just evolving, Combusken had gained two crucial Fighting-type moves Double Kick and Blaze Kick. Both were leg-based techniques, perfectly complementing its prior use of Axe Kick.
"If I can combine these moves… the strength will be overwhelming." Qin Yun murmured, deep in thought.
Even though evolution didn't fully restore Combusken's stamina, it had recovered significantly. Compared to Torchic's previous exhausted state, it now had more than enough strength to keep fighting.

A Desperate Battle
"This is troublesome…"
Wang Man grimaced, realizing his disadvantage. He had been confident in facing Torchic even one in peak condition. But against Combusken? His odds had plummeted.
Still, surrender was not an option.
"We're not going down without a fight, Shiftry!" he declared, his eyes burning with determination.
Shiftry sensed its trainer's fighting spirit and let out a low, serious growl. The atmosphere around it changed it was no longer taking the fight lightly.
As a member of the Rocket Class in No. 1 Middle School, Wang Man had his pride. He had initially found the battle uninteresting because of the unfair gauntlet setup against Qin Yun.
But now, he was motivated by a different reason he wanted to prove his strength.
"No regrets! Let's fight with everything we've got!"
"Shiftry!"
The Grass/Dark-type Pokémon responded, standing tall. It wasn't going to back down either.
Wang Man knew that removing Sunny Day would have been ideal, considering Combusken's Fire-type advantage. But Speed Boost had already been activated. There was no turning back.

The Final Clash
"Shiftry, use Leaf Tornado!"
A powerful whirlwind of sharp leaves swirled around Shiftry, creating a high-speed cyclone.
Qin Yun smirked.
"Combusken, use Quick Attack to close the distance."
With a burst of speed, Combusken shot forward like a bullet.
The audience gasped.
"That speed… it's insane!"
"How did it get so fast?!"
Wang Man's pupils shrank.
"Impossible! Cunning Tengu, don't let it get close cut it off!"
Shiftry unleashed a storm of spinning leaves, attempting to block Combusken's path.
But just as the leaves neared, something unexpected happened
They burned.
Tiny embers erupted in the air as the leaves incinerated before making contact.
If one looked closely, they would notice something unusual about Combusken's body a faint aura of heat radiated from it.
Blaze had activated.
The prolonged battle had weakened Combusken, pushing it into a state of high adrenaline. The ability's effect amplified its Fire-type moves even further.
"This is it…" Qin Yun's eyes gleamed.
"Combusken, finish this with Blaze Kick!"
Combusken's right leg ignited in flames as it leaped into the air.
Seeing the opportunity, Wang Man gritted his teeth.
"This is our chance! Shiftry, take the hit and counter with Payback! Full power!"
Shiftry braced itself. If it endured the kick, Payback would deal double the damage, possibly turning the fight around.
Wang Man's strategy was clear endure the attack, heal up with Synthesis, and shift the momentum.
It was a desperate plan, but it was all he had.
Unfortunately, he underestimated Combusken's power.

The Decisive Blow
The Blaze Kick was far stronger than expected.
As Combusken's foot connected, flames erupted around Shiftry. The sheer force sent it crashing into the ground with a deafening boom!
Wang Man's heart dropped.
The heat was too intense Shiftry was completely overwhelmed!
The moment the attack landed, Shiftry let out a pained cry before collapsing, steam rising from its body.
The match was over.
"…Cunning Tengu!"
Wang Man rushed forward, his voice filled with urgency.
Miss Joy quickly stepped in, stabilizing Shiftry's injuries. It was badly burned but not in critical condition.
The crowd stood in stunned silence.
One by one, the students from No. 1 Middle School turned pale.
If even Wang Man's Shiftry a top-tier Rocket Class Pokémon was utterly defeated…
Who among them stood a chance?
"I… lost." Wang Man muttered.
But despite his loss, relief washed over him—his Pokémon was safe.
If Blaze Kick had been any stronger, Shiftry might not have survived the battle.
Holding his partner in his arms, Wang Man smiled bitterly.
"This was a disaster… but at least Cunning Tengu is okay."
As for the rest of the No. 1 Middle School trainers…
None of them dared to step forward.
They had seen what happened.
And they knew if their Pokémon took a hit like that…
They wouldn't get back up.
