Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: "The Truth" and Civil Liability—Choose One, Conan-kun

Conan took out a listening device, which was very small—about the size of a fingernail—and could be attached anywhere at will.

The bugging device looked very discreet, resembling a button, making it impossible to distinguish unless examined closely.

"Your Honor, this device contains a recording of Miss Koshimizu's confession on the deserted island."

Conan pressed the button, and suddenly, a conversation could be heard from within.

The recorded conversation included everyone invited by Nanatsuki Koshimizu to the deserted island at that time.

The sound was crystal clear, with no electrical noise. Conan had improved this device after asking Dr. Agasa for help last time. It was far more powerful than the recorder he had before.

In the recording, three detectives each identified a different suspect. But in the end, it was Conan who arrived at the scene and identified Nanatsuki Koshimizu. Then, Hattori Heiji tricked her into unintentionally revealing the key evidence: the window screws.

After that, Nanatsuki Koshimizu admitted it, and in front of everyone, she told the whole story of how she killed the victims, the methods she used, and her motives for doing so.

"This evidence fully proves that Miss Koshimizu committed the murder."

Conan turned off the recorder.

In addition, there was the key evidence—the window screws. The forensic department had also extracted Miss Koshimizu's DNA. It could be said that the evidence was complete.

As Conan said this, he glanced at Keisuke, who was seated at the lawyer's bench.

At that moment, Conan stopped pretending. He no longer cared whether he was just an elementary school student. The only thing on his mind was how to reveal the truth in front of everyone.

The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, and there seemed to be a glint of victory in his eyes, as if he was certain of his own truth.

Keisuke Kumiko narrowed his eyes.

This kid really did it.

Before this, he had gone to the detention center to meet Nanatsuki Koshimizu for the first time and asked if there was anyone carrying a recording device on the deserted island.

Nanatsuki Koshimizu's answer was: "Probably not, we checked."

Obviously, she had overlooked Conan at the time. After all, Conan was just an elementary school student, and most people wouldn't pay attention to him.

But that didn't matter—he had already anticipated this before the trial.

Everything was under Keisuke Kumiko's control.

He stepped down from the lawyer's bench with a smile on his face and slowly approached Conan.

"Kid, are you sure the audio you recorded can be used as evidence? Eavesdropping and recording secretly is illegal!"

Keisuke smiled, his eyes narrowing like a cunning fox.

Conan frowned slightly and said, "Of course, I'm sure this can be used as evidence, because it's not a wiretap—it contains the voices of everyone present, including me, and does not constitute illegal evidence collection under the law."

"Oh, kid, it seems you've studied a lot."

Keisuke nodded with a smile.

Then he said, "I've heard there's a device on the market called the Kamen Rider Voice Changer that can simulate people's voices. So how can you guarantee that this recording is real and not fake?"

Seeing Kumiko's smile, Conan furrowed his brows even deeper.

Keisuke Kumiko's inexplicable attitude made him feel a little uneasy.

It seemed like there was some kind of trap.

Conan suppressed his unease and said, "Of course, I can guarantee that the voice is neither fake nor edited. The voiceprint in the recording can be used for forensic identification to determine the speaker's identity."

"Well, very good, very good, very good."

Keisuke smiled and clapped his hands.

Then, he suddenly changed the subject.

"Little friend, I'd like to ask you: Did you obtain my client's permission for this recording?"

Conan was stunned.

Then he thought of something, and his expression finally changed.

"According to the Civil Code, recording a private conversation without the parties' consent, playing it in public, and spreading it… let's see, the content of this recording includes my client's personal experiences, social relationships, hobbies, etc. Your act of secretly recording and distributing it is a complete violation of her privacy!"

"When you did this, did you ever think that you might hurt the feelings of a poor girl?"

As he spoke, he dropped his smile and put on a sorrowful expression.

At the same time, he subtly winked at Nanatsuki Koshimizu, who was sitting in the defendant's seat.

The girl immediately understood and cooperated, covering her face and crying again.

She looked so pitiful, like a pear blossom in the rain, evoking sympathy from the audience.

A sudden murmur spread among the spectators.

"Why is this kid like this…?"

"Whose child is this? Don't his parents discipline him properly?"

"Learning to invade people's privacy at such a young age. What will he become when he grows up?"

"He's a complete criminal! A little beast!"

"People like him will only commit crimes in the future. I need to go home and educate my child properly."

Hearing the voices from all around, Keisuke slightly curled the corners of his mouth.

But he quickly concealed that expression.

"Little friend, although I really don't want to do this…"

Keisuke Kumiko deliberately hesitated and sighed.

"But if my client is willing, I will send a lawyer's letter to your guardian and consider filing a civil lawsuit against you—if you admit that this recording is real and not fake."

"…"

"…"

At that moment, Conan no longer had his previous composure.

He looked around and saw that everyone—the judge, the jury, and the ordinary people in the gallery—were all looking at him with strange and disapproving gazes.

Conan couldn't help but clench his teeth, and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Damn it, so that's why Keisuke Kumiko's attitude remained unchanged.

Turns out this guy was waiting for this moment!

It was obvious that this was another open conspiracy by Keisuke Kumiko.

If Conan admitted that the recording was real, he would have to accept a civil lawsuit and be taken to court again.

If he admitted that the recording was fake, the truth would not be revealed, and the criminal would escape punishment.

The truth or a civil lawsuit.

He had to choose one, but no matter which he chose, he would fall into the other party's trap.

Conan raised his head, gritted his teeth, and looked at Keisuke Kumiko's hateful smile.

Damn it, that guy, that guy…!

"Objection!"

At that moment, Hattori Heiji's anxious voice came from the side.

Sensing that something was wrong, Hattori Heiji quickly stood up, pointed at Keisuke, and shouted.

"Your Honor, this man is intimidating the witness and leading his testimony! This behavior is illegal!"

The judge frowned, looked at him, and struck the gavel.

"Special witness, please be silent! I'm warning you—if you shout in court again, you will be immediately charged with disrupting judicial order and expelled from the courtroom!"

"…Damn it!"

Hattori Heiji clenched his teeth and had no choice but to sit back down.

He could only remain silent because it was his second time speaking out.

He had a hot-tempered personality, and the judge's patience with him seemed to have reached its limit.
