Chapter 3 - Zhai Mei Struggles With Love But Love Never Gives Up On Zhai Mei

Mother Nature was a group of both female and male members, with their songs so ethereal and naturalised, you felt like you were in a snow capped mountain breathing in a fantastic air of freshness.

Zhai Mei was one of the beings that were transported to such a place while listening to their songs, and from then one, had been a dedicated supporter of the mixed group.

Now you ask how a person who was hard of hearing could listen and enjoy music?

This was because Zhai Mei's situation was unique.

She could clearly hear the different sounds roaring around her, but when it came to words, a blanket of silence invaded her world, and they became a muffle.

So even though she couldn't discern the lyrics, she enjoyed the melodies with much fervour.

This girl's life was not an easy one indeed. And she struggled to make and keep friends. Most weren't patient with her situation, and others grew tired of her repeated silence.

But not to worry, Zhai Mei had went through many trials, and she'd seen through each and every one of them, with the help of her beautiful singers Mother Nature.

Her favourite member in all the elegance was the energised male spirit with a boyish vibe, Fu Lei. Zhai Mei has always been attracted to spirits such as Fu lei's, and her crushes were no exception.

She first noticed Gu Wei when she was fourteen, and witnessed him jumping over the school walls to avoid the pestering teachers for his lateness.

This soft and kindred spirit was naturally drawn to the happy and free one.

Zhai Mei's crush festered from one encounter to the other, and soon, she could not deny her feelings for the boy Gu Wei.

While steeling herself to confront the person she liked and confess, Zhai Mei was approached by the person himself. It was fate working it's power over the situation.

They did say when two souls were bound together, they always found a way to gravitate close, conscious or unconsciously.

Such was the fate of souls bound so tightly, they couldn't escape each other.

The situation was normally going to happen, and Zhai Mei waited with bated breath to hear the words of this free-spirited boy that had captured her heart.

A muffle was all she heard, and little Zhai Mei was not fluent in lips-reading, so Gu Wei's effort were all reduced to a mumbling mouth and heavy silence.

Before Zhai Mei could reach for her note and pen, the boy had howled his way through over the walls, leaving a close-to-tears Zhai Mei alone, her salvation held uselessly in a tight grip and the wind rustling the autumn leaves.

Zhai Mei heard the scratch as they scraped against the concrete ground, she heard the soft whistling flow of the wind, but she could not hear the most important thing.

The words Gu Wei had uttered to her.

Naturally, Zhai Mei did not give up that easily. If she'd guessed true, and Gu Wei had confessed his feelings that sunny day, then it was Zhai Mei's turn to share hers.

Relationships worked both ways and Zhai Mei was not going to let her situation get in the way of her happiness. It would not win this time.

Prepared with her papers and pen, Zhai Mei approached Gu Wei with every ounce of courage she could muster, but, was sadly met with a cold shoulder.

The person she'd approached was so immersed in the screen of his phone, he barely acknowledged her.

Still, Zhai Mei had come all this way, and she shoved her notebook in his face. Introducing herself and asking if he recalled his words the day before.

The characters bunched up in the note were too much for a delinquent such as Gu Wei to read in one sitting, so he skimmed over them instead.

And he did remember, but what he recalled was two light years away from what actually occurred.

Gu Wei could not remember confessing his feelings, as his head was currently consumed with love for another, and all he could remember was that he'd tried to talk to Zhai Mei, and was met with silence.

A boy like him, who flourished under the love he felt for another, completely forgot why or how he'd approached Zhai Mei.

So strong was his draw to Fu Yuan, that he'd forgotten his feelings for a fellow classmate.

Truly, what was a fellow friend in the eyes of an Idol like Fu Yuan, perfect and elegant in all things?

Zhai Mei may have stood a chance before Gu Wei had discovered Fu Yuan, but after?

Only a miracle could bring these shattered souls together again.

For the next few days, Zhai Mei hung around Gu Wei, hoping for a chance, anything beyond the exchanged pleasantries, but was always just beyond the walls surrounding Gu Wei's heart. A heart that beat for a single being now.

Fu Yuan.

Days passed, weeks blurred together, and soon, Zhai Mei had given up on Gu Wei, choosing instead to focus on her studies.

After all, the heavens didn't fall when she'd been rejected a thousand times, and life stopped for no one.

That was the way Zhai Mei's crush grew to be a silent constant throb in her chest. A throb that was re-awakened the moment a presence filled her senses and familiar lips uttered her name.

"Zhai Mei-ah?"

This time, Zhai Mei could clearly read the words, and her heart squeezed at the person in her vision.

Fate worked in mysterious ways indeed, and it had once more found a way to intertwine these two lost souls in a tight embrace.
