Dr. Connors smiled faintly.
Before becoming a university professor, he had served as a military doctor. During the war, he had witnessed too much misfortune.
Many people lost their lives in the war, and even those who survived often suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
But compared to them, those who were left disabled by the war were the truly tragic ones.
Curt Connors was one of them.
The war had cost him his entire right arm.
If it weren't for his extensive knowledge, which allowed him to work as a university professor, he wouldn't have known what to do with his life.
Later, by chance, he met Norman Osborn.
Osborn supported his research on genetic recombination.
Currently, the research was in its final stages. Once this phase was complete, human trials would begin.
The regeneration of a lizard's severed tail had inspired Connors.
If this experiment succeeded, there would be no more disabilities in the world!
Perhaps even no more diseases!
Major illnesses in life often stemmed from the failure of a specific organ or tissue.
Due to high costs and mismatched organs, many patients were left lying in bed, waiting to die.
But if genetic recombination succeeded, humans infused with lizard DNA could potentially grow new organs.
Even if that wasn't achievable, regenerating lost limbs for those with physical disabilities shouldn't be too difficult.
Unfortunately, Norman Osborn turned out to be the Green Goblin, a threat to the world.
With his imprisonment, the genetic recombination project was put on hold.
Without funding, Connors' experiments couldn't continue.
Fortunately, a few days ago, Harry Osborn, Norman's son, contacted him.
Harry promised to restart the project once he returned to the country.
This news thrilled Connors, which was why he was in the mood to attend his university colleague Carter's retirement party tonight.
Connors looked at Peter with a smile and said:
"You mentioned you've read my papers, so you should know my philosophy."
"I have a colleague who suffers from Parkinson's and macular degeneration. His vision is blurry and deteriorating."
"From a biological perspective, how should he treat himself?"
Seeing Peter hesitate to answer, a classmate named Kaisen quickly spoke up:
"Dr. Connors, stem cells!"
Kaisen had always looked down on Peter, often targeting him and gossiping about him with his group of friends.
He called Peter a freeloader who hid behind Gwen.
In truth, his anger stemmed from the fact that he wasn't the one freeloading off Gwen.
So he constantly targeted Peter, but whether it was academic performance or other areas, he could never surpass Peter.
His eagerness to impress Connors now was just another attempt to embarrass Peter.
Connors nodded.
"That's an idea, but I need a more radical solution."
"Trans-species genetics!"
Peter gave the correct answer:
"Once dopamine-producing brain cells disappear, people develop Parkinson's. But zebrafish have the ability to regenerate cells."
"If we could transfer their genes to your colleague, he might be able to heal himself."
Kaisen couldn't resist mocking:
"Yeah, just give the patient gills on their neck, and they'll be fine."
"Enough."
Connors cut Kaisen off.
"Arrogance and mockery won't add any new knowledge to your brain."
Connors looked at Peter, his expression now filled with appreciation.
"Mr. Parker, let's exchange contact information. If you have time, we can discuss this in more detail elsewhere."
"The honor is mine, Professor."
Kaisen felt like a clown, his disdain for Peter growing stronger.
"Hey, Peter, dare to compare drinking skills?"
He provoked Peter with a glare.
But Peter ignored him, leaving behind two words Kaisen didn't understand.
"Sb!"
Although Kaisen didn't understand the words, he knew they weren't complimentary.
Ignoring Kaisen's anger, Peter turned away.
"Peter, are you only good at hiding behind women?"
Gwen, hearing the commotion, quickly stepped in, grabbing Peter's hand.
"Hiding behind women?"
"Peter is the bravest person I know. Have you seen the news? When Doctor Octopus wreaked havoc in the streets today, who was the one standing in front of him to stop him?"
"And you, Kaisen, are just a pitiful loser with mediocre grades, barely scraping by with a C average every year."
"Besides, Peter is my boyfriend. If you're so tough, go find a woman to protect you too!"
With that, Gwen pulled Peter away from the party.
It wasn't until they returned to Queens that Gwen's face turned bright red.
Standing at the door of Gwen's house, the two faced each other, hands still intertwined.
Gwen looked into Peter's eyes. Though her face and ears were flushed, there was a hint of challenge in her gaze.
Peter smiled and said:
"So, my girlfriend, should we have a goodbye hug, or maybe a kiss?"
"Eww—Peter, when did you become so cheesy?"
Despite her words, Gwen immediately threw herself into Peter's arms.
Just then, George opened the door.
His expression was complicated as he watched the newly love-struck couple.
He had always liked Peter, but seeing him holding his daughter…
For some reason, he felt an urge to kick him.
