Swish
The exposed veins and arteries spewed blood as the severed arm flew into the air.
"AAAAAHHHH." A blood-curdling scream resounded within the command centre.
The chief clutched his elbow and screamed.
Incredible pain, beyond description, coursed through the exposed wound just below the elbow, where his arm had been.
Though slightly delayed, the soldiers and Achara reacted.
Achara swiftly moved behind Oliver, preventing further escalation. The team leader quickly caught the airborne arm, still spewing blood.
The remaining soldiers raised their weapons, blocking the panicked researchers.
"Oliver, what in the hell are you doing?" Achara asked, glaring.
"Making him understand his current situation," Oliver replied, unfazed.
"You can't kill him," Achara stated.
"I could have, but I didn't."
Oliver wanted to break the deadlock between the researchers and the soldiers. This was his most effective way to threaten them.
"This bastard was trying to get us killed. Let me ask why he did that." Oliver added.
He then turned towards the chief and walked forward. Though Achara attempted to block him, she couldn't intercept the blood tendrils that shot from Oliver's backpack.
The tendrils coalesced into a thick rope and wrapped around the screaming chief.
Swoosh
His body was pulled towards Oliver.
"Achara, many people died, and this man is one of the reasons. You shouldn't stop me." Oliver was showing blatant disregard for her.
'I knew he was trouble.' Achara said in her mind as she saw the blood rope dragging the chief towards them. But this time, she didn't stop when she noticed the blood rope also wrapping around the wound, preventing him from bleeding to death.
"You are wasting time talking with them. Let me deal with this." Oliver dragged the chief until he was right in front of him.
*Slap*
He slapped.
"Shut up and listen." He said grabbing the chin of the researcher. "Tell me who attacked the base. Or else I am going to kill every one of you here. And for your information, I am not with the military or any other organisation. Don't expect me to follow the rules and laws. I couldn't care less if you and your entire team died."
The chief in his panic forgot to scream. Finally, peace returned to the command centre.
*Slap*
"Speak b*stard."
Initially, Oliver was hiding his nature, acting like a good person when he came on the mission. But now, he didn't want to.
The bottled-up anger and irritation were slowly coming outside.
"Wait." Chief realised his predicament. His face showed pure horror as he spoke. "It was the…"
Before he could complete his words, a flash of light came from the other side of the command centre. Soon, a wave of heat and pressure rippled across the area.
*BOOM!*
Oliver felt his eardrums disintegrate as he realised an explosion seemed to have gone off from the side of the captured demon.
"Is it a bomb?" It was the last thought that came to his mind before he was thrown away to the entrance of the command centre.
After a short few seconds, Oliver's eyes opened.
"Ah!" He coughed and spat out the gravel and dust.
The explosion seemed to have rocked the entire outpost. Emergence lights were flickering as dust filled the air.
It was difficult for him to see.
'Aaah!' Oliver grimaced once he realised the condition of his body.
He couldn't move. Bones all over his body were broken and he was bleeding heavily from his head. If someone else was in his situation, they wouldn't have even woken up.
'I need to control the blood and heal.' Oliver said in his mind and moved blood in the blood sac.
Fortunately, he was capable of healing himself.
However, before he could do so, he found his body being grabbed by something. A wet leathery object was wrapping around his leg.
'Hmm.'
Oliver tried his best to title his head down and look.
'What!'
With the help of dim emergency lights, he saw a lump of flesh moving under his leg.
'What is it?' Oliver couldn't get a clear grasp on what it was.
Fortunately, by this time, he had healed his neck and arm muscles. Bearing the excruciating pain, he pushed his body away from it.
The tentacle of meat was moving slowly, so it couldn't keep up with him.
'What is it?' Oliver asked himself as he healed and moved away.
Suddenly, in his surroundings, he noticed the bodies of the soldiers and researchers being pulled away into the darkness by a similar tentacle of flesh. It seems like all of it was originating from something that was hiding in the darkness.
Even the team leader, a rank-C superhuman couldn't defend against it.
'Did it poison them?' He thought.
Biological poisons don't work on Oliver because of his ability to heal with blood. But it was not the case for everyone else.
Meanwhile, he also noticed Achara, who was struggling as the lump of meat tightened around her.
'I need to get up!' Oliver pushed his body to move.
However, his body was too weak.
Suddenly, he saw flashes of light.
Just like the ones he saw when they entered the tunnels.
Something was moving in his peripherals.
Oliver focused on it.
'A spectre.'
It was a tiny humanoid spectre that looked similar to a clump of clouds walking on two legs.
'A ghost.'
Oliver saw the spectre move fast through the rubbles towards him. The creature came just up to him and pulled him away from the lump of flesh that was chasing him.
'Is it trying to help?'
Oliver couldn't believe it.
Spectres are creatures made out of pure mana. To help someone, they would have to spend the mana in their body and if all the mana is lost, they would disappear forever.
So, why would it help him?
Oliver couldn't understand the actions of the tiny creature.
Suddenly, many tiny spectres came from the tunnels behind him and pulled him.
Initially, the force they were using to pull was barely enough to move him. But as time passed, more joined and they began to successfully pull him away.
Currently, about 100 tiny humanoid spectres were surrounding and helping him escape from the tentacle of flesh.
"Thanks." Oliver didn't know why, but he thanked them and used the time to heal his injuries.
His ear drum that was burst and the bones that shattered were the first to heal. By now, he could stand up and walk slowly.
Oliver was quickly regaining strength.
So, he paused and turned around to see if he could help the others.
But the spectres quickly blocked his path as if they are asking him to not go that way. They seemed to fear what was in the darkness behind him.
"Child." Suddenly, Oliver heard a voice in his head.
Unknown to him, a giant spectre appeared out of the wall and floated next to his head.
