On the way, James thought of how he's going to expose the evidence he has on the McCullens.
He can anonymously leak the evidence to the relevant authorities but he was aware that he can't just do it directly, as it won't have the effect he wants to achieve.
James wants to blow the whole thing up. He wants to make sure that after the evidence comes to light, that there will be no way way for them to hide. He wanted something bigger.
He wants to destroy the McCullens publicly — the kind of scandal that would leave them radioactive to everyone, a stain no amount of money or legal maneuvering could clean off.
And to do that, he needed the media. Not just a lazy news leak — he needed a hungry, desperate reporter, someone young, uncorrupted, chasing their big break.
Preferably a woman, James thought absentmindedly. Studies had shown female reporters got more attention for major exposes. Plus, a pretty face pushing the story would make it explode faster. And James can even pay her.
