Chapter 22 - Drifting Away

In the ignorance of living beings... a place stands firm, no one knows, no one really knows, they don't work for them.

Have you looked in the mirror? Ah... How beautiful you are, aren't you? But be careful, if you admire it too deeply. You see it, you see you, then see yourself again, and see again and again.

Is this real? Have you ever imagined if you have thousands, millions, or trillions of you, to the point where you really feel like you can't count them?

Then your steps fade, you don't know who's stepping, they're the same, they're similar. Is it the thousandth? Or the millionth? The one that blinks, the one that breathes.

Then you doubt yourself, you lose yourself, share all your soul to each of your selves for the umpteenth time, until infinity.

"Is he okay?"

"I think so, we've treated it as best we can."

Their eyes watched the figure of the tiny boy sleeping with neat bandages, Their faces were worried, but there was also a small hint of hope there.

Slowly the boy's eyelids twitched, their eyes widened, they let their heads see closer and clearer. The boy opened his eyes, his eyes were droopy, as if still losing consciousness.

"Hey, Noah, are you okay? Does anything still hurt?"

There, Fizen watched Noah closely, his eyes examining, tracing every wound that had been bandaged perfectly. Noah fell silent, then tears welled up in the corners of his eyes and he hugged Fizen.

Fizen gasped, then he felt Noah's body shaking violently, his hands coming down to caress the tiny figure, who looked more scared than anything.

"Hey? What happened?"

Noah was speechless, his eyes swept the surrounding area, his pupils trembled, his teeth gritted violently, and he opened his mouth, trying to speak.

"Where am I?"

Silence, the atmosphere was silent for a moment, their breaths caught in their throats. Jerry approached, still observing his indifferent, flat face.

"Don't worry, kid, you are in the school health unit, we found you near the park lying unconscious."

Noah's face was hit by something invisible, unknown, he lowered his face, seemingly not wanting to make eye contact.

"We won't ask you anything more, now let's rest in peace, while we leave."

Fizen stepped forward, but his sleeve was stopped by Noah, he was still looking down, then Noah looked into Jerry's eyes deeply, full of hope.

"Don't leave me... I don't want to be alone."

His voice was hoarse, but filled with a hopeful tone.

No matter how strong the ice is, it can be melted by fire, but not for Jerry, his face is so flat. His hand moved, raised to point at Queen, Cestele and Luna who were standing near his bed.

"They will take care of you."

Noah's eyes blinked a few times filled with innocence, while Queen, Cestele and Luna gave an awkward, lingering smile. Jerry's eyes remained filled with coldness, he turned around again, heading towards the exit.

Lyzky gave the girls a brief glance, as if making a code, Fizen, Danji and Yadz then followed Jerry, leaving the health room.

"Now, Noah, you can sleep, we will look after you until you sleep soundly, okay?"

Noah blinked, his body shaking again for a moment, then his mouth opened to say something.

"Who are you all?"

Queen gave a faint smile, her hands parted the blanket, and gave it to Noah, giving him warmth.

"We are Kama's friends, don't worry, we won't do anything to you."

Noah lowered his head until his face was completely covered, he pulled his blanket closer, then gave them a smile, like a typical innocent child.

"Then... I'll take a rest first, thank you."

He buried his head in the pillow, tilted his sleeping position and began to fall asleep soundly, the sound of his breathing was thin.

There they were, the girls nodding to each other, their gazes returning to Noah sleeping on his side, trying to watch over him, or at least that's what it looked like to them.

A match was struck, on the roof of the school, Danji lit his cigarette as usual, disturbing Fizen's sense of smell. He waved his hand as the cigarette smoke seemed to just penetrate his nose.

"Can you postpone smoking for now?"

Danji stared sharply, his gaze filled with indifference, he took a drag on his cigarette, and blew all the smoke into Fizen's face, making him cough.

"Damn it!! Did you do it on purpose?"

Danji's face remained blank, his hand drawn back to take a deep drag on his cigarette.

"Oh my gosh, stop it, you guys hold back your jokes."

Yadz blurted out, now raising his finger to point at the figure standing far in front of them. Jerry stood there, his hair fluttering, himself in the pouring rain, this was the first time they had seen Jerry so calm. Or maybe there was a storm inside him?

Lyzky's footsteps approached, seeing Jerry standing as calm as water, he opened his mouth, trying to break the reverie of the figure in front of him.

"Jerry... Are you okay? You've been looking weird since earlier."

Jerry turned his head, still maintaining his blank expression, he then gave a faint smile, like a puzzle that had just been played.

"He's too stupid, isn't he?"

His tone was full of scorn, his arms raised to fold across his chest, his eyes staring and tracing every building visible from the roof of the school.

"Isn't that right? He was too reckless."

Lyzky answered him, his tone dismissive, his shoulders raised in a gesture that supported his words.

Jerry got down from the side of the barrier, then walked in the opposite direction from Lyzky and the others, his thin smile still wide, as if he knew what would happen next. His wet clothes instantly dried as he reached the stairs to go down, he turned his head.

"Let us go, and let us witness, this story."

*

The girls began to feel sleepy, their eyelids heavy, and still maintained their consciousness firmly.

Their consciousness slowly faded, their bodies seemed to be rocked to get a much stronger sensation of sleepiness than before.

Something crept, from behind the mirror, something shone, someone behind the window grinned a little, his body was covered by a thick black robe. And the mirror enlarged like a controlled imagination.

Instantly it broke, shattered into pieces, the figure widened his eyes, although his face could not really be seen.

Jerry, Yadz, Danji and Fizen floated in midair, their eyes intently staring at the figure in front of them, a man wearing a pitch black robe.

"Were you the one who made Kama and Ray disappear?"

He raised his hand high, a piece of glass appeared, but before it could even fly, it just disappeared, without a trace. He widened his eyes in surprise, then let them look up at the person who did it.

The four of them were silent, no one did anything, but it was destroyed, it was an absolute impossibility. As if the presence of one of them was rejecting a direct attack.

"Why don't you show your true self? We know who you are, you better not act stupid."

Jerry's tone was calm, but it implied an emphasis, no, not an emphasis, but an absolute, undeniable command. His right hand carried a knife hidden behind him, then.

He disappeared, not really visible, the air swept thinly, and his figure sat right on Noah's bed asleep. The knife fell right near the helpless little boy's neck.

Am I right? Noah?"
