Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Teachers Come in Many Forms, Yet All the Same

"It's different from the Byakugan of the Hyuga Clan in Konoha. The Byakugan has a much greater observation range, whereas the Nijūgan's range only extends a short distance around the user."

"However, the Nijūgan's dynamic vision far surpasses the Byakugan. I haven't experienced the Byakugan myself—this is just what my grandfather told me."

"And, the Nijūgan of the Onime Clan has different talent levels."

Hozuki Mangetsu was enthusiastically sharing these obscure facts with Karatachi Yagura, while Onime Kaede simply nodded along in acknowledgment.

Mangetsu counted on his fingers as he explained, "Blue pupils have the lowest talent. They only grant transparent vision, basically what you're seeing now. The dynamic vision is incredibly strong!

Purple pupils are a step above. They can perceive chakra. Since genjutsu works by disturbing a person's chakra, any Onime Clan member with purple pupils or higher can immediately detect when someone is under a genjutsu!"

Yagura nodded in understanding. That made sense.

But if such a powerful bloodline limit existed, why had his past self been controlled by Uchiha Obito for so long?

If not for Ao obtaining and transplanting a Byakugan during the Third Great Ninja War, Kirigakure might have remained in the dark all the way until the Fourth Great Ninja War.

The original story never mentioned this dojutsu bloodline in Kirigakure.

Had they all been wiped out by Obito or the Third Mizukage?

"Next, we have him—the only golden-eyed Onime Clan member in decades! Onime Kaede!"

"That's stupid."

Kaede, clearly annoyed by Mangetsu's antics, took a step away from the two, avoiding being pointed at.

Unfazed, Mangetsu continued with excitement, "Within a certain range, he can share his vision with everyone! The only one in the entire Onime Clan!"

"Not just one person?"

"Nope! He can share it with a whole group." Mangetsu grinned before adding, "That is, if he has enough chakra."

A strategic weapon!

Yagura studied Kaede carefully.

No exaggeration—if one could share vision with those eyes, even an average ninja would be able to foresee their opponent's next move, whether they were about to cast a jutsu or execute a taijutsu maneuver. Genjutsu? Completely useless.

And for a ninja, if all their movements were predicted and countered by an opponent of similar strength, losing the element of surprise...

They would be dead.

"He's the only golden pupil?"

"Not sure."

Kaede, always reserved, shook his head. "But my family says... I'm the most talented in the clan. So probably, yes."

"Ohhh~"

The three of them arrived at Classroom 1 and stepped inside.

Yagura quickly ran to the second-to-last row by the window and took a seat—prime protagonist seating secured. Mangetsu and Kaede sat beside him, forming a row.

Several students were already inside, but each sat alone, deliberately keeping their distance from others.

Seeing Yagura, Mangetsu, and Kaede enter together as a group, many cast curious or surprised glances their way.

But the three of them weren't the type to care about other people's opinions. They continued chatting amongst themselves.

Before long, the classroom filled up as more students arrived.

Yagura looked around thoughtfully at the full classroom. "Everyone knows how Kirigakure's graduation exam works, and yet, so many parents still send their kids here?"

Mangetsu chuckled and countered, "What else would the children of a ninja village do if not become ninjas?"

A nation has villages, and within those villages, ninja villages are granted a certain degree of autonomy. But they are also the country's sole military force.

If Kirigakure failed to train strong ninjas to protect the Land of Water, the feudal lord would simply create a new village and establish a new military force.

Most of the major ninja villages had long solidified their power, but there were always exceptions.

Orochimaru establishing the Sound Village was a prime example.

So, for children born and raised in a ninja village, attending the Ninja Academy was a mandatory six-year education.

Understanding this, Yagura shrugged and casually said, "They could always sell ramen instead."

Ding-ling-ling-ling!!

The first class bell rang.

The trio stopped their conversation.

Yagura scanned the classroom but didn't recognize any familiar faces. Losing interest, he laid his head on the desk.

Where were Zabuza Momochi, Mei Terumi, and Kisame Hoshigaki now?

He wanted to gather all of them already (not really).

Bang!!

The door was violently thrown open!

A towering, muscle-bound man stomped in, his aura reminiscent of Morino Ibiki.

Seeing him, Yagura sighed even deeper, feeling hopeless about his next few years of school.

Not everyone was lucky enough to get an Iruka Umino... or an Irina Jelavić (from Assassination Classroom).

The man grabbed a piece of chalk and quickly scrawled three characters on the blackboard—'Yamanashi Osamu.'

"Sit down and shut up! You useless grunts!"

Yamanashi Osamu grinned savagely, his tiger-like eyes scanning the room. Any student caught in his gaze either lowered their head or looked away.

A jagged scar running beneath one eye made him look even more terrifying.

Some of the more timid girls were already in tears.

But there were still a few tough ones.

Osamu glanced at Yagura, Mangetsu, and Kaede, who remained unfazed, as well as a few other students who stubbornly met his gaze.

It was easy to tell which of these kids would actually make it to graduation.

Of course, those three grouped together? No way they were all making it through alive.

Bang!!!

He slammed his hand on the blackboard!

With a harsh glare, Osamu barked, "My name is Yamanashi Osamu! I'm a Chunin, and from today onward, I'll be your instructor!"

"My first impression of you all is terrible! The worst class I've ever had! The most pathetic batch of students yet!"

Yagura: "..."

This was way too familiar.

Also, old man, how many classes have you actually taught?

"Now, let's see... what would be a good welcome gift for you brats?"

Osamu scratched his stubbled chin, eyes shifting deviously.

Suddenly, as if remembering something interesting, he smacked his palm and feigned realization.

"Right! There's a girl taking the graduation exam today. Let's take you lot to witness it firsthand!"

This was obviously premeditated.

A perfect way to scare the fresh recruits.

But...

Yagura's expression grew serious. "The Blood Mist's graduation exam..."
