Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Fall of the Uzumaki

The country of the whirlpool, a land once occupied by the powerful Uzumaki clan recently destroyed by the coalition of several of the five great shinobi villages, a town that was once in great splendor was now nothing more than ruins, but among those ruins suddenly a great collision of wind blew up a large part of the rubble to reveal a group of people running everywhere inside the village.

The shinobi, mostly genin, entered checking the rubble while four people looked at the place with different expressions at the land that was once their home.

A twenty-five year old man looked at the passage calmly while his eyes reflected the nostalgia he felt for his land, he had black hair cut to neck height, his eyes were light gray and his skin tone was slightly pale, and his features were quite marked making him look a little older. Dressed in jounin clothing and a ninja bandana from the village made his status clear.

-They destroyed everything just like Mr. Yami had mentioned- said the man with a sigh of annoyance at the situation.

Next to him a man of about twenty-three years old with blond hair, green eyes and pale skin with slightly delicate features put his hand on his friend's shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.

-Don't torment yourself Kazuo we had orders not to interfere and save as many people as we could once we saw that the situation got out of hand- said the blond while his friend looked at the place now with a slight frown.

-Renji and Kurogane join the search for survivors please- said Kazuo while the other two people nodded to move at a much faster speed to another area of the ruins - What do you think of all this, Ryoichi?

-Things went much bigger than we expected Kazuo – said Ryoichi calmly while crossing his arms – we had nothing to do, we were about 8 thousand shinobi against about 20 thousand from several different nations, we had everything to lose.

-The attack was a surprise, but it was surely because of one of the spies within the village who knew when it was best to attack – said Kazuo while sitting on one of the rubble – What would have happened if Mr. Yami let us count on the support of the 10?

-The 10 are very busy right now Kazuo and you know it – said Ryoichi leaning on a wall – Surely with the support of the 10 we could have repelled some of the damage, but it wasn't the time for them to appear and we already knew that the destruction of the village was inevitable.

-Okay I guess – said Kazuo giving up thinking about what would have happened if he could have intervened – How many civilians do you think we could find?

-I highly doubt we'll even find a civilian in good condition – said Ryoichi looking at the ruined state of the village – Surely of the around 50 thousand civilians at the time of the attack less than 5 thousand are still alive, and it's likely that they are under the ruins or seriously injured.

-They burned a large part of the buildings to steal everything, but they really killed even the children – said Kazuo with great sorrow for the fate of his people.

-Saving the most we can would be more than enough – said Ryoichi as he saw his friend's tears without any change in his expression – after we take care of the survivors take them to the temporary base – said Ryoichi to a chunin at his side to give the order to the rest.

-This is really serious – suddenly said the voice of a twenty-year-old boy who appeared at high speed near the two.

-Tell me one thing Kurogane, how many are estimated to be safe or at least treatable? – said Kazuo as he saw his friend return from searching for civilians nearby.

-Around 4 to 7 thousand civilians – said Kurogane the young man who had an even calmer look than Ryoichi as he gave a letter to Kazuo – Yami sends it to you.

Kazuo's expression suddenly changed to a more serious one suddenly forgetting what was happening, a quick reading of the letter and then burning it Kazuo let out a sigh of satisfaction.

- What did Yami ask us for this time? – said Ryoichi calmly and curious about his partner's expression.

-The medical team with the light support will be at the camp in a few hours to treat the wounded – said Kazuo standing up while gesturing to Kurogane so that he would leave them alone – besides, there is a new order for you Ryoichi.

-I suppose it has to do with the next step after all this – said Ryoichi already expecting this whole situation.

-You will have to prepare to go to the capital of the country to meet with the daimayo – said Kazuo calmly – the details will be brought by light and he will give them to you directly.

-Okay, it was expected that we would meet with the leader of the country after this place was destroyed – said Ryoichi as he approached Kazuo – let's see if we can find someone.

- What do you think it could be about? – Kazuo said curious about his partner's hypothesis as they both moved to a different area from where the rest were.

-Surely it will be to report that there are survivors of the attack – said Ryoichi with his gaze fixed on a destroyed bridge – maybe it's time for us to take a more active role at least in the country.

-I hope so, because if we don't take action on the matter the country will possibly enter into crisis without the presence of the village of the whirlpools and the Uzumaki clan – said Kazuo as they both stopped at the bridge to look for civilians.

-Don't you have hopes Kazuo, it's just a supposition of mine – said Ryoichi shaking his head at his optimistic friend.

-I don't have hopes, but I'm sure that Yami will take this opportunity to advance the plans – said Kazuo as he lifted a large amount of rubble to look for someone.

-If you put it like that, maybe it's probable – said Ryoichi with doubts about what could happen.
