Micah ran a hand through his wet face, frustrated by his lack of composure earlier. He felt simply weak, unable to face those male leads head-on.
He needed to get leverage on them through some underhanded methods.
He sighed and wrapped the bandages clumsily on his head. Taking one last look at his pale face, he turned and headed back to his bed.
He reached for his phone, realising the battery was still dead. He looked at Aria, who was busy typing something on her phone.
"Second sister, do you have my charger?"
Aria tossed him a casual glance before rummaging through a small bag.
"Yeah, Mum and I brought some clothes and necessities for you."
She pulled out the charger and handed it over, her brow furrowing as she touched Micah's cold fingers.
"Thanks."
Micah mumbled, plugging in his phone.
As the screen blinked to life, the wheels in his mind began to turn. Seeing Silas here triggered a thought.
If Silas was working in this hospital, then maybe Darcy's mother was here too.
The probability was low, but the thought persisted in his mind.
Even though his mother had frequent hospital visits, what were the odds that she would be admitted at the same time as him?
Still, Micah wanted to try his luck. Maybe he could see them from afar…
He knew he should not jump to conclusions, but his grip on rationality had been slipping since the moment he saw Silas Durant.
His resolve to wait for the DNA test results was growing weaker by the second. The names, the settings... they all matched too well and pointed in one direction.
He had brushed it off as a coincidence, a twisted joke by some writer who had taken inspiration from the names of all the Ramsy family. But now? Now, meeting one of the male leads had shaken his belief.
Micah drummed his fingers against the bed rail, waiting for his phone to regain functionality.
If he wanted to find out about Darcy's mother, he had an easy way to do it. As the young master of the Ramsy Family, he had enough influence to ask for the patient records under some excuses. But the risk was high.
What if it came to light that he had known he was not the real son and had hidden from everyone?! Wouldn't that make him a true villain?
He was not sure if he should reveal the truth sooner or later.
His mind was too chaotic to decide what was the best course of action.
Truthfully, he was still shaken up about not being the true son of his parents.
His fingers clenched around his phone in despair.
His original reason for charging his phone was not just to surf the net or pass the time.
He needed to note down everything he remembered from the book. He was afraid of forgetting details or some crucial parts.
And about Darcy's mother…
If she was really here, then he wanted to see her. Was he similar to her? What about the sister? If she saw him, would she recognise him as her son?
Visiting the neurology unit under the pretence of looking for a doctor wouldn't be difficult. If he wore the hospital clothes, it would be even more convincing.
Having sorted his plan for the day, Micah began to type everything he recalled from the book.
Elina Palmer stood at the door, her sharp eyes examining her son, who was concentrating on his mobile phone. Micah looked troubled, his brows slightly drawn as he fumbled with the device. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she exchanged a look with Aria.
Without a word, the two slipped out of the room.
The soft hum of nurses chatting followed them down the hall until they reached the lounge.
Reaching for a cup, Elina turned on the electric kettle.
"Tell me. Why is he acting so strangely?" Elina asked, her voice full of concern.
" Do you think it is because of yesterday's event? Falling down in front of his crush?! Would that make him this downcast?!"
Aria leaning against the counter, grabbed a banana and peeled absentmindedly.
"I doubt it. Even though he does have a bit of idol baggage, if anything, he would be more angry than dispirited."
Elina exhaled, tapping her finger against the ceramic mug.
"Then, what do you think it is?"
Aria took a slow bite before answering.
"I think something else had happened. Maybe someone had made fun of his major in uni... you know how sensitive he is about it..."
"And How do we find out what?! Should I ask his friends?"
Elina said.
"No, that would be a total disaster! Let older sister talk to him. You know he will be more honest with her."
Aria suggested.
Elina considered it as she poured the boiling water onto the mug. Dipping the tea bag into it, she said.
"Yeah. You are right. He does have a certain fear and respect for Willow."
"Exactly. If anyone can get him to talk, it's her."
Aria nodded, tossing the banana peel into a nearby bin.
"I'll call her. See when she can come."
Elina agreed, taking a sip from her freshly made tea.
The lounge fell into silence. Elina looked out the window, as her thoughts drifted to her son, filling her with worry.
From the outside, some might think of Micah Ramsy as a problematic spoiled kid. But within the Ramsy family, Micah was the apple of their eyes. His infectious energy, his genuine feelings, and the way he spoke his mind without hesitation, all made their boring monotonous lives more vibrant and colourful.
So when the ball of energy became eerily quiet and listless, the entire family took notice.
The First to sense it had been Albert Ramsy. The Old man's call last night had been not just about informing them of Micah's regained concessions, but also pointing out that something was up with him.
Now, after witnessing Micah's strange behaviour the whole morning, Elina and Aria were sure that the old man was right.
Micah's state of mind was alarmingly concerning.
His reaction to the doctor, a stranger, was undoubtedly a sign of severe aversion to physical contact with the man. Even though the doctor ignored it, Elina caught all the subtle changes in Micah.
"Do you think… some pervert…"
Elina couldn't finish her words. The mere thought of that scenario was unbearable.
Aria snapped her head in shock.
"No way!"
Elina looked at her startled daughter and shook her head.
"Yeah… I think exhaustion had muddled my brain."
On the other hand, Aria recalled the strange way Micah had looked at the doctor's back.
She had also noticed the red scratch on the doctor's neck. It was too obvious.
Aria's hand became damp with sweat. She spoke, her voice trembling.
"Mum…"
Elina's heart sank as she caught the change in Aria.
The two could see the dread in each other's eyes.
