Micah's heartbeat drummed in his ears as he stood between Darcy and Archie in the cramped storage room. The only light came from the streetlights in front of the old gym. Too late, Micah realised he was trapped between the second male lead and the protagonist. The very thing he had agonised over all afternoon. Micah tried to draw a slow breath, but Archie's tall and imposing figure loomed on his right, and that cedar-and-leather scent rolling off the man filled his lungs instead. Instinct pushed Micah left toward Darcy. He took a tiny half step, just enough for his arm to touch Darcy's side. He wanted to be anywhere but next to Archie, that treacherous second male lead.
Darcy noticed Micah's shifting, but he didn't move. Their shoulders brushed at first, then he leaned back a little, overlapping them. If he stretched his hand, he could easily pull Micah into his embrace.
