Chapter 15 - The Mysterious Affliction

Lin Xia frowned as she stared at her hand in disbelief. A moment ago, it had been completely fine, yet now she couldn't feel a thing.

She tried again, attempting to move her fingers, but to no avail. The numbness creeping up her arm was becoming increasingly severe.

"Secretary Jiang, please drive me to the hospital. I don't know what's going on with my hand—I can't move it at all," Lin Xia said, her voice laced with unease.

Secretary Jiang, noticing the seriousness of the situation, wasted no time in assisting Lin Xia out of her chair and toward the elevator. As they descended, Lin Xia clenched her left hand into a fist, trying to suppress the growing sense of panic.

Soon, the car pulled out of the business center, heading straight for the First People's Hospital of Jinghai City.

Inside the car, Lin Xia struggled to pull out her cell phone with her functional left hand. She tapped on a contact and brought the phone to her ear.

"Hello? What's up, Big Sister? Shouldn't you be busy at the company right now? What's with the sudden call?" Lin Wanying's voice came through, casual and relaxed.

At that moment, Lin Wanying was leisurely snacking on melon seeds in her office. It was a rare quiet day at the hospital, with few patient consultations scheduled. However, her moment of peace was immediately shattered by her sister's next words.

"Wanying, I can't seem to feel my hand."

Lin Wanying's expression froze.

"What did you say?" she asked, suddenly sitting upright.

"My right hand has lost all sensation. I can't move it at all. Are you in the hospital now? I'm on my way over," Lin Xia continued, a cold sweat forming on her forehead.

Lin Wanying's relaxed demeanor vanished in an instant. Tossing aside her melon seeds, she stood up hurriedly, her tone now filled with concern.

"What?! That sounds serious! Big Sister, what exactly is going on?!"

"I don't know. That's why I'm heading to the hospital. I'll wait until I get checked out," Lin Xia responded, glancing at her lifeless right hand. A sense of unease twisted in her stomach.

"Alright, don't panic. I'll be waiting for you at the hospital entrance."

As Lin Xia's limousine pulled up to the hospital's front doors, Lin Wanying was already standing outside, anxiously awaiting her arrival. Lin Xia was not just any patient—she was the right hand of the Lin family. If something were to happen to her, it would deal a heavy blow to the entire family's business empire.

The moment the car stopped, Lin Wanying rushed forward, opening the door and helping Lin Xia out.

"Big Sister, come with me. I've already arranged everything for you," she said, leading Lin Xia inside.

As the medical director of the hospital, Lin Wanying naturally had privileges. She had prepared everything in advance, ensuring Lin Xia's examination could be conducted without delay.

Lin Xia was swiftly taken for tests. The X-ray and neurological examinations took time, but in the meantime, Lin Wanying led her to the VIP patient lounge to rest.

After a while, Lin Wanying returned with an elderly man in a white coat. His long white beard and dignified aura made him appear quite distinguished. He was none other than Professor Lu Guang, the most authoritative expert in neurology at the hospital.

"Professor Lu, this is my elder sister. Please examine her condition," Lin Wanying said respectfully.

Professor Lu nodded, his wise eyes studying Lin Xia. "No need to worry. Since it involves the Lin family, I will do my best."

Although he maintained a calm demeanor, Professor Lu knew the weight of this situation. The Lin family was one of the hospital's largest benefactors, making generous donations each year. If something were to happen to Lin Xia, the implications would be significant.

"Let me take your pulse first. Please extend your hand."

With great difficulty, Lin Xia used her left hand to lift her right arm onto the table. Professor Lu placed his fingers on her wrist, closing his eyes as he concentrated.

A few seconds later, his eyes shot open, a flicker of disbelief flashing across his face. His brows furrowed deeply, and he carefully rechecked her pulse multiple times.

"How is it, Professor Lu? How is my sister's hand?" Lin Wanying asked, noting the strange look on his face.

Professor Lu slowly straightened up, shaking his head in confusion. "This is… highly unusual."

"What do you mean?" Lin Xia asked urgently.

"Your meridians are in complete chaos, and your pulse is extremely erratic. In all my years of practicing medicine, I have never encountered a case like this," he admitted.

A wave of panic surged through Lin Xia's chest. Even Professor Lu, the most experienced neurologist in Jinghai City, had never seen such a condition before?

"Is my hand… ruined?" she whispered.

"Don't jump to conclusions just yet. We should wait for the X-ray results. With modern medicine, I believe we can find a way to treat this," Professor Lu reassured her. "I'll check if the results are ready."

With that, he turned and left the lounge, leaving the two sisters alone.

Lin Xia clenched her left fist tightly. A deep fear gnawed at her. She had only just started taking control of the Lin family's business, preparing to make a name for herself. If her right hand was truly useless now, how could she continue?

"Big Sister, don't overthink it," Lin Wanying said, though even she seemed uncertain.

However, after a moment of silence, a thought suddenly crossed her mind. Her eyes widened as she recalled something.

"Wait a minute…" she muttered. "Do you remember what Yang Mo said before he left the Lin family?"

Lin Xia's expression darkened.

"You mean when he told me that my right hand would fail within three days?"

Lin Wanying nodded. "At the time, we didn't believe him… but today, your right hand really has become paralyzed. How did he know?"

A cold chill ran down Lin Xia's spine. The more she thought about it, the more unsettled she became.

"How could he have known this would happen?" she murmured.

Lin Wanying hesitated before voicing her suspicion. "Could it be… poison?"

Lin Xia's face twisted in anger. "That wretched Yang Mo! How dare he poison me?!"

"That… seems a bit extreme," Lin Wanying said hesitantly. "Even if he resents us, I don't think he'd go that far…"

"Then how else do you explain this?! How did he know exactly when this would happen?" Lin Xia snapped, her fury growing. "That bastard must have done something to me! When I recover, I'll make sure he pays for this!"

Before Lin Wanying could respond, Professor Lu returned, holding the X-ray results.

"What did the scans show, Professor?" Lin Wanying asked, feeling anxious.

Professor Lu sighed and placed the X-rays on the table. "Take a look."

Lin Wanying picked them up, carefully examining them. "I… don't see anything wrong?" she said, confused.

"That's the problem," Professor Lu said gravely. "I don't see anything wrong either. And neither do the other top professors in this hospital."

Lin Xia's heart sank. If there was no visible problem, then how was this happening to her?

What exactly had Yang Mo done to her?
