Chapter 28 - Shadows of the Lin Family

"What about Third Sister? Should we tell her about this?" Lin Ruan hesitated, her expression filled with unease. "Isn't she recently involved in developing the trauma cream? This concerns the lifeblood of the Lin family."

Lin Xia shook her head. "It's better not to disturb her. The Lin family's business is heavily invested in the pharmaceutical industry. Back then, our father, Lin Andong, established our empire after developing a special cold medicine. Once it received government approval, it was mass-produced and distributed across the country. That single medicine propelled the Lin family to its current status."

"The Lin family's industry doesn't just include pharmaceuticals," Lin Ruan added. "We also have medical devices, private hospitals, and more. But Big Sister, do you really think our trauma cream will succeed?"

Lin Xia sighed, deep in thought. "I can't say for sure. But seeing how confident Father is, it's likely possible. After all, back when he first developed the special cold medicine, no one believed in him either."

"But Dad never studied medicine. How did he manage to develop it?" Lin Ruan furrowed her brows. "I still don't understand it to this day."

There was something Lin Andong had never told his daughters. Many years ago, he had stumbled upon an ancient medical text containing formulas for treating common ailments. Most of the text was too faded to decipher, but one particular formula for treating colds was remarkably clear. Holding a skeptical attitude, he had tried replicating it—and to his astonishment, it worked. Over the years, Lin Andong had been attempting to restore the other formulas, many of which were missing just one or two key ingredients. It was a painstaking process, but he remained determined.

"According to Father, once the trauma cream is successfully developed, it can heal any wound within a day—without leaving a single scar," Lin Xia continued. "Just imagine how revolutionary that would be!"

Lin Ruan's eyes widened. "That sounds… unbelievable."

"It's a miracle medicine, especially for women who long for flawless skin. Scars from childbirth, congenital marks—if they can be completely removed, this product will be in unimaginably high demand. Once it launches, our family's status will skyrocket. We could even join the ranks of the top elite families."

Lin Ruan exhaled slowly, letting the weight of the conversation settle in. "But… can it really be developed successfully? It sounds too good to be true."

Lin Xia shrugged. "Let Third Sister worry about that. For now, our priority is confirming whether Lin Coen is truly our father's biological son. I refuse to let an outsider inherit our family's wealth."

Her voice was firm, filled with determination.

"How do we go about it?" Lin Ruan asked.

"We do a paternity test," Lin Xia said without hesitation. "We just need to collect hair samples from Father and Lin Coen. Then, we'll secretly get the test done at a hospital out of town."

Lin Ruan nodded, but she still looked unsettled. "And if it turns out Lin Coen really is an illegitimate child… what then?"

Lin Xia's gaze darkened. "Then we'll make sure he never gets his hands on the Lin family's fortune."

The two sisters exchanged a look, silently sealing their agreement, before hurriedly leaving to put their plan into action.

Meanwhile, Yang Mo returned to school, his pockets filled with more money than he had ever seen in his life. The sheer amount—30 million dollars—made his heart race with excitement. It was an amount he had never even dared to dream of having.

He had never expected Lin Xia to actually hand over the money so easily. But it was a clean break, and that was what mattered most to him. With this money, he could change his life entirely. No more worrying about tuition. No more struggling to pay for food or housing. No more back-breaking work at construction sites just to make ends meet.

Thirty million dollars.

For a moment, Yang Mo didn't even know where to start.

After mulling over it for half a day, he finally decided on his first purchases—new clothes and a better place to live. The apartment he and his adoptive parents lived in was rundown and inconvenient. It lacked an elevator, and while they were still in good health now, they wouldn't always be. A better home meant a better future for them.

His thoughts were interrupted when a hand suddenly patted his shoulder.

"Hey, Yang Mo!" A familiar voice called out.

Yang Mo turned around to see his chubby friend, affectionately known as Fatty Wu, grinning at him.

"What's with that dumb smile on your face? Did you win the lottery or something?" Fatty Wu joked, nudging him playfully.

Yang Mo blinked, realizing he had been grinning without even noticing. "Uh… something like that."

Fatty Wu raised an eyebrow. "For real? Damn, don't tell me you actually won big? I was just joking!"

Yang Mo chuckled. "Not exactly. But let's just say I don't have to worry about money anymore."

Fatty Wu's eyes widened. "Holy crap, are you serious?! That's insane! Anyway, I need a favor from you. The school's hosting an outdoor movie night tonight. Can you save me a seat?"

"Why don't you just go there yourself?" Yang Mo asked, confused.

Fatty Wu rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Well… I've got a dinner date. Someone important."

Yang Mo raised an eyebrow. "You? A date? Who's the lucky girl?"

Fatty Wu's face flushed, and he quickly glanced around before lowering his voice. "Keep your voice down, man! It's not Ling Qingluo or anything… but I do have someone special. I'll tell you, but you can't spread it around. I'm actually dating—"

And just like that, Yang Mo found himself unexpectedly roped into Fatty Wu's personal drama.

As the night unfolded, Yang Mo couldn't help but think—his life had just taken a drastic turn, and he wasn't sure where this path would lead him. But one thing was certain: he had no intention of ever looking back.
