DoorMan #27
Earthen Bachelor Pad, Seattle [January 19, 2008]

Making tea just the way Wong liked it, made with extravagant materials like milk and tea leaves from Ta-Lo, he popped his head out of the kitchen and asked Wong who was busy looking at his phone, "So, what brings you to this side of the world? I thought the West Coast was Drumm's responsibility. Last I heard, he didn't like other Sorcerers treading on his territory unless the Sorcerer Supreme deemed it necessary,"
Handing a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, atleast that's what it said on the label, to Wong, he plopped down on the sofa in front of him and then deadpanned at Wong who was busy on his phone, his very much advanced and decked out smartphone.
He shook his head at the signs of addiction. Elders these days, always glued to their screens.
Snapping his fingers in front of Wong who absentmindedly sipped his orange juice, he hollered, "Hello?! Anybody home?" He might or might not have released a slightly aimed air blast that knocked the phone out of Wong's hand and then another smaller door to release another jet of air that pushed the phone into his waiting hands.
"Eh? Eh? Neat trick, right?" He smiled toothily at the man who was his father in all but name and all he received in return was a disapproving stare.
"Oh, come on! You have to admit it was cool. I have been working on my micro control and learning how to position my Doors to achieve optimum force application. It is hard! Do you know how hard it is to practice this stuff whilst having so many other things going on in my life? It's not like I just have to work a single job. Oh, I am Wong, I love books and Beyonce, and I will scare the bejesus out of you by simply staring at you."
After all that mocking and ranting, all Wong did was stare at him whilst sipping his orange juice. He shuddered at the eye contact and promptly threw the phone back at him, such was the strength of the Wong strength.
Sighing, he leaned back onto the couch and closed his eyes, waiting for the Old Man to be done with his social media and stuff. Meanwhile, he kept his senses peeled just in case something happened next door. His brows furrowed as he heard nothing, not even a single peep, even after taking a risk and cycling his CHI at higher levels.
"What's wrong?" He opened his eyes to see Wong looking at him with concerned eyes.
Smirking, "Oh, now, you are interested? Where were you when I was in so much trouble last night?"
He'd confirmed with Jin'ya, there were no active bugs in his place and the Wakandans had oddly left with no sign of any Wakakndan personnel in the entire city. Something must have happened and he was kinda afraid that Jin'Ya's mental tampering was not as foolproof as they had expected it to be, so for now, he was safe in his apartment but who knows for how long?
"What happened?" Wong asked in a serious tone and he sighed, dropping the act, "Nothing to worry about. I just got a new tenant for my home yesterday. I'll introduce you two later on,"
"I see." The man simply said and went right back to his phone.
"Oh, come on!" He said and just did the same trick with his Air Doors again, leaving the phone on the kitchen counter, out of reach for both of them. Spreading his hands at the now irate Wong, "Well, it's out of my hands now. It's not like my hands can reach that far."
"Now, why don't you tell me what you are doing so far away from home? I thought you had East Asia this year in your rotation?"
Kamar Taj had a finite number of Masters and even less so when it came to Masters on the same level as Wong or Mordo. They simply did not have as many strong Masters as they had Masters on various topics. Ever since the Ancient One became the SOrcerer SUpreme, the need for Masters to be ready to die and be an all around combat expert had dropped significantly.
That meant that the criteria to become a Master was also lowered. Nowadays, as long as you were proficient in one field of Sorcery, could prove yourself capable of defending yourself and some people around you, and had the ability to cast portals, you were eligible to become a Master, given the peer review passed through.
So, many of the Masters of Kamar Taj now simply had high talent in some areas of Sorcery, instead of being the strongest combat master. That way, the KAmar Taj covered a lot of land in mystica hotspots, mystical countries, and the mundane countries as well.
The sword of Damocles that was the Ancient One simply stopped most attackers from even touching Kamar Taj affiliated Masters or even the multiple sanctuary properties built around the planet.
That did not mean that they could afford to be lax so the Ancient One, along with four other Masters of the top calibre were assigned an area around the world, changed on a yearly basis that they patrolled regularly, to make sure that Kamar Taj's strength was projected all around the world.
According to his knowledge, Wong was not assigned to the West Coast, only East Asia which was near his home as well as a hotspot of odd magical activity pertaining to longevity, immortality, and vampiric cults.
Wong replied, "What? Can't I just come to visit?"
He shrugged and scurried back into the kitchen as the ten minute mark was finally reached, as was necessary for this particular brand of a combination of tea leaves and milk, to make the best tea, "You haven't before. You're more than welcome to visit. It's just that I am leaving in a few days anyway."
"Oh, yeah, your summer internship. How is the living situation? I am sure we have some Kamar Taj properties even in that place," Wong said as he turned around to look at him through the kitchen window.
Stirring the tea to let out of the CHI bubbles that had accumulated just below the surface, he tasted the tea and closed his eyes as the heavenly tea slid down his throat, making him feel beyond energized.
Pouring the tea, he scoffed, "Yeah, right. I am getting housing in a complex that can only be called five star. The last time I stayed at a Kamar Taj property, I had to burn my own fire in Iceland because it was so cold and the heating enchantments had broken down because nobody had gone there in ages,"
Handing the cup to Wong who took it as if it was a priceless treasure, he plopped down onto the sofa and began sipping on his tea. Ah, it was always a great experience to drink this tea.
It was nice that Jin'Ya did not particularly care for tea, otherwise his own personal store would have been raided a hundred times over by now.
Man, going to Ta-Lo and saving their Water Dragon was one of the best things he had done here. Speaking of Ta-Lo, "Hey, I have some work to do at Ta-Lo, will you come?"
Now that Shuri was out of the city and in his apartment, he could work on stuff he had to finish before leaving for LA. Something must have happened for them to leave so abruptly because, according to Jin'Ya, he could not sense Shuri's particular brand of brain and Astral Signature anywhere on the West Coast, meaning they had probably gone home.
It was fascinating to confirm that Shuri was an evolved human, an advanced version of humanity, with a brain that could not be matched by any other Homo-Sapien on the planet. Not even Tony's. Centuries of exposure to Vibranium had evolved her line, resulting in the birth of the sharpest mind on the planet.
Her soul itself was different from the rest of the humans, according to her Astral Signature which was confirmed by Jin'Ya. He could probably track her across the planet now but the dragon did not like mucking up his senses by dipping into the Astral Realm on the planet too much, so he refrained from asking the dragon about her location.
He was just thankful that he could now get the extra meat supply from Ta-Lo. Speaking of the Ta-Lo trip, Wong was too busy enjoying the, according to what most people would confirm, heavenly tea, to reply to his request for a ride along.
Alas, only he was authorised to open portals from their side to Ta-Lo, so he had to do the whole song and dance about portals every time he needed to go there.
It was nice that the Water Dragon did not need CHI topping up every day or something. Once every six months was enough for the Dragon to heal himself and tighten the seal every year.
He wondered what kind of effect it was having on the Mandarin, the real one, with all the Ten Rings. Well, something to do later on.
Wasn't Shang-Chi working as a valet in LA? Maybe he could drop in and get his Martial Arts skill evaluated, or elevated, depending on how much of a beatdown he would get from the expert Martial Artist.
It would be nice to learn something while he was in LA, and not just spend his time working on shiny tech that was probably going to be used in some weapons, the division of which Tony was going to shut down in a couple of months when he came back.
