Nikolas felt his heart drumming loudly against his rib cage, his body out of his control as his gaze locked in on her, with intensity.
His pulse accelerating as though on steroids, his chest tightening with a strange pull, sending chilling waves of shivers down his spine.
There it was again—that nagging sense of familiarity that tugged at him earlier.
Selene moved with effortless grace and precision, her two piece nude pantsuit hugging every curve of her perfect body in a way that seemed almost unfair to most ladies.
Her hair tied up in a sleek ponytail that accentuated the delicate curve of her cheekbones.
Her long legs graced with nude heels clicked against the marble floor with quiet confidence.
"Good morning, Mr. Darkos," she greeted, her lips curled up into a firm yet polite smile, that brightened up her heart shaped face.
His gaze lingered on her a second too long before he responded. "Good morning."
"I came to drop off these files," she said, placing a neat stack on his desk. "Helen suggested I deliver them personally since I made several corrections—the kind the previous manager overlooked."
Nikolas nodded, watching her lips move as she spoke, barely registering a single word from those deliciously full lips.
The scent of her floral perfume drifted toward him, filling his nostrils, soft and intoxicating, that curled into his senses, making his pulse race. he could feel goosebumps swell up on his hands good thing he was fully clothed.
She labeled the files one by one, her voice steady and professional. But all he could focus on was the way her presence seemed to fill the room, igniting a strange pull deep within him.
His fingers tightened against the desk. his muscles tense. Why the hell did she feel so familiar?
When she turned to leave, he felt a pit of disappointment formed in his stomach.
His gaze followed her as she walked away, her hips swaying with effortless grace, teasing him.
His forehead furrowed into a suspicious frown. There was no way he could have met her before, and he had forgotten. Not possible.
His stomach tightened as The door shut behind her, breaking the spell.
The sound of Ricky's low whistle pulled him back to reality.
Ricky smirked "Now that's one hell of a distraction".
An intense heat of irritation flared in Nikolas' chest. The intensity of it took him by surprise.
"Don't," he warned, shooting his best friend a sharp look.
Heat slammed into Nikolas' chest, a sharp, irrational rage.the feeling so intense that it snatched away his breath.
His fingers tingling with anger curled into fists beneath the desk as a dangerous thought clouded his brain—punching his best friend square in the face, wouldn't be a bad idea.
He exhaled slowly through his mouth, as if trying to push the irritation out of his system.
"Don't," he bit out, shooting him a sharp look.
Ricky grins, then gazes at Nikolas curiously, raising his hand in surrender. "Relax. I won't move in on her—unless you plan to?"
Nikolas's jaw tightened. "Nobody is moving on her," he grated through clutched teeth, every muscle in his body tensed.
"she's off limits."The words came out harsher than he intended.
Ricky arched a brow. "Whatever you say, boss." Eyeing him closely.
Nikolas inhaled sharply, letting the tension ease of his body, mentally scolding himself for reacting that way but the thought of Ricky touching selene produced a sour taste in him mouth.
"I'm sorry, man," he said, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.
Ricky chuckled. "It's fine. I was just messing with you. But… I did see the way you looked at her." His smirk widened. "The way your body tensed when she got close."
Anxious that Ricky's remark had hit close to home, he decided to change the subject. "Don't you have clients to attend to, Mr lawyer?" he scoffs. "More damsels to rescue."
Ricky stretched lazily, getting up"You're right. In fact, I have a date with my mystery damsel."
"How are you going to find her with a journal?" Nikolas asked, shaking his head. This is going to be a tough one for even you to find,"
Ricky chuckled. "You underestimate my skills. I can find anyone."
Nikolas smirked at his friend. "You still haven't found that girl from five years ago."
He and Ricky have spent years trying to track the mysterious woman from that night, only to be hit with a dead end.it was as if she had vanished into thin air—as though she only existed in his brain.
Whoever she was,she didn't want to be found.
For the first time, Ricky hesitated. "Friendly advice? focus on the woman standing right in front of you," he said, picking up his bag as he exited the office.
Ricky's words landed heavier than he had expected.
As the door clicked shut,Now alone with his thoughts,Nikolas stands up and moves around to his chair as he sits, replaying Ricky's last sentence in his mind.
The woman in front of him...
His gaze landed on the file stacked up on his desk but he could only picture her face—Selene king.
His fingers drummed slightly against the desk.his chest tightened, with a burning sensation he wasn't sure he liked.
The sharp buzz of the intercom pulled Nikolas out from his musings, shaking his head as he tried to concentrate.
His finger pressed down on the device button, the voice of his secatery echoed through the speakers.
"Mr Darkos, Mr Frank from Sterlings holdings is at the waiting room"
Nikolas exhaled sharply, running a hand over his face."Send him in".
Leaning back on his chair, his office now drenched in silence his brain echoed with wander to The woman in front of him.
The woman who made his pulse stutter and his mind restless.
Selene King—— He had seen her before. He was sure of it. But where? And why the hell did she have such an unshakable grip on him?
