Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Gaining Little Green

The belongings of the opponent were a mixed assortment there were gold and silver treasures commonly used in the mortal world, as well as magic stones frequently traded in the wizarding world.

What surprised Lynn even more was that the man also carried two books of wizarding knowledge.

One was a book on basic breathing techniques, while the other was an old and tattered family journal a relic left behind by the Greenwood Earl for his descendants.

The Greenwood Province, where the Emerald Island Great Forest was located, was closely tied to this Greenwood Earl. In fact, at the height of his power, he had complete control over the entire province.

However, despite his great achievements, the Greenwood Earl was not born into nobility. Quite the opposite he was born into a family of slaves.

His story was a legendary tale of rising from slavery to eventually becoming an earl and ruling over an entire province.

Unfortunately, the journal contained very little information about his past.

Only a single page seemed to be personally narrated by the Greenwood Earl himself.

He mentioned that the reason he was able to achieve his success was due to a fortuitous encounter in the Emerald Island Great Forest.

His description of that place was full of contradictions:

"That place is both paradise and hell. If I could return to my youth, I would never set foot there again, even if it meant giving up the chance to become an earl forever."

The Greenwood Earl was extremely reserved about this part of his past, offering only the briefest account.

The rest of the family journal mostly contained trivial matters related to mortal kingdoms.

Lynn quickly scanned the cluttered content with his mental power, filtering out the irrelevant information and focusing on anything valuable.

Before long, he managed to piece together a complete picture from the information gathered from the white-haired man.

It turned out that this was a classic case of noble heirs fighting over their inheritance.

The white-haired man and his employer were direct descendants of the Greenwood Earl, and in their struggle for the Earl's supernatural knowledge, they had even resorted to open conflict.

The two missions originating from Red Rock City, which involved sending people and goods to the Pale Moon Plateau, had been commissioned by the same employer. One mission was to transport a person, while the other was to transport goods.

Lynn knew this because the white-haired man's faction had realized the connection and thus launched simultaneous attacks on both groups.

From the white-haired man's records, the person being transported in the other mission appeared to be a distant granddaughter of the Greenwood Earl.

A noble heiress, a beautiful woman if Lynn had chosen the other route, he might have found himself in a traditional knight-and-lady romance novel…

However, given the circumstances, that noblewoman had likely already been intercepted by the white-haired man's allies, and her fate was grim.

Lynn had no interest in the fate of the Greenwood Earl's descendants. He simply organized his spoils, taking anything useful from the white-haired man's body.

Aside from the magic stones and gold, Lynn's greatest prize was an ugly, green treant.

The Greenwood Earl's family journal contained detailed records of such treants.

Lynn understood that the treant's withered appearance was due to prolonged neglect. It required a special potion to restore it to peak condition.

The Earl's direct descendants had already fallen on hard times, lacking the means to produce such a potion to maintain the treant's integrity.

According to the Greenwood Earl, at its peak, the treant could rival a Grand Knight.

Although it had no battle aura, as a lifeless construct, it felt no pain, had no physical limitations, and possessed far greater strength than an ordinary Grand Knight.

"It seems this trip was quite rewarding."

Lynn was intrigued by the treant's full potential.

Most wizard apprentices would be helpless with such an artifact, but since Lynn had studied potion-making, he was confident that he could craft the necessary elixirs to maintain the treant.

"The Greenwood Earl's name for you 'Green Sky God' is way too pretentious. From now on, you'll just be 'Little Green.'"

Lynn chuckled to himself, already set on renaming the treant.

After storing Little Green in his spatial tool, he continued searching the area.

Although the white-haired man had killed their horses, Lynn was certain the man hadn't traveled here on foot.

Sure enough, after walking a short distance, he found a tall and powerful steed tethered nearby.

The horse had unique markings, indicating it was no ordinary breed.

"What a generous man gave me a treant and even upgraded my ride."

Lynn smirked wryly, but he knew he was still on the run, constantly on the verge of danger.

Without wasting time, he leaped onto the horse and galloped across the desolate wilderness.

As he left the Greenwood Province behind, the once-familiar lands faded into the distance, and the weight of oppression seemed to lift.

There were no pressing political threats here, nor were there as many factions to be wary of.

Traveling alone with such a fine horse greatly improved his speed.

In less than seven days, he had traversed the entire Blue Moon Province and reached the edge of the Pale Moon Plateau.

During this time, Lynn's strength had also improved his mental power had reached 12 points, bringing him closer to the second-level wizard apprentice threshold of 15 points.

The Pale Moon Plateau and the Emerald Island Great Forest were both regarded as perilous regions, largely uninhabited by ordinary people.

Only extraordinary forces could sustain themselves in such treacherous lands.

When Lynn finally arrived at the headquarters of the Wildlands Cult, following his map's guidance, he was met with a shocking sight.

The place had already been ravaged by the Furnace Army the Wildlands Cult had been completely wiped out.

Standing at the edge of the battlefield, Lynn gazed across an endless plain. The entire landscape was teeming with grotesque, ferocious magical beasts.

Their crimson eyes glowed with malice, and the markings on their bodies unmistakably indicated that they were controlled by the Furnace Army.

"Now, this is how a Furnace War should unfold Level-four forces completely crushing Third-Level forces…"

Lynn thought back on his struggles. He had been thrown into a suicidal assault force, then barely escaped from the Nightshadow Fortress, and had been fleeing through the mortal world for over half a month.

Meanwhile, the Furnace Army had already steamrolled the Wildlands Cult and was merely awaiting further orders from their commander the Black Dragon Witch.

However, with the loss at the Emerald Island Great Forest and the uncertain fate of the Black Dragon Witch, the chain of command had stalled, halting progress on other fronts as well.

"Well, I suppose I should offer my blessings to the Black Dragon Witch."

Lynn chuckled dryly. The thought of the witch's unknown fate brought him some comfort.

Kicking his heels into the horse's flanks, he rode toward the Furnace Army camp.

Only by reaching this place could he finally complete his mission as an informant and regain his freedom.
