Chapter 3 - Siblings by Chance, Enemies by Choice

Can someone tell me why I'm here again?

I'm currently sitting in a garden full of flowers, waiting for Phuong. I'm surprised that my allergies haven't flared up by now. I'm also surprised that Phuong only got us lost two times. Although, I've been surprised by a lot of things recently. Where is Phuong anyway?

One possibility is that she got lost and is currently wandering the castle. Another would be that she abandoned me in this garden to die of an allergic reaction.

The first one is entirely possible, but the latter is also something I'm considering. As I was mulling over my impending doom, I heard Phuong's voice. I looked around and saw her running towards me with a blonde girl in a maid's dress. I stood up and waved to them; the blonde girl seemed to notice me and waved back.

"Let me guess, you got lost on the way?"

"We did not! We just got held up. That's all."

"Uh-huh, sure," I said, nodding with a patronizing smile. Phuong rolled her eyes and groans at my words. Then she looked at the blonde girl next to her, "Althea, this is Minh," she started

"And by unfortunate events, I am also this idiot's brother," I interrupted, pointing to Phuong and watching her face get annoyed again.

I also caught the blonde girl giggling a little. I like her already. After Phuong got herself together, for once, she started again, "As I was saying, Minh, this is Althea. My new friend."

"Nice to meet you Minh, I hope we'll be good friends," Althea said, holding out her hand for a shake.

"Pleasure to meet you too. You can call me Angelo," I said back, not taking her hand.

"Angelo, right..." Althea responded, understandably confused by the name change. Phuong then explains the whole name situation.

"Oh, I see. So you two call each other by your middle name, but other people call you by your first name. Am I understanding this correctly?" Althea asked. Me and Phuong nodded.

"I see, then Aliya, what's your middle name?" Althea queries

"Phuong," Phuong says nonchalantly

"Phuong" Althea repeats, surprisingly not messing up the first time.

The girls continued talking. I decided to stay out of it, you know, to let my hell spawn of a sister have at least one friend. I mean, Althea seems somewhat sane for the most part. Plus she hasn't gone insane from being near her, so I guess that's a good sign. As I watched their back and forth, I started zoning out.

After a while, I felt a sudden pull on my arm. I was unfortunately dragged back to reality, dragged away by Phuong, Things couldn't get any worse. Then I noticed that Althea was with us. Slightly better. We stopped at a long winding staircase. And when I say long, I mean long. Althea is fine, I am pretty tired, and Phuong practically died after we made it up. At the end of the staircase was a giant door. We continued to follow Althea's lead as she opened the door revealing a library. Once the door was open, by some form of necromancy, Phuong got up like a fucking corpse risen from the dead and ran in. I followed behind her along with Althea. We entered the library, shelves filled with books of all sizes, and a sitting area in the middle of it. I darted for the sitting area and slumped down in an armchair. I look at the blank papers on the table and took out a pencil from my pocket - yes I keep a pencil in my pocket at all times. And anyway, this is the only pencil I have. I will die before I lose it. I took a few sheets of paper and started sketching. I don't read a lot of books nor do I plan to start; might as well do something I like to do. I pump out a few drawings; They were messy but good enough. As I was sketching out some more bookshelves, I felt someone watching me, or should I say two people? I looked up from my paper and saw Phuong and Althea watching me draw.

"So how long are you going to stare for?" I asked.

"Oh, sorry about that, we just-"

"We were watching you because we wanted to. Is there a problem?" Phuong interrupted, poking my cheek, probably in an attempt to piss me off.

"If you didn't stare at me like some creepy stalker, then maybe I wouldn't have a problem," I fired back, flicking her forehead.

"Ow, what the fuck" she yelped, rubbing her forehead, "what was that for?!"

"Felt like it."

"That's still not an answer, you fucking asshole!" Phuong grumbled, slamming her fist on my head. It didn't hurt, but I'm petty, so fuck you.

I flicked her forehead again, "Ow! Fuck you!" Phuong yelled.

"Fuck you too bitch."

"Why are you like this?!"

"Well, you're suffering brings me the only joy I can have at the moment, so you're gonna have to hang in there for a while. Not sorry"

"I should've killed you in the womb when I had the chance."

"I have the same sentiment but you don't see me complaining," I shrugged

"You complain about it all the time!" Phuong argued. As we were fighting, we heard someone laughing at us. Looks like someone is getting a kick out of this. We both turned to Althea, who was laughing at our apparent stupidity.

"What's so funny?" I asked while shaking Phuong's head by the hair.

"Sorry, sorry, I can't help it," Althea says. I looked at Phuong, who was currently glaring at me. Wow, so menacing, I let go of her hair and gave her a pat on the head, of course. She slapped my hand away. And here I am, being nice for a change. Never doing that again.

Phuong fixed her hair and picked up a stack of books, then dumped it on the table. Althea came over to her and picked a book from the stack, sitting down in one of the armchairs. Seriously, these armchairs are really comfy, I could take a nap here. Anyway, what am I doing again?

Oh yeah, drawing. I looked at my paper and finished my sketch, then threw it with the other ones. I looked over to Phuong and Althea. They were just reading some books; might as well check on them. I was brought to this world to be a hero, might as well save someone from my sister's terror. I sat on an armrest and watched the two talk about something, I didn't really care.

After a few seconds, Althea noticed me, "Angelo, do you want to read with us?"

"Althea, don't even try, I haven't seen him read something in years."

"Probably because the only books I could find in our house were Manhwa and BL, Phuong. Honestly, I still don't know how you can read that. Seriously, those things are mentally scarring"

"A good story is a good story, stop judging me!" Phuong snapped.

Althea sighed, as we started fighting again. Can't blame her. If I had to spend time with us, I would've gone insane by now and probably murdered a few people. We eventually stopped fighting, thanks to some interference.

We read a few books and made fun of a few troupes. It was fun. As we lingered about on the third book, when the doors to the library swung open. Then, a guy in armor came in. Ever heard of knocking dude? The guy looked around the library, and then he saw us, "Princess, there you are!"

Wait wha?

I was lying outside, I was so bored! There was nothing to do. I rolled around on the ground, to try and cure my boredom. It didn't work but it was worth a shot.

Then, I saw Minh looking down at me, "What do you want?" I asked.

He pulled out a large bag of chips, "Wanna read trashy romance books?"

"Hell fucking yes!" he helped me up and we headed to the library.

We arrived at a local library and read so many books! They were pretty bad, some good ones, but it was fun, plus we got snacks after.
