I knew the human was there.
Lana thought she could eavesdrop without being noticed, but Sylas and I had sensed her presence from the start. Typical human—always prying into matters beyond them. I had hoped she would stay in her room after our earlier meeting, but of course, she didn't.
I exhaled, tuning out the sound of her footsteps retreating from the interrogation room. I had no time to deal with her now. My focus was on the man before me—the prisoner who had been seconds away from giving us an answer before his body began showing signs of self-destruction.
"Kael, this is bad," Sylas muttered, tension clear in his voice. "This destruction spell is stronger than the last one. If we don't act now, he could explode."
I didn't respond.
