I held my breath, keeping my head bowed politely, but my mind was in panic. He was suspicious. Very suspicious. That sentence just now almost dragged me into the pit of death.

A fox wearing a mask? Oh, come on. That could be anyone. Anyone with fox ears and a tail. And… someone as tall as me. And… with a voice like mine. Shit.

My brain raced.

I needed a distraction. Something embarrassing enough to make him want to kick me out of this room immediately.

Then, a brilliant—or stupid, depending on your point of view—idea popped into my head.

As subtly as I could, I muttered "down" while pointing a finger. Just a tiny touch of magic, and of course, nothing harmful. Just… unzipping his pants.

Yes. The zipper.

He'd definitely be embarrassed and send me out of here at once.

Still bowing, I whispered hesitantly, "Your Highness… I'm sorry, but… it seems… um, your zipper… is open."

He slowly looked down, toward where I had indicated.
