I was still standing behind the shadow of a large tree—not too far, but far enough to observe their every move.
Rae and Sylas.
My fists clenched when Sylas got too close to Rae.
This time, I would protect her even if it cost me my life. I hated not being able to protect the people I love.
I was still too weak compared to Sylas. No matter how hard I trained, it still wasn't enough.
Utterly useless.
Footsteps approached—breaking the heavy silence. An elf guard—his name was Agon—walked toward me. I had only recently met him, though we weren't close. They were all the same. Elf guards who always looked expressionless and kept their distance, just like me.
"Throneshade's leader is absolutely insane," he said in a low voice, but loud enough for me to hear. "Daring to mess with the Kingdom. Isn't that madness?"
I looked at Agon, trying not to show how much I disliked this idle chatter.
"Both of them are mad," I replied flatly. "Especially that bastard Sylas."
