Logan
Lee Jae-won was quiet for a long moment. Considering. Weighing something in his mind.
I knew men like him. Men who didn't make decisions lightly. Who saw the world in terms of risks and rewards.
Finally, he exhaled. "Do you trust her?"
He meant Sonya.
I didn't hesitate. "She's the best at what she does."
Sonya's lips curled slightly, but she didn't say anything. Just watched, waiting.
Lee Jae-won glanced at her again, studying her with that same unreadable expression. Then, after a beat, he gave a single nod.
"Ms. Sonya. I would like to hire you" he said.
She grinned. "Are you sure? I am really expensive?.
Mr. Lee snorted. "I will pay triple your rate. Email your account details here."
He handed her his business card.
"I will expect updates on anything you uncover. This Brotherhood is a real threat. I want to find and crush them. I want to know everything."
Sonya tilted her head. "You got it, boss man."
Min-hyuk looked like he was barely holding back an eye-roll.
His father ignored the flippant tone, already turning back toward his desk. "I will have my team coordinate with you." He looked at me. "And I expect this will remain discreet."
I nodded. "That's the plan."
Lee Jae-won's gaze lingered for a moment longer, then he motioned toward his son. "Min-hyuk, escort them out. I need to make some calls."
We exited the room as Mr. Lee's advisors closed in.
Min-hyuk's expression twisted in irritation, his jaw tightening. "You people are a joke. How ridiculous."
Sonya didn't even bother looking at him. "Keeping the girls safe? Yeah, how ridiculous."
His eyes snapped to me, sharp and full of resentment. "We don't need her poking around in our business. And we sure as hell don't need some foreigner taking control of security like he owns the place."
I exhaled through my nose. "I am in charge of security. This is my backyard not yours. You're guests here, not the other way around."
His face darkened.
I held his gaze, my voice even. "Your security protocols failed. My guys checked. The perimeter security? Fine. No issues. The threat didn't come from the crowd, didn't come from any of the regular checkpoints. It came from inside—from your VIP area. The one managed exclusively by your people." I stepped forward, lowering my voice just enough to make sure he understood. "And one of them was directly tied to a group making threats against Ji-an."
Min-hyuk scoffed. "That's impossible, Haw Si-woo would never allow that."
"You damn right he wouldn't." I growled. "but Han wasn't the one overseeing, he was with Nova. It was one of his subordinates who fed up so royally."
He glared at me, then at Sonya.
Sonya, completely unbothered, just smirked. "It's cute how much denial you've got going on."
Min-hyuk's fists clenched. "I don't have to stand here and listen to this."
I nodded once. "No, you don't."
His jaw tightened further, his body practically vibrating with restrained frustration. But he wasn't going to win this argument.
He knew it.
So, like a spoiled rich kid who didn't get his way, he turned and stormed out of the security office, slamming the door behind him.
The second he was gone, Sonya let out a low whistle. "What a clown. All that money wasted on an idiot."
I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose. "He'll get over it."
She shrugged. "Or he won't. Either way, it's not our problem."
"What can you tell me about those two hubs?' I asked as Min-hyuk walked away.
She shrugged. "Could be a hub, could be a base. Either way, it's worth looking into. I'll keep you updated."
I nodded. "Good. You really are the best."
She smirked. "Aw, was that a compliment?"
I exhaled sharply. "Don't start."
Sonya stepped in closer, her sharp blue eyes locking onto mine. "What, you don't want to tell me how grateful you are?"
I shook my head, already knowing where this was going.
Didn't stop her, though.
She reached up, fingers curling into the front of my vest, and pulled me in.
Her lips crashed into mine, firm, confident, and teasing all at once.
Sonya had always done this.
Always tested boundaries. Always played her little games.
And I'd always tolerated it.
Because who didn't like being kissed by a striking woman?
But this time—
This time, it was different.
She didn't just kiss me. She deepened it.
She tilted her head, pressing in harder, her fingers tightening against my chest.
She was playing with me as always.
Seeing if I'd let her push further.
For half a second, I almost did.
Almost let myself sink into it, let myself forget that I was standing in a security office, that I was still on duty, that I had an entire venue to lock down. And Sonya wasn't actually my type.
Then, just as quickly, I pulled back.
She smiled against my lips, letting me go just as easily as she had grabbed me. "Still got it."
I exhaled, adjusting my vest. "Sonya."
She winked. "Don't get all worked up, Captain. Just wanted to remind you what you're missing."
I snorted. "What am I missing? The last time I checked you were into girls."
She cocked an eyebrow. "What does that have to do with it?"
"it's obvious what it means," I said, "I am not a girl."
Sonya just grinned. "I will always make an exception for you Logan, you know that."
I sighed and pitched the bridge of my nose. " Nevermind. Try not to get yourself killed."
She tapped my chest lightly, stepping back. "You, too."
Then she turned and walked off, hips swaying, confidence radiating from every step.
I ran a hand down my face.
I didn't have time for this.
I straightened, already shifting gears.
This show was going to go off without a hitch.
No more mistakes.
No more breaches.
Then Nova would go off to the next venue and they were no longer my problem.
Yeah right.
