Chapter 16 - A deal’s a deal

After being smashed into the wall, Claus took a deep breath and calmed himself. There was no point in causing a scene. He barely managed to get his anger issues under control in the last few years. If he slipped and fell into that habit again, not only would he lose the company, but he would also be in danger of losing Luther.

Claus remembered the days of his youth with Luther. He wasn't always an angry man playing the role of a nice guy. He was actually an upbeat, vivacious kid until he hit puberty. The day he was changed was the day he and Luther shared their first kiss.

Luther was being homeschooled as a kid. Their parents told them it was due to a disease, but they both were suspicious about that. Nonetheless, the omega spent his days alone - only a handful of teachers and Claus were allowed to visit him besides his family.

Claus knew he was the highlight of Luther's days so he always brought him new stories from school, sweets -that his family had forbidden- and , the most important thing, himself. He always made Luther laugh and helped him escape from his room to the garden where they used to spend hours. He presumed his family knew about this broken rule, but they indulged it by turning a blind eye.

It was a rather humid afternoon when all hell broke loose. It was Claus's birthday so he hid a small cake for two persons and two forks inside his backpack. He prayed all the way to Luther's house that the cream wouldn't melt. He remembered how excited he was about sharing another birthday with his favorite person.

Upon his arrival, Luther's stepmother -Marlena- welcomed him with gifts and congratulations. He thanked her for their generosity, but he could hardly wait to see his best friend.

When he was finally free to go, he ran as fast as he could towards Luther's room. He caught his breath quickly and fixed the little tie of his school uniform before opening the door. Luther jumped into his arms so happy, that Claus's heart melted.

-Happy birthday, said Luther out of breath.

-I've told you not to run like that. You could hurt yourself, he gently scolded the omega.

But the smile and fast heartbeat were enough to betray he wasn't upset about Luther running so fast to hug him at all.

Claus broke free from Luther's arms and cleared his throat. Older than him by only six months, Claus always tried to appear mature and composed in front of the little omega. Luther looked at him a bit sad by his gesture, but with affection in his eyes nonetheless.

-I've got something for us.

Luther's eyes sparkled with curiosity.

Claus took out of his now full-melted cream backpack a barely standing cake with smashed candles that barely showed the number twelve. Despite the little boy's disappointment, Luther gasped excitedly.

-You brought cake!

-And forks, but we gotta be really quiet or the adults will come and take it away, said Claus teasingly.

Luther thoughtfully nodded his head. Claus smiled with endearment. He led the way to their secret passage to the garden. Since it rained, they sat under the low balcony from Luther's room. Claus put his jacket and his uniform vest on the barely dry ground and gestured to Luther to sit down. His mother would yell at him again for drifting his uniform, but he didn't care about that at all. All that counted was Luther smiling at him at that moment. He lit the candles on the barely standing cake.

-We're gonna make a wish.

Luther looked at him suspectly.

-But it's your birthday…

-I'll share my birthday wish with you. But you gotta keep it a secret. If anyone will find out, it will cancel both wishes.

Luther looked at him horrified and nodded as taking a silent vow.

-On the count to three. One, two, three!

But only Luther blew the candles. He looked at Claus heartbroken, tears forming in the corner of his eyes.

-I-I stole your wish!

Claus laughed wholeheartedly. He took a bit of the smashed frosting and put it gently on Luther's lower lip. Luther looked at him confused, tears still pouring down his face.

-I'll make my wish come true, but you gotta help me, ok?

-Ok, said Luther between sobs.

-Put your lips pressed together like this, said Claus.

Luther did as he was told, making Claus approve of him proudly.

Then it happened. The thing that separated them for over a decade. Claus kissed Luther. Innocently with just a peck. Only a light press of his lips on Luther's. Just enough to share the frosting. Just enough to, for the first time, start Luther's pheromones.

The last thing Claus remembered was Luther's desperate face crying his heart out and the sweet taste.

The next thing was him waking up from a three-month coma with nothing but pure rage. He couldn't explain why, but since the moment he opened his eyes he couldn't breathe. The constant suffocation, the strange sensation of being incomplete, the ringing in his ears made him see only red in front of his eyes. The medication that was supposed to help him get under control all these weird intense feelings wasn't doing anything for him.

The worst thing about this was the fact he wasn't allowed to see Luther anymore.

He remembered vividly a fight with his parents. He threw a chair into the wall smashing it mercilessly. Two grown male nurses were trying to hold him back barely. His mother was crying. His father was yelling with nothing but concern and sadness in his eyes.

-I wanna see him! Let go of me!

-You can't! yelled his mother heartbrokenly between sobs.

-Why? said Claus while another man injected yet another dose of tranquilizing serum into the boy's neck.

-You're an alpha, said his father. You were only allowed there because the Wilkers thought you were a beta like your mother and me.

-Why does that matter? cried Claus slowly losing consciousness.

-Because for an alpha, Luther is nothing but poison, said his father.

Those were the last words from his parents he would hear in the next couple of years. His nightmare of life began then -that spring- when he got unquenchable with his first love. Yet there was no regret in Claus's heart, but something more morally dark, more insatiable, more egotistical threatened to take over his heart greedily.

And that something would lead him exactly to this place with this person.

-Back to me so soon?

-I need it. For Monday. It's a closed deal.

-You know my condition for giving you Greenleaf and the new drug.

-I'll text you the location. Promise you're not gonna hurt him, said Claus dryly.

-I could, but it would be just words without value and you know it. But I won't kill him like we agreed in our deal.

Claus grunted frustratedly.

The tattooed man in front of him smiled brightly while continuing to play with the tip of the knife between his fingers. Monday night will be the night of his revenge.

Sanchez was getting hard just thinking about it.
