The soft glow of the nightlight bathed the room in a warm golden hue, casting gentle shadows over the bed where Yumi sat, cradling their newborn twins in his arms.
His son, Shin, latched onto him Yumi's heart swelled with warmth as he gazed down at them.
It had only been two weeks since they had entered this world, and yet, he already couldn't imagine life without them. They were so small, so fragile—tiny versions of himself and Shinji.
"You're so greedy, aren't you, Shin?" Yumi murmured softly, brushing his fingers over his son's tiny hand, watching as it curled instinctively around his finger.
Shinji, who had been watching from the side with an amused smirk, leaned in and kissed Yumi's temple. "Of course, he is. He's my son, after all."
Yumi rolled his eyes. "Oh? And what about Yui?"
Shinji chuckled, brushing his knuckles over their daughter's soft cheek. "She's my little princess. She knows she doesn't have to rush. She'll get what she wants in her own time."
Yumi scoffed, but his lips curled into a smile. "So, what? You're saying she's spoiled already?"
Shinji smirked, wrapping an arm around Yumi's waist as he leaned in close. "Obviously. She's got me wrapped around her little finger, just like you do."
Yumi felt the heat rise in his cheeks. Even after all this time, Shinji still had a way of making his heart flutter. He tried to look away, but Shinji caught his chin and guided him into a soft, lingering kiss.
"Hmm… stop kissing me when I'm feeding them," Yumi mumbled against his lips, though he didn't push him away.
Shinji hummed in amusement, trailing his lips down to Yumi's jaw and then pressing a kiss to his shoulder. "Why? You don't like it?"
Yumi gave him a pointed look. "You know I do."
Shinji grinned but pulled back, his eyes returning to their twins. "They really do look like us, huh?" His voice was softer now, filled with quiet awe.
Yumi followed his gaze. Shin had Shinji's sharp eyes, though they were rounder and softer, a perfect blend of both their features.
His tiny hands twitched in his sleep, his little mouth moving even after he had finished feeding, as if he was still dreaming about it.
Yui, on the other hand, had inherited Yumi's gentle features, her small lips pursed in a tiny pout as she snuggled closer.
"They're perfect," Yumi whispered, his fingers brushing over their downy hair.
Shinji nodded, pressing a kiss to Yui's forehead first, then Shin's. "They really are."
There was a moment of silence, a peaceful stillness that settled between them. Yumi sighed, resting his head against Shinji's shoulder, basking in the warmth of their little family.
Then, Shinji, being Shinji, had to ruin it.
"You know," he murmured, lips brushing against Yumi's ear. "Seeing you like this, holding them, feeding them… it's kinda hot."
Yumi stiffened, heat rushing to his face. "Shinji!" He hissed, smacking him on the arm.
Shinji only laughed, clearly enjoying his reaction. "What? I'm just saying."
"You're unbelievable."
"And yet, you love me."
Yumi huffed but didn't argue. He just focused on adjusting Yui in his arms, who had started fussing now that her brother had finished.
Shinji watched as Yumi carefully positioned their daughter, guiding her with gentle hands. His expression softened, and for a moment, he said nothing, just watching. Then, quietly, he whispered, "You're amazing, you know that?"
Yumi blinked, caught off guard by the sudden sincerity in his voice. "Huh?"
Shinji reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind Yumi's ear. "Carrying them, giving birth to them, taking care of them like this… You're incredible."
Yumi bit his lip, looking away. "I didn't do it alone, you know. You were there the whole time."
Shinji smiled, resting his forehead against Yumi's. "Yeah, but still… I just wanted to say it."
Yumi's heart swelled, and for a moment, he forgot how to breathe. He leaned in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to Shinji's lips. "Thank you," he whispered against them.
Shinji smiled against the kiss, deepening it for a moment before pulling away. "Anytime."
---
Shinji sat beside him, watching with an unreadable expression before a slow smirk spread across his lips. "You know," he drawled, resting his chin on his palm as he admired Yumi. "I think our daughter really likes your milk."
Yumi glanced at him, brow raising at the teasing tone in Shinji's voice. "Of course, she does. She's a baby. That's kind of the point."
Shinji chuckled, leaning in just enough for his breath to tickle Yumi's ear. "I was just thinking… if it's that good, maybe I should get a taste too."
Yumi's face turned a shade of red that could rival the setting sun.
He swatted at Shinji's arm, though with his hands occupied, it was more of an awkward shove. "Stop saying weird things!" he hissed, glancing down at the twins as if making sure they weren't somehow offended by their father's shamelessness.
Shinji only laughed, clearly enjoying how easily he could fluster Yumi even after all these years. "What? You don't think I'd enjoy it? I mean, after all—"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence." Yumi's glare was weak at best, mostly because his lips were already twitching upward.
Shinji tilted his head, pretending to think. "Hmm, but you're not denying that I'll be having a treat later, milk or no milk?"
Yumi sighed, rolling his eyes, but his blush deepened. "You're impossible."
"And yet, you still love me." Shinji grinned, leaning in to press a soft kiss against Yumi's cheek. He then moved down, placing a tender kiss on Shin's forehead and then on Yui's tiny cheek.
Yumi watched him, his heart swelling at the sight. Shinji might be a shameless tease, but he was also an incredible father. The way he looked at their children, the gentleness in his touch—it made Yumi fall for him all over again.
A comfortable silence settled between them as Yumi adjusted the babies, ensuring they were comfortable. Shinji draped an arm around his shoulders, pulling him closer.
After a while, Yumi spoke softly. "I'm glad they're both Alphas."
Shinji blinked, looking at him curiously. "Why's that?"
Yumi hesitated before exhaling a small sigh. "Because… I don't want them to go through what I did. Being an Omega… it wasn't always easy. The teasing, the way people looked at me, the way they assumed things about me just because of my second gender…" He trailed off, looking down at their children with a mixture of love and lingering worry. "I just want them to have it easier."
Shinji tightened his grip around him, pressing a lingering kiss against Yumi's temple. "Hey," he murmured. "You're the strongest person I know. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks—you've always been amazing. And our kids?" He smiled, nudging Yumi's cheek with his nose. "They have you as their parent. That means they'll grow up knowing that strength isn't about what people label you as. It's about who you choose to be."
Yumi swallowed hard, his eyes glistening. "You always know what to say, don't you?"
Shinji smirked. "It's part of my charm."
Yumi huffed a laugh before leaning into him. "Thank you."
"Always," Shinji whispered, his hand gently stroking Yumi's hair. "Now, finish feeding our little gluttons so I can get some.
Yumi nearly choked on his breath, his face heating up instantly. "Shinji!" he hissed, glaring at his husband while still carefully holding their twins. "Can you not be shameless for one moment?"
Shinji only grinned, completely unbothered. "What? It's the truth," he said, leaning in just enough so that his lips brushed against Yumi's ear. His voice dipped lower, teasing but undeniably affectionate. "You know I can't resist you, love."
Yumi bit his lip, his body betraying him with the way it shivered at Shinji's tone. "I just gave birth two weeks ago," he reminded, trying to sound stern, though the pink dusting his cheeks ruined the effect.
Shinji hummed thoughtfully, pretending to consider. "Mmm, true, true. But technically," he said, trailing a hand along Yumi's arm, "it's been longer than that since we had our fun. Don't you miss me?"
Yumi shot him a look, but the truth was, he did. Even with the exhaustion of being new parents, there was still that longing, that pull between them that never faded no matter how much time passed. But he wasn't about to let Shinji have the satisfaction of knowing that.
Instead, he huffed and focused back on Yui, who was still feeding, her tiny hands curling against his skin. "I miss sleeping through the night," he muttered. "Something you're not helping with."
Shinji chuckled, clearly entertained. "Alright, alright," he said, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I'll be good."
Yumi narrowed his eyes. "Doubtful."
Shinji leaned in, kissing his cheek. "You wound me, love."
Yumi rolled his eyes but couldn't stop the smile tugging at his lips. Even after everything, Shinji still knew how to make his heart race like the first time they met.
As the twins finally finished, Yumi adjusted them, gently patting their backs to help them burp.
Shinji took Yui into his arms while Yumi held Shin, and for a few moments, they simply sat there, admiring their babies.
Yumi sighed softly, watching the way Shinji looked at their daughter with so much love in his eyes. "I was serious about what I said earlier," he murmured. "I'm really glad they're Alphas. I don't want them to go through what I did."
Shinji's expression softened. He shifted so he could press a kiss to Yumi's forehead. "I know," he said gently. "But no matter what, they'll always have us. And we'll make sure they grow up strong, confident, and loved."
Yumi smiled, his heart swelling with warmth. "Yeah… we will."
Shinji kissed him again, slow and lingering. "Now," he murmured against his lips, "about that treat…"
Yumi groaned. "Shinji!"
Shinji only laughed, holding Yui close. "Come on, love. You know you like my teasing."
Yumi sighed, shaking his head—but he couldn't deny it. And honestly? He wouldn't have it any other way.
