Chapter 25 - 25.The Meeting at the Gnome Train Station

Merslin and his party finally arrived at the gnome city's train station aboard the dwarven train. The station was bustling with gnomes, eager to witness the long-dormant train in motion once again. Their eyes were filled with curiosity and anticipation as they watched Merslin and his companions disembark.

Gnome 1 (observing the train):

"It's been a long time since this train last moved! Perhaps this means the dwarves and we will cooperate again."

Gnome 2 (nodding):

"Yes, if the train is running again, something important must be happening."

Accompanied by Drukin, Merslin and his party made their way toward the city center to meet the gnome elder. The city was alive with activity, filled with intricate machinery operated by skilled gnomes. Merslin marveled at their advanced technology and the bustling atmosphere.

The gnome elder welcomed them warmly, carefully accepting the sealed letter from King Bagrhum Steelbeard of the dwarves. He studied the letter, his expression growing serious as he contemplated its contents.

Gnome Elder (thoughtfully):

"This letter contains an important proposal for our gnomes and the dwarves to work together once more. However, this is not a decision I can make alone. I must present it to the council and our king for deliberation."

Merslin nodded in agreement, understanding the gravity of the situation. The elder then led them to the Council of Elders, located deep within the gnome city.

The council chamber was a sacred place for the gnome society, filled with ancient tomes and historical records. This was where the most significant decisions of their people were made. The council members had already gathered, and when the elder entered with the letter, all eyes turned toward him.

Gnome Elder (solemnly):

"We have received a letter from the dwarven kingdom. This letter offers us a chance to move beyond our past conflicts and join forces once again. I have called this meeting to hear your opinions on this matter."

The council members took turns reading the letter, their expressions growing more serious. The letter emphasized the necessity of setting aside past grievances to unite against the growing threat of the ancient gods. A heavy silence filled the room as they processed its implications.

Just then, the doors to the chamber opened, and the Gnome King entered. With a composed yet weighty expression, he listened attentively to the discussion as he walked toward the council.

Gnome King (gravely):

"This letter presents a new path for us. It offers an opportunity to put an end to our long-standing conflicts with the dwarves and to work together. However, before we make a decision, we must be thorough and careful. Elders, I wish to hear your thoughts."

The council members began sharing their perspectives. Some stressed the deep-seated history of strife between their people and the dwarves, urging caution. Others emphasized that the threat of the ancient gods was an unprecedented danger, one that demanded their unity.

Gnome Elder (cautiously):

"It is true that our history with the dwarves has been fraught with conflict. However, now is the time to move beyond those wounds. The ancient gods threaten us all. If we combine the dwarves' craftsmanship with our own technological advancements, we may stand a chance at stopping this menace."

The gnome king listened carefully, contemplating their words. He remained silent for a long moment before finally speaking.

Gnome King (resolutely):

"We will accept the dwarven kingdom's proposal. It is time to move past our old conflicts and forge a new alliance against the ancient gods. This decision is for the safety of all our people."

Merslin and his party felt relief and hope wash over them. The long-standing divide between the two races was beginning to mend. If the gnomes and dwarves could truly unite, they would form a formidable force against the ancient gods.

Drukin (smiling):

"It gladdens me to see our races working together once more. No matter how perilous the path ahead, we can overcome it together."

Merslin (determined):

"Now our mission is clear. We must ensure that this alliance grows strong enough to stand against the ancient gods. We will do everything in our power to make that happen."

With the foundation of their new alliance established, the gnome king and council members joined Merslin's party in planning their next steps.

The Fall of the Troll Alliance

Having repaired relations between the gnomes and dwarves, Merslin and his party set off toward the human kingdom in the heart of the Celesta continent. Along their arduous journey, they stumbled upon ancient ruins sprawling across the vast landscape. However, these were no ordinary ruins—they bore the grandeur of a forgotten civilization. Towering stone structures, reminiscent of Incan and Mayan architecture, stood in eerie silence, partially overtaken by moss and vines.

Once-proud pyramidal temples and stepped structures lay in decay, some partially buried beneath the earth. Despite the erosion of time, intricate carvings and symbols still radiated an air of mysticism, whispering stories of a civilization long gone. Merslin quickly realized that these ruins were the remnants of the once-mighty Troll Empire.

Merslin (studying the ruins):

"Could this be the place the trolls from the island spoke of? This must have been the heart of the Troll Empire… Once, this was a thriving capital."

Serena closely examined the carvings. The stone walls depicted sacred elements revered by the trolls, as well as the tales of their legendary warriors. The symbols bore similarities but also subtle differences, suggesting that they may have represented distinct factions within the empire.

Serena (analyzing the markings):

"These symbols… They're similar but not identical. It looks like this wasn't a single empire, but rather an alliance of different troll tribes and nations. Each one inscribed their own beliefs and history into the stone."

Lisa, intrigued, ventured deeper into the ruins. Within the collapsed remains of a temple, she sensed traces of ancient magic lingering in the air.

Lisa (examining the energy):

"This isn't just a historical site. There's still magic here—powerful remnants of what the trolls once wielded. Their civilization was far more advanced than we thought."

Merslin, agreeing with Lisa's assessment, turned his gaze toward the massive pyramidal structures. These were likely places of sacred rituals, where powerful ceremonies once took place. Their size and complexity were testaments to the trolls' former strength. But now, only echoes of their past remained.

Merslin (contemplating):

"The reason the Troll Alliance fell is becoming clearer. The human coalition had the support of elves and ancient beings, forming a unified front. But the trolls… they were a loose alliance of independent tribes. The ancient gods exploited that weakness, sowing division among them. That division led to their downfall."

Elena, sensing a deeper connection, speculated that the ancient gods' influence may have been at the heart of the trolls' demise.

Elena (thoughtfully):

"It's possible that the ancient gods subtly manipulated the trolls. They might have united under a common cause, but the gods' influence likely led to their fragmentation and ultimate defeat."

Aria looked around, a solemn expression on her face. She could feel the weight of the countless lives lost in this place. A great war had been fought here, and many had perished.

Aria (somberly):

"So many must have died here… Even though they had the numbers, they still lost. The power of the ancient gods must have been overwhelming."

Merslin clenched his fist, realizing the significance of what they had discovered. The grandeur of the ruins revealed that the trolls had once possessed immense strength, but the gods had turned their greatest asset—their unity—against them.

Merslin (resolute):

"We can't repeat their mistake. The ancient gods don't just rely on brute force—they thrive on manipulation and division. If we are to win, we must ensure that our alliance remains unshaken."

As they explored further, they discovered an artifact in the ruins—one that could hold the key to fighting the ancient gods.

Merslin (examining the artifact):

"This isn't just a relic. This might be a weapon against the gods themselves. If we study it, we might find a way to resist their influence."

With their resolve strengthened, the party left the ruins behind, carrying with them the lessons of the fallen trolls. Their journey to the human kingdom continued.
