Chapter 22 - The Dance of Death

Chapter 22

Steel met steel.

Sparks flew as Kaito barely dodged the Ghost General's katana. He twisted, gun raised, but the blade was already swinging again.

Too fast.

Reina lunged in, her knife flashing in the firelight. The General sidestepped effortlessly and countered with a single precise slash. Reina barely pulled back in time, but a thin cut appeared on her arm.

He's not just fast—he's reading us.

Toshiro cursed, grabbing a discarded pistol from one of the fallen guards. He fired twice.

The General didn't even blink.

His sword moved in a blur—and the bullets split midair.

Kaito clenched his teeth. Damn.

This wasn't just a skilled fighter. This was a monster who had perfected the art of killing.

Surviving the Unbeatable

The Ghost General tilted his head, eyes calm. "If this is all you have, you should walk away."

Kaito wiped the sweat from his brow. "Not happening."

He flicked his wrist.

A second gun.

Point-blank.

BANG.

The Ghost General dodged—but just barely. The bullet grazed his shoulder.

His expression didn't change.

Kaito smirked. Got him.

Reina didn't waste the opening. She dashed in, her blade finding its mark—slicing across his ribs.

For the first time, the Ghost General winced.

Toshiro grinned. "Looks like you bleed after all."

The General exhaled, touching his wound. Then he smiled.

"Good."

He tightened his grip on the katana.

"Now I can stop holding back."

A Fight Against Time

They didn't stand a chance.

Kaito barely managed to deflect the General's next strike—his body screamed as he was hurled back into a stack of crates.

Reina moved to cover him, but the General's movements were relentless. A flurry of slashes forced her to the defensive, her speed barely keeping up.

Toshiro fired again. Missed.

The General closed the gap.

A brutal kick to Toshiro's ribs.

A gunshot rang out—Toshiro fell, coughing blood.

Kaito pushed himself up. "Damn it—"

The General raised his blade.

One strike—this would end it.

Then—

BOOM.

An explosion shook the ground.

The General froze.

Kaito's eyes widened. That wasn't them.

Something had gone wrong.

A new figure emerged from the smoke.

A gunman. Dressed in black. Face hidden.

They held an assault rifle.

And they weren't aiming at the Ghost General.

They were aiming at Kaito.
