Chapter 14 - I Hit A Home Run With A Fireball!

Now, what I am about to say next might be a little funky, but what else are you supposed to do when you see four meteorite-sized fireballs flying at you at incredible speeds from the sky? Well, you obviously can't dodge, so you just have to send the fireball back at the receiver. How do I do that, you ask?

Well…

WHAM! WHACK! WHAM! WHACK!

The crowd gasps in disbelief as I deflect all four fireballs. Honestly, I am also shocked. I hold an incredibly long and large baseball bat made of dark energy. It is absurdly long; it's almost funny.

I quickly recall a passage from Magic and Emotions, the book that helps me understand the magic of this world better, which explains what I do.

All magic that is known on our planet of Terrathis, mysteriously born out of the continent of Glozaria, is known to be connected to human emotions. Various emotions can make some elements weaker and other elements stronger.

The key to unlocking this strength is thinking about the times your magic was at its strongest and what emotions you were feeling then. Of course, there is much more than that to this. However, it is a start. he true answer lies within yourself.

This passage is confusing, but the foundation of it makes complete sense to me. The time I feel strongest is also the time I feel weakest. I know that is confusing, but hear me out.

When I fought Colin, I can transform my dark magic into a dangerous weapon. Even so, I fuel my dark magic with despair and rage over my weakness.

Here, when I see the meteorites attacking me, I think about how weak I am and how I can't get out of the way. I visualize a massive baseball bat of dark energy, and it works!

Visualization is a key component to manifesting different elemental weapons that can be used temporarily. Anyway, back to the fighting.

CRACK!

My gigantic baseball bat of dark energy cracks. I can't sustain my transformed wand for long as the impact of the fireballs on the dark magic baseball bat takes its toll. The fireballs are thrown back into the air, heading right for Leena, who looks surprised at what is happening.

BOOM!

The explosion of the fireballs hitting Leena causes several shockwaves throughout the arena, encasing massive parts of the arena floor in flames. I hold my hands on my knees as I wait to see if Leena gets up from that blast. My dark magic baseball bat transforms back into my wand. My breathing becomes shallow, and sweat pours down my face. My limit is soon approaching.

A figure encased in fire rises from the wild flames that emerged from the meteorites. It is none other than Leena herself. She looks burned in various places, but otherwise, she appears alright. My face twitches. I forget how durable the children of the House of Grey can be in battles.

Especially when it comes to fire.

My feet dig into the ground as I launch myself in a last attempt to put her down before my energy runs out. I give my last battle cry and encase my right fist in all the dark energy I can summon from my wand. My fist becomes a black hole of destruction. I throw my haymaker punch of dark magic at Leena's head, hoping to knock her out but not harm her too much.

She notices before I swing my haymaker that my feet are digging into the ground. My guess is she already predicts I would be low on energy and would try one last final attempt.

My haymaker just misses her head. When my punch misses, a shockwave ripples through the arena because of the pure force of the dark magic.

Leena jumps back and quickly launches herself into the air, swinging her leg around like a whip, which connects with my face.

Well, that's not good, I think to myself as I fall to the ground, my eyes slowly backing away from the light of the sky. It feels almost as if I'm falling. What happens immediately after I become unconscious is anybody's guess. When I wake up, I am lying in the hospital bed.

I see Leena sitting next to me, looking worried, while on the other side of me is a doctor.

"How long was I out for?" I ask the doctor, fearing the worst.

"You were only out for around fifteen minutes. It wasn't too bad. For today and tomorrow, though, I suggest you take it easy," the doctor says as they leave the room.

As I face Leena, I notice a few tears dripping down her face.

"It's okay, I promise. It was only for fifteen minutes. I did not expect that kick. Do you do martial arts? Congratulations on winning, by the way!" My smile hopefully made her feel a little less guilty.

"I just feel so badly about hurting you. I didn't mean to hit you that hard. Also, I do a little bit of martial arts. Since I can't control my magic super well and kind of have to rely on spray and pray if it hits, I built up my physical skills instead," Leena says, squinting at me to make sure I have no hidden bruises.

"Seriously, I am fine," I say to her as I scratch my head.

As Leena is about to respond, the doctor walks back into the room and says, "Miss Grey, your older brother Ignis Grey, would like to have a word with you outside by the garden."

Leena sighs and stands up from her chair. She looks back at me before stepping out of the room.

"Make sure to rest well and let's see each other again when you're ready!" is the last thing I hear Leena say before she disappears around the corner.

I plop my head back into my pillow. It melts into the softness of the pillow. My mind bursts with many thoughts. For example, would I have won if I could predict her martial arts skills? How did I end up losing to her magic? What happens now?

My eyes close, exhausted from predicting and dodging fireballs. I hope the Keeper Principal won't be too mad at me; I think to myself as I drift off to sleep.
