Chapter 23 - The Forbidden Section

"DUCK!" a voice yells nearby as a large purple flame whizzes over a person's head and explodes into the side of the building named Sky Point.

The balcony that Ivy and I stood on before, once a place of beauty, is now a place of ruin.

Even though I hate Keeper Academy and the many lies the place offers, some aspects of it, such as spending time with friends, means a lot to me.

Where I created those special moments means a lot to me as well.

I have no words to say as pieces of stone go flying everywhere into the air and the surrounding people continue to run and scream. It is like the academy has turned into a war zone. Thankfully, nobody seems hurt yet except for a few minor injuries.

The screams and explosions drown my rapid footsteps out. Worried, rushed voices erupt around me as I do my best to get away from it all.

I keep searching for that one masked, cloaked figure, but he is nowhere to be seen. My breath is getting shallow, and my sweat is falling bit by bit. I have lost all hope until I catch sight of a cloak around the corner.

"Hey you!" I shout out as my body wills itself into action.

By the time I arrive at the corner, he is already gone. My head swivels back and forth down the various halls of the main building.

When I turn my head to look down the right hall again, I notice a shoe disappear behind the corner. Any clue is better than no clue, I think to myself as I race down the main building hall. There is no sign of the cloaked figure as I turn yet again another corner.

At the same time I check, I hear footsteps echoing up the staircase. With no hesitation, my feet take off toward the staircase and run up the steps.

There are two doors open, and I think my eyes see the same cloaked figure disappear into the room. My footsteps become louder as they slam into the floor. My eyes widen as my body enters the room. This is the noble library.

It consists of several smaller floors with thousands upon thousands of books that commoners can't hope to even touch. The figure is nowhere to be seen, so I think to myself I might as well check it out.

Did the figure lead me here by any chance? I think to myself as I explore the library. There is a section of the library completely closed off to everyone else. The sign reads The Forbidden Section. My face lights up as I realize this is the place to learn about very important restricted things without worrying about people interfering.

Only people whom the Keepers deem worthy are allowed in that section.

Outside the windows of the noble library, people are still running around. Explosions still lay waste to the landscape. The Keepers are trying to keep and maintain order, but they are failing.

This is the perfect opportunity for me.

Swing!

The door leading to the forbidden section wasn't locked.

My guess is one, the Keepers are very dumb, or two, that the cloaked person opened it for me. Things seem to happen too perfectly for this to just be a coincidence. There are so many documents and books in the forbidden section, knowing where to begin is half the battle. I have no idea how long the attack will last as well.

The books look dusty, and the papers look old. My hand grabs a book from the shelf that has a fancy symbol of the letters L and N bonded together with stars around it. "Lumosar Nebula," I read aloud to myself. This is going to be an interesting read.

Harnessing the power of Lumosar Nebula

By: Professor Parker

The galaxy we live in as we know it is called Lumosar Nebula. In various parts of Glozaria, Elvenador, and Thyndara, we find foreign magic identical to the magic sourced from Glozaria, but completely different. Any time our researchers out in the field attempt to link the various foreign magic places together or gather it for sampling, they disappear or die.

Our operation to understand this magic, which seems connected to our planet of Terrathis and the overall universe, continues. It seems everything is connected, but we do not know why or how. Please proceed with caution before attempting to gain the unknown. The magic that lies in those various caves, holes, walls, etc., is far beyond what we know, even potentially more complex than the Heart of Glozaria as we know it.

There is magic outside of Terrathis that is more powerful than our strongest elemental magicians? Impossible!

We are all taught that magic is born out of the Heart of Glozaria and that our magic exists nowhere else. They also teach us that no magic exists outside of Terrathis. My chief concern is, why are the Eradicators interested in this foreign magic? Do they want to use it to wipe out humanity once and for all?

We have an astrology class sometime this year, though who knows if the Eradicators plan to actually teach us the truth about the entire world or just feed us more and more lies that we subconsciously accept.

My head tries to drown out the noise outside as my eyes flip through the pages at superhuman speeds to keep all the information my head can hold together.

Thankfully, I am not completely focused on the book because my ears hear footsteps running up the stairs. I wouldn't have heard the footsteps if my focus had been solely on the book.

I need to work on my awareness skills.

I place the book in its proper place. The gate closes quietly behind me as I scan the opening of the library door for any Keepers.

Tap. Tap. Tap! TAP!

The footsteps are getting louder and louder as they approach my location. It sounds like a decent amount of Keepers as well. They are probably out trying to hunt the cloaked figures down. I quietly run down to the opposite side of the hall and turn a corner.

I make it just in time as the Keepers reach the top of the stairs and start searching every room. A few Keepers duck into the noble library.

My footsteps quietly bounce down the stairs on the opposite side of the building. By the time I get down the stairs, I am catching my breath. Water would be the best thing for me right now.

The halls are empty when I check them. I walk back onto the campus battlefield. Luckily, I made it to the Garden of Watersia and splashed some cold water on my face.

A few flashes of purple, yellow, and black light appear all over the Academy. It seems like some of the cloaked figures are engaged in duels with the Eradicators disguised as Keepers.

If the cloaked figures are on humanity's side, they must know the Keepers are just Eradicators. It seems like a sign since the organization of cloaked figures hasn't targeted any students with their purple flames.

After a few minutes, the explosions cease.

Next, the frequency of purple flashes decreases. That means a lot of the Keepers are winning their fights, I say to myself bitterly. After another ten minutes, the campus becomes a lot more silent.

A lot of buildings are still burning with purple flames. A few people are burnt and have some injuries. Others are crying at the shock of it all, and I can't blame them.

I look at the black wand in my hand while thinking to myself, can I harness even one percent of the power of Lumosar Nebula to make conflicts like this needless?

I know the organization is most likely on our side to fight off the Eradicators, but causing potentially innocent people to be caught in the crossfire is not cool. I tighten my grip around my wand.
