Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 Temporary Director

Director Allan Arkush had slipped to the ground, his long neck leaning on the director's chair, his face was pale, his eyes were closed, and he looked exhausted.

"Allan, Allan!" Joe Dante screamed in fear, ran to the director, and stretched out his hand to grab the director, "What's wrong with you, Allan?"

Ronald stepped forward and hugged Joe. "Don't touch him. We don't know what condition the director is in. This may make the condition worse. I have learned first aid. Let me take a look."

After handing Joe over to Jim, Ronald stepped forward to support the director, who was lying on the ground, and began to check the situation. He put his finger under his nose. Fortunately, he was breathing weakly but continuously. He checked the artery on his neck and found a pulse. Ronald breathed a sigh of relief.

"Jenny, Jenny! Come and help me." Jenny, the script supervisor, ran over. "Here, help me hold his head with both hands." Seeing Jenny holding it, Ronald stood up and moved the director's chair away, then took over Jenny and laid Allan flat on the ground. He unbuttoned his shirt, opened his mouth, and looked; fortunately, there was no vomit.

"Don't worry, it's nothing serious. " Ronald stood up, took off his jacket, folded it in half, and put it under the director's neck to keep his head clear of airways.

"His pulse and breathing are fine. He may have fainted due to overwork." Ronald announced to everyone who gathered around him, "Please don't gather in a circle. Please step back 10 feet to keep the director's place ventilated! Thank you."

After persuading everyone to leave, Ronald discussed the matter with the twins Joe Dent, the script supervisor Jenny, and the assistant Jim who were standing in the inner circle.

"I'm going to call 911. The director can't move right now, so I'll stay here and watch over him. Joe can continue..."

"No, no, don't call 911." Joe Dante seemed to come to his senses, "Don't call 911, let's drive him to the hospital."

"Huh? Aren't you members of the Directors Guild (DGA)? Do you have health insurance?"

"It's not an insurance issue... Anyway, just listen to me, and we'll deliver it ourselves."

Ronald exchanged glances with Jim, Jenny, and others. "Okay, if you say so, I'll go drive the car in."

Joe Dante fished his car keys out of his trouser pocket and handed them to Ronald. "Silver Ford Grenada."

I ran out of the high school quickly. There were a lot of cars parked in the parking lot at the entrance. I couldn't find where the car was parked at a glance.

"Hey, Ronnie." A man stuck his head out of the window of the crew's van. "Where are you going in such a hurry?" It was the crew's driver, Chris.

Yes, the crew's driver parks here during the day to watch over the cars and has nothing to do, so it would be better to ask him to drive the van out; otherwise, it would be difficult for the director, who is nearly two meters tall, to move.

"Just in time. Hurry up, drive the van in. The director has fainted; we have to take him to the hospital."

The driver, Chris, quickly put down the Penthouse magazine in his hand and started the Chevrolet van he was sitting in. Ronnie climbed into the passenger seat and said, "Joe asked us to take Allan to the hospital. You and I will take care of it."

The Chevrolet van drove into the school and stopped next to the camera with a bang. Ronald jumped out of the van and opened the back door. He said, "Get in here." Then he jumped into the van and caught the director's head. The assistant director behind him held the director Alan's feet. "One, two, three!" Together, they moved the director to the ground in the back of the van.

The assistant director stayed in the car to take care of Alan.

Ronald jumped out of the car and closed the back door. "Where's Joe?" he asked the director of photography. "I'll give him the keys back."

"I'm here," Joe Dante's voice came from the front of the car.

Ronald handed the keys to Joe. Joe Dante nodded to him, opened the passenger door, and was about to get in.

"No, how can we shoot if you're there?" Ronald was stunned.

"I have to take him to the hospital. The assistant director will go with me. You and Dean, hurry up with the magic light and shoot these shots according to your storyboard. Then call the boss, and he will make the arrangements." Joe looked at the director of photography next to him, "Dean, is this okay?"

The director of photography nodded and made an OK gesture. The assistant director got in the car, and the Chevrolet van turned around and drove towards the school gate.

Ronald shouted towards the van, "Wait, which hospital are you going to?"

"Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills..." Joe's voice floated over.

Ronald hadn't reacted to this magical operation yet. Jim patted Ronnie on the shoulder and said, "Hey, you heard it, Joe Dante trusts your storyboard. I told you, your drawing is so detailed, just find someone to shoot according to your storyboard."

Ronald looked at Jim and couldn't tell him the truth.

He picked up the bullhorn and started yelling to the extras: "Everyone, let's continue shooting. Reset, all groups, we'll do it again right away."

Then he ran behind the camera and asked the director of photography, "Mr. Cundey, how long can this light last?"

"You can take one more shot before sunrise. After sunrise, you can probably take two more shots."

He turned around and said to Jim, "Hurry, I want 10-1, you watch first." Then he ran quickly into the teaching building.

On the set, 10-1 was the code for going to the bathroom. Ronald rushed into the bathroom, looked in the mirror, turned on the faucet, and splashed his face with cold water.

"Ronald, you can do it!"

"This is an opportunity, you can seize it."

"As long as the filming is done, the boss, Mr. Roger Corman, will add your name to the subtitles."

Ronald gave a few self-suggestions, wiped his face with his hands, with water droplets still on his eyebrows and beard, and ran out of the teaching building.

All the extras have returned to their positions. Dey Young, who plays the good girl, stands in front of the Science Club's welcome stage. The actors of the rugby team and the freshmen have also taken their positions.

Ronald walked up to Dey Young and smiled. "Dey, we need another take to make sure we have enough film for editing. How do you think you performed?"

Dey Young, wearing a pair of large black-framed glasses, didn't know how to answer this question. "Well, I think the protagonist Kate is a good student. When she encounters the bullying of the freshmen on the football team, she will be a little overwhelmed, so I mainly play this emotion."

"Very good, you did a great job. Besides, Kate is different from the girls on the cheerleading team. She doesn't socialize with the football stars, so I think maybe she would step back and stay away from these muscle guys. What do you think?"

"Wow, I didn't know you knew how to act, Ronnie. You're right."

"No, I was on a sports team in high school, and I wanted to date a top student like Kate, but they all avoided me."

"Hahaha..."

Ronald gave Dey Young some guidance based on the finished film he dreamed of.

Seeing Dey Young relax, Ronnie walked back and asked the director of photography: "Mr. Cundey, what do you think? Can we start?"

"No problem, you give the order."

"Everyone, pay attention. We are about to start filming."

Jenny started to play the board again, "127 plays, first shot, second take..."

Ronald picked up the megaphone: "Recording... Camera..."

"Action!"

Maybe it was because of the new acting style, or maybe the extras were more skilled after the last performance. Ronald felt that this take was better than Allan's. He looked at the director of photography, Dean Condie, and asked, "How's the effect?"

"Very good, this one is passable."

"Jim, Mr. Cundey says it's OK. This and the last are both printed."

"Okay, no problem."

After Ronald was promoted to interim director, Jim took over the job of first assistant director. Mark the word "print" at the end of two lines in the shooting log.

The film used for shooting is a negative film. After it is developed, it needs to be reprinted into a positive film before it can be viewed. In order to save costs, the director will generally indicate which shots should be kept and which should be discarded.

The crew started working again.
