"How am I supposed to know?" Alex asked David.
Some of the students got killed from the attack, he somehow managed to survive, so what exactly did David mean?
"Are tou indirectly saying I have a hand in their deaths?" He asked him.
"That is not what I mean to say," David said firmly. "But you can't expect me to let it slide, do you?"
"I dont care," Alex replied, causing David to become angry. "I am only alive because it's a miracle, I don't know what else you want me to say."
Alex had to hide the fact that he's aware that his father was among the villains that had attacked the students. Besides, there was nothing else that happened during that period.
He remembered he was under attack by a monster but David came to save him, and that was all. He remembered nothing else.
"You—" David clenched his fists angrily. If not for the fact that the school had strictly warned them to hide the truth from Alex, he would have continued. "Fine," he mumbled and left the room.
After he had left, Alex sighed and rested his back on the pillow. His mind wandered to what happened that day during the test but aside being saved by David, there was nothing else.
Nothing wanting to dwell on that, he closed his eyes to sleep but then, the image of his father's sad face kept appearing before him, making him uncomfortable and unable to sleep.
------
At the same time, Peter returned home that day after he had left Alex's side and getting to his doorstep, he overheard some conversations and during the conversation, he heard Alex's father's name being mentioned.
He didn't go straight to open the door and stood by the corner.
"Sir, the mission has been completed, his mother has been silenced as well."
Hearing this, Peter gasped but quickly covered his mouth so that he won't attract their attention.
"Where is her body now?" A deep make voice asked. The voice belonged to Peter's father.
"It's been buried at the cemetery," the other voice belonging to a messenger replied.
"What about the Hero Steven's body?" Peter's father asked.
"It's been burnt," the messenger replied.
"Good!" Peter's father exclaimed. "Now, I won't have to be worried about anyone taking my position."
"I will take my leave now," the messenger said.
"I want you to keep your eyes on my son and that kid. If possible, find some time to finish the kid, I wouldn't want problems in the future," Peter's father said.
"I will sir," the messenger said and turned to leave.
Hearing the approaching footsteps, Peter quickly hid in a corner and when the messenger came out of the house, he peeked and saw the person.
"Master Martin?" He mumbled, utterly shocked.
Master Martin was one of their teachers at the academy, in fact, he was their homeroom teacher.
To think that the person meant to be protecting them also has a hand in Alex's anguish... He covered his mouth, unable to believe just what he had heard.
After the teacher had left, Peter didn't enter the house again, instead, he walked away. There was no need going back to the house because the place he calls home no longer felt like that again, it suddenly feels like a strange place to him.
"Hey, Pete!" Somone called and when Peter looked up, he saw one of his friends.
"Clinton?" He said, surprised to see the boy in their area. "What brings you?" He asked him.
"I'll explain later but for now, let's go hangout," Clinton replied and dragged bis friend away.
Soon, they arrived at a bar.
Peter gazed at Clinton, unsure if the boy knew what he was doing.
"We are just sixteen a d seventeen, not supposed to be here!" He said to Clinton.
"I know you are scared, don't worry, no one's gonna find out," Clinton assured him. Without giving him a chance to protest, Martin grabbed him and dragged him inside the bar.
After settling down, Clinton went ahead to order something.
Peter was still having double thoughts about what they were doing. He feared that they might end up getting caught and then punished.
Seeing Peter's uneasiness, Clinton chuckled. Peter has always been a respecter of rules, always abiding by the rules and making sure things work out smoothly but this time, he wanted to spoil him.
"Hey, don't worry," he assured Peter. "The owner of the bar is my long-term friend so he won't sell us out."
Clinton might be right but still... Peter didn't want anything to go wrong. Besides being scared of getting caught, he also wanted to return to the academy as fast as possible.
"Tell me, why are you in my area?" He asked Clinton, wanting to rush their meeting.
"Well, I wanted to see your father," Clinton replied and Peter was taken aback.
He narrowed his eyes, his eyes scanning for any hidden threats from Clinton. "What for?" He asked him.
"I look up to your father a lot and I want to be just like him."
Peter was about to gulp down his drink but the moment he heard what Clinton said, he unintentionally spewed everything out, pouring some of the content on the boy's face.
"The heck, Pete!" Clinton grunted.
"I'm sorry," Peter apologized immediately and took out his handkerchief. "I didn't mean to," he said and began to wipe the boy's face.
"It's fine," Clinton said with a sigh. "I guess today's meeting is canceled."
"You can come around some days after or even tomorrow," Peter said.
"Yeah, I'll do just that," Clinton said and then Peter stood up.
"Honestly, man," Peter said. "If you look up to my father this much, I hope you don't end up being disappointed in him some day."
Clinton, not understanding what Peter meant thought that the boy was merely discouraging him.
"Just you watch! I am going to become the next Hero Gustavo!" He yelled as Peter's back was beginning to fade from his eyesight.
On Peter's way back to the heroes academy, his mind wandered back to what he had heard earlier, up till now, he still could not believe that his father was also part of the plan to destroy Alex's family.
He could not understand why, what Hero Steven had done to deserve a bad ending. Even though he was guilty somehow, what offense did Alex and his mother commit to also warrant their eliminatiy. It just didn't make any sense no matter how he put it.
He wished he could confront his father but the moment he does, things might take a drastic turn and become very bad.
'For now, I will stay around Alex. Perhaps they won't do anything to him because of me.'
It pained him so much that his friend was being treated this way. They want to end him even when they know that he isn't much of a threat to them but why?!
