Chapter 6 - A queen's first move

"I beg your pardon, Mr Moons" Blair retorted, her eyes cold and distant. Ethan scoffed loudly. He did not care what methods she had used to gain her way in, but he wasn't about letting her get away with it.

"Oh come on Blair. We all know what you are. For the past six years, there has been no news of you. To say… I am surprised indeed. I had expected you to show up with an elderly husband, but well, climbing your way into the beds of politicians can only afford you a fancy dress and not dignity," Blair found it ridiculous.

"If my memory serves me well, you did climb to the top on a socialite's bed, so who are you to judge others?" Ethan instantly flushed red. The Blair he remembered would try to run, always avoiding confrontations and would dare not speak to him in such a tone, but it was too late to back down now. Crowd was gathering and he was not the type to lose face before a lowlife woman.

"Take your begging children and leave, your filth is infectious" Blair turned to her children who looked tired. Alec was all for fun, but too much of it was exhausting, and she could tell from the looks on his face. She gently scoops him into her arm like a teddy bear and holds Alex by the hand. Whatever this was.. Was not worth her time, but Ethan reached out to pull her backwards, only to suffer the consequences of his actions. She dogged to the side and had him fall face flat.

Blair's voice dropped low as she leaned in closer, locking eyes with Ethan, "Filth is infectious but certainly not mine," cameras clicked in matters of seconds, while Ethan struggled with a bleeding nose. "You've made little money and married some old man and you think you've made… just you wait, we all have skeletons in our cupboards" he sneered.

Blair smiled, "at least mine doesnt crawl out when I least expect it," and with that she was gone like the wind.

The party was in full swing, with children playing and parents chatting. Finally the time they had all been waiting for had arrived. The hall was thick with anticipation and slow music hummed in the background. The reveal of the birthday celebrants and their parents. All lights in the hall dimmed, and from the top of the stairs, the family of four.

dressed in Persian blue suits, Alex and Alec held on to their parents, Kabir was adorned in a black suit while Blair walked by his side shimmering in a pearl white high end slit white gown. They looked like the perfect couple.

From a distance, her face was not very visible, the cameras clicked, but the presence of the woman by Kabir Marge's side was undeniable. She was a figure that commanded attention. He was a man of immense power and dominance, and the woman by his side had built an identity envied by all. She stood at the top with her husband all proud and daring. The boys smiled, looking the same, one could tell their smiles differed. Alex's eyes were like an eagle's navigating the crowd, while Alec was a fox. sly and cunning.

"Happy birthday to you.. Happy birthday to you.." they sang as the couple stood by letting their sons enjoy the moment. Sofia, who stood at the back with her husband, desperately wanted to make her way to the front, but Ethan's look was enough to have her flirtatious desires flush out.

The cake cutting was swift, Kabir Marge stepped forward with a mic. "Today is a good day, not only was I blessed as a father on this day but it was a double blessing. Six years ago I met my wife, a strong, passionate woman with a big heart. Today I stand here not only as Karbir Marge but as a husband and a father of two, all thanks to my wife. Mrs Blair Marge."

The hall erupted with applause as screens lit up on the walls with pictures of the Marge family. There was a mixture of happiness, surprise, then anger. Sofia staggered behind, her body suddenly feeling heavy for her legs to carry while her husband stared, panic sludge within him.

"Blair is Mrs Marge?" he answered, pinching himself, but the more he did, the harder reality hit back at him. Ethan watched in disbelief as the media swarmed around Blair trying to capture her every smile and posture. The smile on Kabir's Marge face was the nail on the head.

The woman the world was so eager to meet was the same woman he had longed to do business with, turned out to be his ex-wife. The same person he had thrown out in the heart of a cold rainy night with nothing. He had cheated on her, disgraced her, leaving her penniless, not even what was rightfully hers. This was a sick joke but too bad it was happening to him.

In the glamour of Mrs. Marge, trying to get her attention, Ethan did not stand back, one of the top searches was his earlier encounter with her. It was hitting every top chat and soon he began getting calls. The comments were nasty and everyone demanded an apology. At the front he pushed his way.

"Mrs Marge," he walked up to Blair who was having a little chat with other socialites. The young ladies excused themselves.

"Congratulations, you caught a big fish," he extended a hand, but Blair scoffed. "Is there something Mr. Moons would like to say.. For I do not have all day" her words cut sharper than a blade.

"You used to have all day for me. You would wait for me, cook for me, help me with work even when you were so tired. What happened?" he demanded and she smiled tightly.

"Sofia happened… The divorce on that rainy night happened, leaving me penniless. Mr Moons, I advise you to move on," Blair attempted walking past him, but Ethan grabbed her hand, which she instantly yanked from his grip.

"You don't get the right to touch me," her words are slow and deliberate. From a distance, Kabir Marge watched, his eagle eyes dangerously analyzing the situation. It's been a very long time and now he is ready. He matched forward, his steps firm and steady. "Baby," his hoarse yet charming voice warmed up her body as his hands wrapped around her possessively.

"You look… Disturbed," he raised an eyebrow at Ethan, who could feel the earth beneath him shift. "Oh yeah, meet my ex," she announced and the little crowd around them gasped.

"Nice to meet you," the air was thick with tension, as they shook hands, but it was no peace but war. Ethan smiled tightly, his hands were crushed, there was nothing nice about this meeting.

As he came home that night, Edward could feel his world crumbling. Just like six years ago, the rain poured a weakness to his fate. One after the other, he got calls from shareholders, the company was going down within minutes, the stock market was not in their favor, and the value of their goods was decreasing as the clock ticked away. "beg her" they all said, but how could he… Ethan Moons never crawls.
