Chapter 19 - Your mother is the mistress

"Enough, Henry!"

It was one thing that Henry was being disrespectful towards Lucas but now he was even disrespecting his mother; it didn't sit all that well with Benjamin. He looked at his son and said, "It's me you are angry at. If you want to lose your temper on someone, then you might as well take it out on me."

Henry had become more stubborn and rebellious since the day he lost his memories; he was just like his sixteen-year-old teenage self. Thus, the second his father asked him to stop speaking, he felt even more resentful.

"Well, you are indeed the sinner of our family, dad." Henry sneered coldly as he slid his gaze at Lucas. "But you can make it up to me and mom by sending this man away. An illegitimate son trying to fight over the rights of inheritance? Its a bloody joke."

Mia sucked in a breath when she heard his harsh words. She wondered if Lucas was going to lose his calm but when Mia raised her head and looked at the man, she noticed him smiling. He was looking at Henry with the same gaze with which one would look at a harmless rabbit.

"Are you sure that the word illegitimate son is applicable to me?" Lucas asked, his voice silky smooth without a trace of anger. With his lips slightly curved in a cool smirk and his expression neutral, he remarked, "I am older than you by two years. As far as I can understand, the one who should be chained with the title of mistress is someone else."

Allegra's expression twisted and became hideous as she looked at the man in front of her with flames raging in her eyes.

If she could, she would have thrown a diatribe of curses at Lucas, but unfortunately she grew up as a refined socialite. She couldn't bring a single coarse and vulgar curse to her lips.

Henry was stunned. Ever since he was a child, no one had disrespected him in such a way. For a good few seconds he was left stewing but then his mouth twisted in an angry sneer and he snarled, "You dare call my mother a mistress? Do I need to remind you who was the one who walked down the aisle and married my father through all the legal formalities?"

Lucas glanced at Henry. Though it seemed like he was looking at his half-brother, he was actually looking at the woman who was trying to merge herself with the pillar next to her.

Her expression was mortified and she was staring at the floor as if she wished to become one with it. Lucas's lips curled up in a smile as he started fiddling with the ring that was in the shape of a snake. He twirled it around on his small finger two times before remarking,

"I never called your mother a mistress. What's wrong? Are you that eager to put the hat on your mother's head? Now, now, that's not nice."

Nose scrunched up, Henry made a threatening move but was stopped by Jamie, who shook her head. She glanced at Lucas and then turned to look at Henry; even though she didn't wish to compare the two men, she knew that Henry couldn't beat Lucas.

There was something really weirdly dangerous about Lucas. Something she couldn't pinpoint.

Henry glanced at Jamie and felt humiliated when he saw that his beloved woman had stopped him from punching the shit out of Lucas. Did she think that he was so weak that he couldn't deal with this man?

While Henry was focused on Jamie, Lucas turned and his eyes latched onto Mia's. Those hot and brooding eyes were far too piercing; it was as if he could see right through her. Mia tried to ignore that gaze.

She stood next to the pillar while trying to calm her thudding heart but there was no point in even trying. What made things worse was the fact that Lucas looked at her twice with amusement twinkling in his eyes, as if he wanted the entire Holman family to know that something happened between the two of them.

To avoid making herself the odd one out, Mia turned to look at Henry and Jamie. And to her extreme satisfaction, she saw Henry looking twice as ashamed as he did when Lucas called Mrs. Holman the mistress in the relationship.

She knew how much Henry liked to act as a macho man in a relationship. Now that Jamie had stopped him, it was a direct blow to his masculinity. Of course he was not happy.

If not for the situation being delicate, she would have certainly laughed out loud.

A muscle was twitching in Henry's jaw as he turned to look at his parents. He wanted to say something but he dared not when his mother shook her head in response. She elegantly took a step forward and pulled Henry back with her.

Allegra then turned to look at Lucas and questioned, "How have you been, Lucas? I see that your mother has paid quite a little attention to you."

"Not as little as you, Mrs. Holman," remarked Lucas silkily. His words were like barbed wire as he spoke, "At least she taught me how to stand on my own two feet rather than rely on a woman and then abandon her."

These words brought nothing but humiliation to Henry and Allegra.

Henry's face was as colourful as a painter's palette. He looked at the man in front of him, livid with rage, before parting his lips and speaking in a dissatisfied voice, "What nonsense! What do you even know about me? Dad, did you bring this man only to insult me?"

"Enough!" Benjamin snapped. His voice cracked like a whip as he looked at his family with dissatisfaction. He knew that his son and wife would have something to say about this matter but he never thought that they would be this noisy.

They have completely let go of their etiquette and manners. Which family didn't have a few troubles? But they all suppressed it and hid these dirty matters, acting as a unit.

But his wife and son? They were yelling and screaming as if they were afraid that the pedestrians on the street wouldn't hear about their family's scandal.
