Lucas raised his hand and placed his forefingers in his ears when he heard the woman's voice rising exponentially. His eyes closed just for a fraction of a second.
"Well, that's some really hardcore reaction," he remarked with a raise of his brows. "Why are you acting like it's the end of the world? It's not like your father and I have some kind of bloody feud which would only be resolved after one of us dies."
Keenly aware of the fact that the man was teasing her, Mia pushed the strands of her hair. She licked her lips and said, "And you mean to say that it's not? Why would you even meet with my father when I told you that he is not in any condition to withstand any more shock, Mister Lucas?"
"And what was I supposed to do?" Lucas asked with a slight tilt of his head. "Was I supposed to let your father fret over his daughter, who suddenly went missing?"
