(The real story started here)
<12 years later, and he was 12>
"Holy crap! What's going on??" Garret muttered, flinching from the dream as the faint memories when he had been infant, flooded his mind while he slept. His heart pounded, breaking the silence of the room, while the stillness of the air softly crept around him.
Then, he gradually reached out his hand to pick up his mobile phone, which had overturned on the wooden headboard.
Once his hand grasped the phone, he flipped it over and pressed the power button, his brow furrowing under the overwhelming wave of drowsiness.
The phone powered on, and the lock screen appeared.
There was the spinning fish video, circling endlessly with no purpose in sight.
The brainrot music played, sounding as though the musicians behind it were no older than six.
Indeed, Garret had far too much free time on his hands and, unable to find anything better to do, had wasted it on such a trivial thing—setting his wallpaper to a mind-numbing video of fish. Even crazier, Garret genuinely believed this brainrot nonsense was the best video on the internet, and he wasn't joking.
As the screen flickered, its glow on his face, making his eyes squint instinctively, as he tried to shield himself from the brightness.
After the few moment, the security process began, pulling Garret back to reality.
The phone's owner detection here was different, it's not the same as the usual method like fingerprint or password & biometric.
But the phone would automatically scanning your face, made sure that current person who used its, fit the owner face.
Afterward, the phone screen flickered momentarily before recognizing Garret's face and unlocking rapidly.
His gaze fixed on the time, noticing it was 05:55. "The heck! Why do I have to wake up at this time?"
Garret's voice laced with frustration as his hand slapped his forehead harshly, his breath shallow and quick.
At first, he wanted to go back to sleep, but as the realization struck him, he decided to get up and walk around.
As he walked, the sound of his footsteps reverberated across the floor, accompanied by the dullness that faintly swallowed his mind, piece by piece.
Then, he noticed the light switch on the wall nearby. Garret walked toward it, his fingers reaching out for the switch.
"As the light turned off, the bedroom was fully revealed. Externally, his room was not as luxurious as those of other nobles.
Its size wasn't vast like a palace, but it wasn't cramped like a rat's nest either.
The bed was absolutely nothing extravagant, not made of rare wood or fine cotton, but it was not so bad to provide him with the rest he needed.
His gaze swept over the room, taking in the familiar pieces of furniture.
There was a super computer, likely intended for his experiments or coding, near the heater meant to warm the room—though it had long since stopped working.
Suddenly, his eyes caught of the flower lying on the computer table, its blue petals sharp and shining brightly, shaped like a diamond cut.
As he counted, he noticed the flower had approximately 10 petals, each glowing and beautiful.
His gaze fixed on the flower, reminding him of something, as though it were assembling together the forgotten pieces of the boy's childhood.
And then, a storm of memories overwhelmed his mind, accompanied by scenes of sadness. The memory... filled with the bitterness of losing. The realization that shattered him completely, mirroring his emotions.
The day everything turned into hell even he had done nothing wrong.
The scenes that would haunt him, FOREVER.
"Sighh! holy—bugging day!" Garret muttered softly, with the rose of torment blooming in his thought.
The Good old days, 4 years ago, when Garret was only 8 years old:
Garret, the optimistic and cheerful boy, walked slowly back home, with a smile on his face.
As he strolled, he admired the beauty of the scenery along the path. Turning left, he found a garden-filled field, abundant with a variety of plants.
Their lush green stretched seemingly endless.
His thoughts wandered as he soaked in the soothing sounds of mother nature. Suddenly, a mockingbird perched on an apple tree, singing to attract its mate. Garret paused, his ears catching the lilting melody. Its sweet, clear song relaxed him, easing the exhaustion from his long day at school.
"Wow, even the bird has a girlfriend, but what about you and me? Alone like this?" Garret chuckled to himself, his voice full of playful joy.
Turning right, he noticed a diamond-like flower blooming on the ground. A faint curiosity tugged at him, and he decided to pick it.
"Fantastic! If I give this to my parents, they'll absolutely love it!"
Garret exclaimed, a magnificent smile spreading across his face as the fragrance filled his nose, bringing with it a sense of joy.
Yet, amidst his happiness, an inevitable fate loomed ominously, its shadow creeping closer and closer, while he couldn't notice it.
After a long moment of strolling, Garret finally approached his home, his heart pounding faintly inside his chest, the weigh of anticipation in his thought making his breath grow shallower and his hand trembled as he wondered what his parents' reaction would be.
However, all he could see was emptiness.
A wave of wonder struck his mind, making him question where everyone had gone.
The stillness in the air deepened his curiosity, accompanied by an unusual silence that seemed to envelop the home, as if everything had been extinguished.
"Dad! Mom! Lylia! I have something I want you to check out!" Garret shouted loudly, thinking they might be busy with something important.
No response. It seemed as though his words had vanished with the air.
"Ayo, who sent me a message?" Garret muttered, his brow furrowing as his phone vibrated in his pocket, eager for the answer, as his hand shot out, his fingers twitching with curiosity as he grabbed the mobile phone.
Afterwards, Garret quickly unlocked his phone.
The screen flickered momentarily, briefly reflecting his face.
His gaze fixed on the notification in the corner of the screen.
Garret paused for a moment, then pressed his finger on it.
It was Lylia who had sent him the message, marked as urgent. Each paragraph conveyed sorrow and stress, tightened the tension in his chest.
His heart pounded helplessly, while his breath slowly shortened and his hands faintly trembled.
"Dear Garret , my based Lil bro
It's hard to tell you this, but I have to tell you bad news. While you've been at the boarding school all this time, our parents passed away in an accident. Furthermore, I've been called to serve as a Cosmic Ranger. To be honest, I wish I could spend more time with you, but I can't resist the will of the universe. I have to save the cosmos from the Red Authority (I'm not sure if you know who they are).
I'm sorry for bringing you such bad news.
P.S. I bought you a cube. Be strong.
Love, lylia spencer"
After reading the bad news, it seemed as if everything had turned meaningless—even his own life. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, but his eyes were filled with emptiness, and his limbs felt fragile. Slowly, his phone slipped from his grasp and clattered to the floor.
Though it wasn't broken and remained in good condition, his mind was completely shattered.
"Good boy! Garret."
"Garret! You are my beloved son."
"Garret! You are my pride, Lil bro."
"I love you, Garret!"
The winds of admiration swept through his thoughts, intensifying his suffering, making his eyes overflowed with sorrow. Once, his life had been filled with love and support. Once, he had known joy. But now, it was all over.
