"No—!" Regina screamed, her voice raw with fear. The scene inside the metal shack flashed back in her mind like a waking nightmare. She trembled like a rabbit caught in a predator's gaze, her body reacting before her mind could. She flailed her arms in panic, her breath ragged and shallow.
The IV needle, still embedded in her hand, was yanked out by her frantic movements. Pain should have flared as the needle ripped free, leaving her skin swelling in an ugly bruise. But at that moment, she felt nothing. There was only fear—overwhelming, suffocating fear.
Her first instinct was to clutch at her torn clothes, desperate to shield herself from his gaze.
